Why are people acting like you have to join facebook to do this when on page 2 Chris Priestly clarified that saying you didnt need it.

I can only assume that people who are way too cool for facebook are also way too cool to read more than 1 post in a thread.

Am I right to assume those who had already subscride to the news letter
will get an auto d/l  of the in game item  after ithe installation and registration
of DA2 instead of receiving a code via EMail?

This summer we are giving fans a chance at a limited number of codes for an Epic In-Game Weapon for Dragon Age 2. You can only enter here (http://dragonage.bioware.com/da2/) by hitting the “Like” button on the page  and then sign-up for the Dragon Age 2 newsletter. If you have already done this then consider yourself entered! Codes will be delivered via email in September.

These codes are only available with newsletter signup. If you are at Comic Con, sign up for the newsletter and you'll get a code. Not in San Diego? never fear! ANYONE who signs up for the newsletter from now until 7PM PST Sunday July 25 will get a code too.

"But I already signed up for the nesletter!" Never fear! We love our fans and will send the codes to anyone who already has the newsletter signed up.

Why, cuz we want everone to get the code for the in-game weapon.

Happy Comic-Con. Image IPB

Or you could have put the item in game anyway if you love us so much. Nevertheless..I have subscribed to the DAII page and expect my code soon.

Do you get a confirmation email when you sign up? I never got one. A few people have asked this question, but no answer so far it seems.

Oh great, more DLC codes for in-game items. Does this mean that an unmodded no DLC version of Dragon Age 2 is going to be as lacking in item variety as DA:O was?

Maybe I'm just dumb/blind, but I don't see any option to subscribe to the newsletter.

Apparantly it doesn't show on some browsers, try another browser.

It's awesome that I get an in-game item, but honestly I'm just happy for the reminder to sign up for the newsletter.

I don't see why I would want to broadcast to everyone I know that I like Dragon Age. If they need to know that, they already do.
I like privacy.

There is something with my generation about wanting to display everything about you, constantly. I do not understand this desire for a lack of boundaries. I do not always want to be connected. There is a lot to be said for quiet time away from everyone to just contemplate. But there is some kind of drive in the opposite direction.

Well, everyone is different--like you and Sylvius (I'm assuming), I tend to be a private person.  However, to be fair, I have been told that even if you have a Facebook account, you don't have to make it very public, and you don't have to use it like a personal blog, either.

Not at all. You can be highly selective. But people will find you. There are particular reasons why I had to open a facebook account, and there are people who can use it to contact you, even with scant information just by connecting two or three pieces off the internet.

I highly doubt that someone will post a link of a dazip file when the game released.
Just saying...nothing personal

Thanks for sharing your experience with me (I've never had a FB account, myself).

Thanks for the update - much appreciated :)

Side note on avatar & sig - looks like Duncan has no love for a
Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE, in 1995)
and Disney Legends (in 2006)

Correct. You don't need Facebook.

You guys realize it may not show up on your usual browser because you're already signed in to EA and most likely have already signed up for the newsletter and don't remember, right?

...Right?

EDIT:  Maybe I should just make a facebook account to sign up for all the free crap game publishers/developers are offering.

Real pain in the butt.

Ah yes, and here we see some more of this generation's rather strange, over-inflated sense of entitlement. Bioware want a little bit of free promotion and more interest in their upcoming release, and in return offer you some shiny fluff. They don't owe you anything, no one owes you anything, and this is, to all intents and purposes, free.

You don't NEED said fluff, and you don't even need to go the facebook route. So if it butthurts you that much, just navigate away instead of sobbing into your keyboard about how facebook was created for bloggers who are no way near as cool as you, and how they should just give you free stuff for nothing in return. Because you're worth it! ;)

Regardless, cheers bioware, large amounts of anticipation for DA2!
