Can't decide on what kind of character to make.

I have had nwn2 for quite a few years now and I have not been able to get past the second act. Seems silly I know but the truth is I can't decide on a character to make. I go through with one and something happens, maybe I offend and NPC or wonder what would happen if I'm evil and just restart. So I pretty much had to read what happens but that still doesn't help me decide so I have finally decide to ask for some advice on making a proper character.

1. What would be a good character to play the hero of west harbor with? This is probably the biggest hang up, I can't decide on how to make a proper hero for the original campaign and MOTB that would leave a satisfied feeling of a job well done. I personally don't mind the TYPE of character, but one that could fit in with the backstory.

2. Would a drow surface party be reasonable in SoZ? I don't really care for the whole "good drow" bit but a inconspicuous evil band of surface drow looking to make a living away from the underdark does strike my fancy. Or would it be more fitting to just have one drow wizard/assassin or none at all?

Anyways just looking for some insight about this.

It's pretty easy to end up lawful good in both the OC and MotB. You get a complete party with the OC so you can play any class. You're separated only once from your party in the OC.

MotB is said to be difficult for arcane casters and you get one from the start to baby sit all the way through. So I would take something a good melee or ranged attacker with a good AC.

Both modules have lots of magic loot lying around. But, it never hurts to have buffs of your own. This why I tend to play a cleric. I like this one: http://nwn2db.com/bu...19154&version=1

I have others there.

I also used a Cleric going through the OC and pretty much nothing stood in my way. I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Cleric.

Bard is a lot of fun, due to the many skills one gets. Not to mention, one gets Perform + all dialogue skills save Intimidate, which makes for a very interesting trial at the beginning of Chapter II.

It sounds to me like you have the same problem as me. The character itself is not material but you can't play it if you can't connect with it. That's very hard in RPG on the PC I find.

If that is the case I suggest the following.

1. For the OC your background is less material as you are adopted and can be whatever you like. The area round the mere is primarily Human and I believe your mother is human. So you need to be human or half human - half elf might work given the daegun connection but they are just soooo ugly, and that is an important aspect of connecting with the character for me.

If you are struggling don't try to roleplay' try to be you, that makes deciding what to say less of a thought process, that way you can fall into the mod easier. For the same reason don't handicap your character with a low stat. Keep them average, you can powerbuild but you don't need to, you will get through just fine on a set of balanced stats that don't leave you feeling your character it deficient in some way you are not happy with. 16 for your main stat at the start has worked fine for me, others may disagree; you do get the chance to improve it.

On that note don't skimp on intelligence. Have at least 13 whatever your class. There are a few int related rsponses you should not limit yourself from. Also int = skill points and your development is easier and more flexible when you have it. If your choices are not limited then you will have more fun with the character. (I take 14 every time).

Also I always give myself 14 Cha, That seems to make people a lot nicer though that may just be perception. I am ugly enough in the real world Posted Image, I cannot play a character who has low Charisma in the game.

I have not found any class to be weak, I have finished the OC with a fighter and a sorc, the latter was more fun, but the fighter/weapon specialist (crit build) rocked.

Lastly; plan your specialist class if you want to go with one. You can't be a weapons master without enough Dex to get Dodge for instance (13 I think). You don't want to discover this later in the mod. Each time you replay the first hour or two the shine fades some more, till finally, bored, you move onto other things. Equally the chance to connect with the character diminishes each time you have to play hunt the lizardman in the swamp. It becomes mechanical and, for me, that is the death toll for a mod, at least for a while.

2. For SOZ all the rules apply but you need your own back story and it's much harder when you have to mentally deal with the backstory of four others (unless you take npc's). The only one that worked for me was that my lead character (a fighter) was a caravan guard who starts the adventure guarding for a merchant on thier way to Samarach. I. as the player have aspirations to have my own trading company and lo and behold, here, out of adversity is my chance.

I hope my ramblings helped. I restarted the OC many times before I got my first PC through. Usually close to the Neeshka meet.

Good luck,

PJ
