Technically, Jack has a dead lover, too... LOL, we could go on all night about tragic deaths. Can you believe it has been this overplayed that we have so much material? I have had so much fun tonight hanging with you folks that I thought it was even time for a signature overhaul. Don't you hate it when you love so many characters that you can't stick with one sig for very long?

I had forgotten about that.  I think they do need to do this with the female LI.  Maybe she came home to find her  family murdered (husband with arrows as he was going to the well, one child in bed asleep, one in the kitchen where she was working on her dad's weapons and there are at least 2 dead in with her)
And then she tracked them down and joins your group to continue her search.  Your male character (I always have one or two) has to bring this out and work through her anger, sorrow and guilt of starting to care.

Over a 10 year period they have to talk about something.

Nah, I wasn't mad or anything, I'm glad you pointed her out. I wouldn't force a dead spouse upon anyone, despite bitter feelings (tell me again, Carth, exactly how much do I remind you of your wife? What about you, Sky? Thane?).

I've been trying ti figure out why I don't mind the Carth, Thane characters and maybe it's because quite a few of the books and movies I like the most have the father/child aspect in them.

Jane Eyre;  Lewis L'Amour wrote westerns (and other stuff)  Some of his books had the father/child thing going, but he always had very good female characters who were capable of taking care of themselves or if outnumbered taking some out with her before she died.
River of No Return with Robert Mitchum; The Rifleman. Cammando and even Independence Day, I liked both Will Smith's character though the child was his girlfriends and Bill Pullman's character.
There is just something about them I like.  :)  But I don't care what the LI background is as long as it's a good, well rounded one that gives him/her a feeling of completeness.

Maybe now would be a good time to admit that I don't even like playing evil PCs. Not ever, really. :) That's not to say evil characters are always utterly unattractive in every single way, but I usually don't play characters who would be interested in romancing such people.

And as I mentioned before, I would think romancing someone like Bishop would probably be a waste of time, if not a terrible mistake (if you could reform him, he'd probably be more of a softie than actually was in the game).

I have never been able to go totally evil.  I' don't usually make it all the way to the saint side either, but I have a better chance at this than going dark.  I always play what makes me feel good and that's helping people and romancing the boy scout.  B)

My son-in-law keeps trying to talk me into going to the dark side at least once, but I just feel bad if I don't think they deserve it.  I have no problem doing the rude responses if the character deserves it.

Mmmmm, just going to pop in and say no Bishop ever, please. I agree with Riona -- it's a one-way ticket to an unhealthy, borderline abusive relationship. He is a sexist creep. Why couldn't I kick him out of my party? My neutral good bard was not charmed by his dismissive and demeaning attitude, not to mention his immaturity.

I don't know what I'd want for DA2. I'm sure I'll like whoever the writers dream up, really, so long as it isn't Bishop. Bio's been pretty good so far. I liked Valen and that he challenged the PC, but respected her at the same time. Also, he was fun to tease. I also liked Kaiden a lot. His romance seemed much more understated than other Bio romances, but I thought it felt deep. I really liked the not-therapy aspect of it, and Kaiden's dry humor. It felt like mature, down-to-Earth people in a mature, down-to-Earth relationship... at least, the way I played my Shep.

Alright, I've talked enough about this. Time for sleep.

See, I wouldn't romance Bishop, but I have no problem with him being an option, as long as they give us two or let us influence their personality.

edit - I also prefer the Kaiden type and had fun with Valen.
Good night.  I just got up a couple of hours ago.  :)

I still think Daveth is the ideal lover or a romance option that I would love to see in Dragon Age II. His character trait is suave, debonair and he is truly a manly type of a guy; that he is dependable and he is in fact a knight based on his response about "sacrificing anything to end the blight". Chivalry is alive in Daveth ... look for my fan-fiction about this delicious dude... coming soon.
His Australian accent is to die for, lol. Posted Image

P.S. Alistair has his moments, but so does Stern (now that is something to consider).

My problem with the male options for romances is they are too tame.  I want a character who is aggressive about going after what he wants.  I want a LI option to ask me for a night of passion every so often when I talk to him.  I am not talking about removing the romantic elements, but back me up ladies... How many times have you initiated versus him?  Three out of ten?

Zev was a great one for this.  He pushes and pushes.  Hints and persuades.  Then once the deed is done it's never again unless you ask.  Men do not act that way, or at least every man I 've ever known.  That is how a guy acts who wanted to score and then they are ready to move on.

When I played as a male character Morrigan would invite you herself  "I'm cold" and Leliana encouraged an invite always "Arn't you sweet and attentive.",  but Alistair always acted surprised.  For writers who had some of the best insight into what might appeal to women, boy did they get that wrong.  Mary Kirby where were you?

If the male LI is agressive enough to get out there and kill, then he is not going to act like my lapdog.  Trust me these female character's we play can hold their own and would look for an equal.  I expected when I hardened Alistair that he would start questioning my decisions, offer input, and let me know what he wanted.  It never happened and I was very surprised. Well these are woman who play characters that carry VERY sharp blades (that they know how to use well) or shoot fire/lighting out of their hands.  What do you think?
My mother is an OR nurse who loves to tell my father how she truly knows the quickest way to a man's heart.  He has never strayed.

So let me guess....you are suicidal?

Edited:  Only if you are a booty call, but then it is not cheating is it?

No thanks, I use my games to escape from reality, not to experience what I could easily find. ;)

(Though, over a 10 year period, that might make an interesting twist to one of the romances. Not consistent cheating, of course, but maybe a Ross/Rachel "We were on a BREAAAAAK" type event. You can choose whether or not to keep going with that romance, or to cut if off and find someone new. Hmmm...)

good point.   :)  Every time I hear this song it makes me laugh.
"But when you say a back rub means only a back rub then you swat my hand when I try.
Well now what can I say at the end of the day,"Honey, I'm still a guy."

It would be nice if the LI would initiate it part of the time and you still had the option also.

Would you like a LI male or female who cheats on you?

I don't care how many lovers the LI has had before he/she meets my character, buy my character had best be the last, or he will be looking for a new group to hang with.

Uh, no. Stereotype! Real women rarely get into cat fights. You're just suggesting this because you would like to see some video game mud wrestling.

I don't think I would like it even over  a 10 year period, unless the LI actually left the group for a few years and came back later and even then, it would depend on how the writers pulled it off.

If there was a way you could keep it from happening some choice you make at the time, it might work, but once the character cheats, I'm going to remember it and, if I'm deep enough into my character, I'll wonder if they will continue  to find reasons to cheat and will not be able to see the LI in the same way.   Past history pop up.  :)  Silly but there it is.

I'd very much like a templar. (I've mentioned this, but bear with me.) Someone very deeply set in his beliefs, but not the "force it upon you" sort. Unwavering (unlike darling Al, who folds like soggy bread if you give him his mother's locket), brave, loyal, and a bit older than our previous LIs. Someone with a personality like Ser Otto or Ser Bryant. Intimidating, but warm. If he had this voice, I wouldn't complain.

Did like his accent.  but I like all the guys with accents.  That was one of the great things about Alistair, that and his humor.  There was a character in KOTOR I talked to for minuets and wanted to invite him to join the crew, he had such a great Irish accent.  Then there is Lt Girard another accent I could listen to for a long time.  Voices are definitely important.  I do hope they have some good ones signed up.

I don't mind a bit of flirting, my characters flirt but that's the end of it and  I'm not fighting for any man.

I've never quite understood this idea.  If the guy I'm with wants to try out someone new then I don't want him. around.  That goes for a video character too.  Now if my LI is being threatening because they flirted or for some other reason, and it comes to a fight, I'll be happy to help if they need it or watch.

edit - and this is just for flirting with - you look nice in that - - no kissing, touching - inappropriate suggestions.
LI says something nice, person has been hit on all day and take it the wrong way.  Pulls a weapon and tries to kill them and you have to talk them down.

Actually it wouldn't work. so no.:)

Now now women doing that to men do happen rarely...How would you react to that?

Believe he cheated on you and was making excuses?Forgive him easily trusting him?
