eh what about zevran?or was he not written by him?

He wasn't really much of a bad boy (and I do seem to recall his character being handled mostly by another writer). He killed people and slept around a lot, but he lacked the "dangerous" element that all good bad boys need (do you see my use of oxymoron?). Probably because your first conversation with him is of him cowering at your feet and calling you a goddess.

You have a point. Despite being an assassin, Zevran didn't seem very dangerous. More like a puppy that tries to bite you... then you scratch his belly and you become bffs or he starts sleeping in your bed.

well he tried to assasinate you and failed...even hinted to a future attempt.

Meh. My Warden could take him, as she proved once before. In my opinion, "dangerous" would've been including a man like Loghain as an LI. Not really overt, I KEEL YOU danger, but... sneaky, potentially double-crossing danger. That's hot.

I'm not sure if I believe any of Bioware's writers are able to write such a character or if they just choose not to. As you say Zev despite being a assassin is feels safe from the first moment we talk to him and never does anything to challange that after.

While I hestitate to bring mods for games into this the NPC project for IWD2 has a NPC that submit to the player as well but still creeps me out. While I don't want Bioware to make something like Rizdaer it would be nice to see them create something different. That's why I wouldn't mind a Bishop. I don't think we ever see that though so I settle for a Gannayev myself. Posted Image

Except I'm more than sure Hawke can handle herself if she wishes to. That's the best part of having a bad boy--when you're his match.

And there's a difference between "bad boy" dangerous and "rapist" dangerous.

Well a little risk just makes life exciting. Besides I'm not silly enough to look for a real boyfriend like this. It's a game so I don't see the problem with it all. ^^

Yeah, I'll stick to either "politically dangerous" or "all bark and no bite," thanks.

I've already written this in another thread but here goes anyway :-)

I'd like to see a Giles from Buffy type. Older man, an intellectual, seems a bit bookish (probably a mage), but it turns out he was a real badass in his younger days, and still has that 'spark' - he's just tried to bury it cos he got into trouble, or something. Needs someone to encourage him, obviously ;-)

Or someone cynical and world-weary and kind of bitter, though in a dryly humorous rather than whingy way. Still a basically decent bloke who tries to do the right thing, but he has a sarcasm filter that everything he says goes through. I can't help it, I have a weakness for sarcastic men.

And I agree with others on this thread. No tragic backstory, please. I'm not a modder and I only ever play nice characters, but if one more potential love interest attempts to compare me to a dead former lover, I will mod in an option to punch him in the face.

So what you want is a Sand romance? All I can say is me too! Got to stop with making comparison to Neverwinter Nights 2 soon but really Obsidian created some lovely characters for that game. Posted Image

Yes! If I cannot have my low-brow Daveth-esque character or my hardy Templar, this is the character I'd like to see! I'd love for BioWare to include an older male LI. Someone charming in a sort of tweedy way like Giles, passionate about what he does, intelligent. Yes, please!

Ohhhhh, I'd forgotten about Sand. Yes, he would have been the perfect romance for me in NWN2. Snarky but not evil. And very clever. Yes please :wizard:

Well since it's a wish thread I would personally want something different from what Bioware done in the past. As much as I adored Valen, Carth, Kaidan, Sky and Alistair they all shared some similarities I'm getting a bit tired of and I'm not talking about the whole dead wife thing either.

I love Alistair in many ways but at times he can be horribly annoying to take along just because I prefer not to play my nice characters as saints. I would like their next attempt to be a nice guy that accually understand that sometimes messy things needs to be done and won't yell at my character for not being 100% nicer then anyone could ever be.

I think I would like to see Bioware attempt to create a character like Obsidian's Gannayev-of-Dreams for their next romance if I was given a choice but If we have to get another paladin type to rescue us I would prefer a male version of Kaelyn the Dove. At least Kaelyn admitted to following a very narrow path instead of telling us to do one thing and then getting mad after like Alistair did. Posted Image

I don't think BioWare has ever made a leading man that was truly "dangerous". I always liked Gann, he was really well-written. Not really a bad boy through and through, more just cynical and selfish, but BioWare hasn't made a character quite like him either. Zevran is probably the closest, but Gann is better-developed and easier to take seriously. And certainly much better than the NWN2 - God, what a bunch of annoying morons.

Kaelyn the Dove is one of my favourite characters in a video game. I thought that her crusade, well-meaning as it was, was naive, reckless and dangerous. But man, her passion and her integrity felt so alive that you really wanted to help her, even if you knew it was a mistake. The wonderful, emotional voice acting helped a lot. Betraying her tore me up - as narrow-minded as she could be, she had such a strong sense of honesty and experienced so much suffering that it was heartbreaking to just abandon her at such an important time. That's what you call a tough choice.

I think that passion would be the key for a paladin-type to make them interesting and sexy to a woman. They need to have passion about an ideal that they would give their lives for in a heartbeat, even if that ideal is naive and foolhardy. It can't be something vague and lame like "protecting the innocent" but something tangible, like Kaelyn's quest to tear down the Wall of the Faithless.

However, that would mean that in order to make sure that the character would make sense, there would be no happy ending here, only a sense of what could have been. The PC and this kind of character would never be together, because that person's ideals would always be more important than any single person. A happily-ever-after type story would cheapen things.

I would like to see and older, confident romantic option put in the mix. Someone you have to work a bit harder to get interested in you. I wanted to romance Duncan from the moment my female noble laid eyes on him. I would settle for someone who's a badass or betrayer. I liked Atton but I don't think that romance was developed enough in KotOR 2 Sith Lords.

Only up to a certain degree. Leliana was passionate about the Maker, and a lot of people can barely grit their teeth and hold it together whenever she opens her mouth. Personally, I don't think passion in a belief or ideal would honestly be that important compared to some other traits: Alistair's earnestness, Sky's rogueishness, Thane's peace/confidence, Jacob's...abs...

However, that would mean that in order to make sure that the character would make sense, there would be no happy ending here, only a sense of what could have been. You tread a thin, thin line.  Personally, I like the way DAO handled their happy endings: you can have it, sure, but it's going to come a price and sacrifice. ME2's worked as well, where it's simply a matter of working really really hard to make sure everyone survives. Even if marrying Alistair as Queen Cousland came with strings attached, to me, that bit of happiness is enough for "happily ever after". If there isn't one, generally it means something like "they never loved you", "they betray you", "they die".

*Agrees*
I would love to see a truely romantic tale between my character and a crusader with a real tragic ending. Meaning not tragic in the sense of Alistair dumping her at the Landsmeet after I spent all this time putting up with his annoying habbit of telling me to do one thing and then getting mad at me for doing what what he was too much of a whimp to do. I don't believe Bioware got that in them either though. :)

Yep, Atton only older would be good. And I do like the idea of the PC actively pursuing a love interest rather than just being a bit passive and making the right 'responses'. If I remember right, there were some nice flirty options with Alistair that helped make my Warden feel a bit more proactive.

Oh definitely! An older LI along those lines would be a breath of fresh air. That or someone along the lines of Seneschal Varel, I quite liked the chap xD;

And now I shall pop back into lurking.

I would argue death isn't a bad choice if it happen toward the end of the game and they handle it well. Toss in some nonsense about a short flame burns even brighter or some such here and I'm sold. Especially if it ends with my character and her hero going down together. Posted Image
