I'd like to see a Giles from Buffy type. Older man, an intellectual, seems a bit bookish (probably a mage), but it turns out he was a real badass in his younger days, and still has that 'spark' - he's just tried to bury it cos he got into trouble, or something. Needs someone to encourage him, obviously ;-)
Yes! If I cannot have my low-brow Daveth-esque character or my hardy Templar, this is the character I'd like to see! I'd love for BioWare to include an older male LI. Someone charming in a sort of tweedy way like Giles, passionate about what he does, intelligent. Yes, please!
Oh definitely! An older LI along those lines would be a breath of fresh air. That or someone along the lines of Seneschal Varel, I quite liked the chap xD;
And now I shall pop back into lurking.
Personally, since the game takes place over ten years, I'd prefer for him to be a bit younger when we meet him--he can mature as time passes, right?

No, you're right, it isn't a bad choice. It definitely has its merits, and believe me when I say my heartstrings twanged when Alistair sacrificed himself. But I just think that shouldn't be the only option. You should Earn Your Happy Ending.

Good point, either way a rather mature character would be good imo, not necessarily an older man but a mature one nonetheless, as you say he can mature physically as time passes.

Anything over 35 would do for me as a starting age, though my preference would be nearer 40. Still a fair bit older than Hawke (presumably), but young enough to stay the distance, assuming he lasts the full 10 years. Mind you, I'm of an age where even 50 doesn't seem *that* old anymore

I must agree with Zazei. The idea of the my chararcter dying with her true love to save the land would be an incredible moving ending.

True but depending on the story I think sometimes forcing a happy ending in can cheapen the story over all. Of course in the case of Dragon Age I rathered liked it. The ritual came with a price after all, even if we don't know what that price was. Just don't think they are always nessassary myself.
Beyond that I disliked how I couldn't if I worked hard enough find a way to "win" over Alistair in that regard and sacrifice my character for Alistair, in case of my city elf for example he could change and do more good then she could. Only way around it was to leave him behind and I didn't think it really reflected my choice as such when I did that.

Only up to a certain degree. Leliana was passionate about the Maker, and a lot of people can barely grit their teeth and hold it together whenever she opens her mouth. Personally, I don't think passion in a belief or ideal would honestly be that important compared to some other traits: Alistair's earnestness, Sky's rogueishness, Thane's peace/confidence, Jacob's...abs...
Leliana isn't fit to shine Kaelyn the Dove's shoes if we're talking character depth. She just got into the whole Maker thing last week, and if you do her sidequest and take the appropriate dialogue options, her personality more closely resembles her old bard-assassin personality. She's not nearly as firm and serious in her beliefs as Kaelyn.
Kaelyn's quest is a lot more serious too. She wants to tear down an unjust, cruel and archaic punishment for those who have done nothing but lacked the knowledge of the gods, despite whatever good they might have done in life. A terrible person who has worshipped a god will just be sent to their God's realm, scot-free. Only faith matters, not deeds. However, here's the interesting part: the order of the planes relies on this for reasons within the plot, and the Wall is a necessary evil for reasons expanded upon in the plot.
For a paladin-type knight in shining armor, passion is absolutely a necessary ingredient. Besides, when a man is passionate about something, women think it's sexy. For a jaded, rakish type, disdianfulness and cynicism is fine on it's own, but for your stalwart knight type, you need that fire to give an edge to his personality, otherwise he's just a bore like Casavir.
Kaelyn was more narrow-minded than Leliana probably, but at the same time was very likable because she had so much passion and you knew that she would stand by you no matter what. Also, like all the companions in MotB, she acted like a rational adult instead of a childish moron like the OC companions did, or indeed the Origins companions at times. In fact, there is a very cool line of dialogue when you talk to her and she mentions that she does not see colour - she only sees in black and white. Very fitting.

I took Morrigan as an LI and I loved the ending there. Thought it was completely appropriate. Sure, it might turn some people off, but her becoming a stay-at-home mom and bringing the kids home from soccer practice would have been hilariously stupid. Kaelyn wasn't an LI in Mask of the Betrayer, but if she was, it would have pissed me off to no end if she fell in love and decided the whole Wall thing was just a wacky rebellious phase she was going through.
I agree that the "they never loved you/ betrayal/ rocks fall everyone dies" ending sucks, but I'm not suggesting that one either. I'm just saying that to make your passionate knight in shining armor with integrity work, the passion needs come out ahead of any one person, because that's what drew you to them in the first place.

did she killed herself??

There are a couple other characters in the game who have almost the same reaction Daveth did if you use the Intimidate option as a mage.

I'm not sure if I believe any of Bioware's writers are able to write such a character or if they just choose not to. As you say Zev despite being a assassin is feels safe from the first moment we talk to him and never does anything to challange that after.
...Unless you don't have enough approval with him when you reach a certain point in the game.

Well since it's a wish thread I would personally want something different from what Bioware done in the past. As much as I adored Valen, Carth, Kaidan, Sky and Alistair they all shared some similarities I'm getting a bit tired of and I'm not talking about the whole dead wife thing either.
I love Alistair in many ways but at times he can be horribly annoying to take along just because I prefer not to play my nice characters as saints. I would like their next attempt to be a nice guy that accually understand that sometimes messy things needs to be done and won't yell at my character for not being 100% nicer then anyone could ever be.
I think I would like to see Bioware attempt to create a character like Obsidian's Gannayev-of-Dreams for their next romance if I was given a choice but If we have to get another paladin type to rescue us I would prefer a male version of Kaelyn the Dove. At least Kaelyn admitted to following a very narrow path instead of telling us to do one thing and then getting mad after like Alistair did.
I still want both.
I want the nice guy who will help me smack the evil *** on the head, but a bit more mature than "Alistair. Carth and Kaidan have the maturity I'm after, but with a sense of humor that can be a bit on the Jolee Bindo style.
I would also like the darker anti hero or if they want, the evil guy that I will probably not want anything to do with, but that should be available in case I change my mind and so we all have that extra warmth on those long game journeys.
I do not and I repeat this as many times as needed. I do not want any ending like Morrigan and Alistair. They've done it and I never want to see it again.

Meh. My Warden could take him, as she proved once before. In my opinion, "dangerous" would've been including a man like Loghain as an LI. Not really overt, I KEEL YOU danger, but... sneaky, potentially double-crossing danger. That's hot.
:)Not sure, but I'm betting our Hawke will be able to "take" any of the LI they give us. Might be interesting if the Bad Boy was un-takeable in a fight but would anyone really like that? I did like that I had the option of killing Zev.

Or someone cynical and world-weary and kind of bitter, though in a dryly humorous rather than whingy way. Still a basically decent bloke who tries to do the right thing, but he has a sarcasm filter that everything he says goes through. I can't help it, I have a weakness for sarcastic men.
And I agree with others on this thread. No tragic backstory, please. I'm not a modder and I only ever play nice characters, but if one more potential love interest attempts to compare me to a dead former lover, I will mod in an option to punch him in the face.
YES!!! I loved Giles. He would be a great mage. Why didn't I think of him. I want Giles! gushing here.

I agree. If we have a 10 year span, death at the end isn't as bad. I would rather have one ending where they are siting watching their kids learn to do something or as someone suggested somewhere, show someone telling the kids the story of their grandparents,
The only ending with Alistair I liked was the one I got romancing Zev. I hated the fact that not one of the Alistair romance endings had a nice riding off to save the world together without the image of Morrigan in my head ending. I totally quite romancing Alistair and found a nice mod that lets me romance someone I don't have to share. I will stop now and hope for DA2.

I'm going to be really really upset if there is not one "happy ending". They can have as many sacrifice endings as they want and I'll play them, but I have to have ONE just one ending that leaves me feeling that my character and her LI are enjoying the future without me.

You know what I would've liked? The ability to ask Alistair about sleeping with her. Any range from "I'll never forgive you"--"You made me do it!"--"NEVER FORGET!" to "Are you okay, honeybear?" to "So, tell me: did she turn into a spider?"
You can ask Morrigan...but you can't go "So, uh..."like a sister" dear...he didn't enjoy it too much, did he?" (Does it bother anyone else that she proclaims in front of her best friend and "sister" that her fiance will enjoy it far more than he thinks?)

I think the fact that we want a dangerous LI means that we are most likely NOT lonely creepers. If we didn't have fulfilling, healthy social lives, we'd be craving more of Carth and Kaidan. It's the fact that we already have plenty of sensitive, supportive lovers and friends that makes us want the "fantasy" of a bad boy.
