What kind of romance is it people wants, kissing and then a trip in the tent with grandma underwear on? :-)
Ugh. Men. All about sex, dammit.
Where are my cuddles? MY SERENADING. SWEET SWEET MUSIC UNDER THE MOONLIGHT. THAT IS NOT A METAPHOR.
Nah...just go over this thread. Most girls honestly are more interested in the hunt than the capture. Especially when the capture amounts to playing Pazaak. Without even the naked option. It varies from girl to girl.

What, you can't imagine a heroic couch potato with a beer belly, stained tank shirt, half bald, flies buzzing around him as he drove himself against darkspawn?
Oh yeah. Sexy!

I do like Sims. But the experiences are totally different. First, I'm a god in the Sims. Their wants, needs, personality, sexuality, or anything else can be ignored in favor of how you want to control them. With BioWare romances, you play a character interacting with other characters. You are in control of what you say or do, but, besides metagaming, I have no control over how a player feels or how they'll react. It feels more real. I am a player in the world, not the other way around.
You don't, er, 'hunt' in the Sims, you choose the same set of conversation options over and over and over again until they love you, and then you marry. There's no personality to it, no gauging responses. You can't experience the same thing twice. The "romance" doesn't ever really vary--just the people going through the motions do.

Ahh, sorry. Well, perhaps they have fixed the "grandma underwear" this time around. Although I never could figure out why people called it that. My grandma certainly doesn't wear underwear like that.
Sorry, but how do you know what kind of underwear your grandma wear ?
No wait, I'm not sure I want to know

My eighty-nine-year-old Jehovah Witness grandmother has no problem with being in her underwear in front of her granddaughter when she's getting dressed.

I love Garrus. Love him to itty bitty bits. But yeah, the romances in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 leave a lot to be desired in terms of implementation. To be entirely honest, I would rather they just axed the romances in both games altogether and put that time and energy into more character development and conversations for all the companions, regardless of Shep's gender.
In Mass Effect, the LIs stuck to Shep like particularly tenacious octopuses unless you really treated them badly. After one or two conversations, Liara and Kaidan were

Opposite problem in ME2. The romances are painfully obvious, and Shep is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
What I really disliked about ME/2 (and conversely loved in DA) was that unless you romance a romancable character they pretty-much flat-out stop talking to you. By the end of ME2 my M!Shep was cowering in his bunk cradling his photo of Liara and dodging out-of-sight of any female crew member in case they took his saying hello as a sexual advance.
As much as I love romances, make sure we have Friendships too, please!

Weeeell...we do see a tall, muscular man with horns of some sort and three other people in the Deep Roads wallpaper for DA2...
So...maybe we do get a qunari companion.
