No, never. I mean, my heartstrings twinged over Alistair's death and dumping scene and stuff, but I've never been moved to tears. Not for anything in a video game, actually. And only one movie makes me cry.

I was moved to tears in ME twice.  When I left Kaidan and when I left Ash.    Alistair, just made me sad and a bit angry.  Movies, depends on my mood.  I usually don't go to see a movie I think will make me depressed which is what brings out tears.

I'll admit that I'm the same way.  There are some movies that I feel I *should* see, but won't out of fear I'll wind up really depressed over them.

Well, that one movie I mentioned I specifically watch so I can cry. I usually watch it around the same time of the month, every other month or so. Guess why.

I'm pretty much that way about my games too.  It's why I get so upset with DA endings.  I'm hoping for better options in DA2.  I don't mind one or two or even three endings that I don't care for, but I need one that is of the happy every after variety.
I originally had 2 copies of DA:O  one for the pc and one for the xbox.  I sold the xbox one and kept the pc because I new someone would eventually make a mod with a nice happy ending.  Got it and now I'm playing again, just not with Alistair.  Zev isn't my type, I really like the standard hero with some variations.  Sir Gilmore works.:)

Have no idea.  And figure it's not the "obvious" one.  :?  So what is it?:)

I used to listen to music and sing along while I cried.  Every time my then current love and I broke up I would pull out the saddest songs I had.  Lucky I lived by myself and so I could crank the music up and sang my heart out.   Now, when I get sad I go to the bathroom and sing to myself.  Usually makes me laugh because it is pretty silly and I feel better.

Here's a hint: It is the obvious one. But don't say it aloud.

Music is rarely sad to me, when it's not in context with something...but I totally see what you mean, since Moulin Rouge is my baaaaww movie. It also works as a happy movie, too, if you turn it off as soon as they finish saying "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY" at the finale, and just assume it ends there.

Nope.  Though I would have cried if Atton's death scene romance confession had happened in my game, and hadn't been cut.

Good to hear :-)

Hmm?  Why is that good to hear?

Sorry didn't see your post at first because some children were playing, why good?ok,lets say I was a psychologist and was asking you the same question and you replied yes to my question, do you not think I would have suggested you to get into a hospital at once? so in that way it was good to hear

Like Moulin Rouge.  Music is my refuge.  My friends would listen to song for the dance quality and I'd listen for the words.  When I was depressed or sad I'd pile on the Barbara Streisand records (I have most all of them in record format).  She has a LOT of songs of a depressing nature.  When I'm in a good mood I listen to it all, from Brad Paisley, Bare Naked Ladies, Cheryl Crow and the list goes on.

I wouldn't mind have a LI who sings at least once to my character on a starry night.  Or absentmindedly hums a tune while we are waling through a town.

It takes more than being a hopeless romantic to get hospitalized.  Try danger to self or other, or psychosis - that's a fun one.Posted Image

Hmm.  Have you played Hordes of the Underdark?  Valen, the character I mentioned before, does actually sing and hum to himself a few times.  It's off-key, but it adds to his charm.Posted Image

However, I would have loved a Keldorn romance in BG2, and I'm sortakindaintoLoghain/Wardenpleasedon't shootme. And I have a serious crush on Varel. All of which is to say that it would be cool to have a sexy silver fox  to romance.

Loghain/Warden is Posted ImagePosted Image
A sexy silver fox, eh? I like how that sounds.
It's less about his look than about his personality, for me, though. He's strong and intelligent and mature and experienced. He's sincerely good and is a gentleman, but there is a darkness to him. I prefer that darkness in an LI. That darkness makes the difference between a gentleman like Bann Teagan and a gentleman like Nathaniel Howe.

To be fair, we didn't get to know Bann Teagan the way we got to know Loghain and Nathaniel (not that I think Loghain and Nathaniel are at all on the same level in terms of "darkness").

Yeah, there's a reason why certain movies, books, and even games are called "tearjerkers."

And it's not that I like my LIs boring and normal.  Quite the contrary.  I just am heartily sick and tired of the therapy romance that pervades BioWare and Obsidian games.  I'M A HERO NOT A GODDAMN THERAPIST.  I've "fixed" Atton, Garrus, Gann, Sky, Viconia, a slew of modded DA2 characters (though they aren't BioWare's fault), Jaheira, Zevran, and even Valen and Alistair to a certain extent.  As for Carth, Thane, Kaidan, Aarin Gend, Aribeth, Aerie, Bastila, Casavir, Bishop, Anomen, and all the rest?  I couldn't be bothered to fix them.  I either blew them off, chewed them out, used them as punching bags, or flat-out killed them because I am so sick of being therapist to LIs.

Which is why characters like Aneirin are nice.  I'm not saying LIs shouldn't have issues--every interesting person does.  But those issues should not come to define who they are as a character, and more relevantly, I should not have to play Freud in order to romance them *cough*MASSEFFECT*cough*

So being moved to tears by a story = neurosis?  Feh.

I cried numerous times in DAO.  I still tear up at certain things, like Tamlen's re-appearance.  Send in the whitecoats.

I suppose Teagan might have a darkness too, but I can only comment on what we're actually presented with. We only marginally got to know Nathaniel any better than Teagan, though, imo. That's why I compared the two. I'm not saying that Teagan is bad as a romance option, just that he's not the kind of option that I prefer.

For me it's less about the, er, 'payoff' scene than it is about the build-up and what happens afterwards. Conversation options, flirtation, daft banter, that kind of thing. DA was not bad, actually, but ME2 was less than stellar in this regard.

Shepard: 'So, Garrus, how, er, was your first experience in cross-species intercourse?'
Garrus: 'I've been thinking and I definitely want to try it with you! Now I need to calibrate!'
Shepard: '...'

I love Garrus.  Love him to itty bitty bits.  But yeah, the romances in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 leave a lot to be desired in terms of implementation.  To be entirely honest, I would rather they just axed the romances in both games altogether and put that time and energy into more character development and conversations for all the companions, regardless of Shep's gender.

In Mass Effect, the LIs stuck to Shep like particularly tenacious octopuses unless you really treated them badly.  After one or two conversations, Liara and Kaidan were  and my Shep was like...:pinched:  Opposite problem in ME2.  The romances are painfully obvious, and Shep is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.

I'm in complete agreement. Garrus is one of my fave characters in any game ever, which is why the romance bits were so disappointing. I really hope ME3 isn't all about Kaiden and Liara, in terms of romance. I know they're popular, but my Shepard is completely indifferent to the both of them. Cynical Turian, please, or no-one, dammit!

And in response to another post you made: My God, that's a Qunari??! That's appalling ... but those arms ... but that's completely different and utterly wrong ... but those arms ... but I liked Sten the way he was ... arms .. I'm confused I need time :o:wub:

A broken warrior in his 30ies or 40ies, quite serious with scars but with a great sense of judgement. Kinda like Kristoff but with another hairstyle, and not Alistairs hairstyle this time, preferably long hair.
