Hmm. Have you played Hordes of the Underdark? Valen, the character I mentioned before, does actually sing and hum to himself a few times. It's off-key, but it adds to his charm.
I did and I enjoyed Valen a lot. That might be why I subconsciously thought of it.

It is no secret, I like Alistair, big boy, tender heart, witty and great sense of humour.
But... Why not give us a choice? Lot's of choices bad boys, mages... Older, younger...
This is what I want. I want to be happy with my partner who is tender hearted, witty with a great sense of humor, teasing, flirting and willing to cut the head of of the evil creatures we are fighting (human or otherwise). II'd like a little bit more maturity, but young or older I would be quite satisfied with someone like the past BioWare love connections.
And I want the bad boy (or girl) available for those who want something more in that line. Lots of choices.

Unless she has a weapon to him; is planning on killing him and you can shoot her in the head with an arrow or lighting bolt. That I think is a good idea.
Then it would be harder not just, hello! You´re nice. Kiss. <3 and marriage. You will have to FIGHT for love...
If you can kill her thats just a plus

Anders was a great addition to the party, this mix of Alistair and Zev, and only wish we had more time to delve deeper into his story and perhaps even romance him. That would have been fantastic, such potential there (despite the fact that I was in a relationship with Alistair at the time... but after that rather brief peck on the ends of my hair - he totally missed my cheek there - I was rather miffed with Alistair - not even a proper kiss, let alone some more meaningful interaction - after all, I'm setting off to face more darkspawn, these seemingly more intelligent, and he's off to some bannorn or other and we probably won't see each other for a long time, if ever!)
And so I took a long, hard look at Zev... and am totally in love with him. Give me a man who is resourceful, strong, manly, with a hint of darkness (ok, more darkness wouldn't be a bad thing either although gotta be careful not to go overboard either)... but if you dig deep enough (and at times you just might have to dig REALLY deep), you will find this wonderful gem, a sensitive heart that at first glance you would have never thought possible to find in such packaging. He's this wonderful mix of strength and sensitivity, capable of both almost frightening darkness and heartbreaking tenderness. Of course, with a really well fleshed out story and a beautiful romance... That would be a fantastic addition to DA2 in my view.
Er... what do you think... aiming too high?

Ok, am only 2 pages into this thread, and so far there have been a lot of Alistair luving thrown out there. Which is great, as Alistair was my first great love. However, after a while, that whole lost-puppy/goofy/helpless thing he's got going on started to get to me.

I liked that we had both Alistair and Zev to chose from and i hope they give us options like that in DA2.
I romanced Zev twice and i was sad when i did the Fade with him, but he really wasn't my type. I had no problem killing him when I was a Human Noble or mage and if he had made a really deep connection with me, I wouldn't have been able to do that. I do think he's a good character and BioWare did (as usual) a great job with him. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do in DA.

Aye, I hear you hun. It was definitely wonderful to have a choice between two such different LIs. With ME1, my first playthrough I went with Kaidan, although he doesn't hold a candle to Carth... not even close. Think my second playthrough I'll check out what Liara has to offer, as Ashley is just... annoying.
Here's hoping for yet another wonderful LI/romance opportunity in DA2

i personally don't want my LI to be a jealous jerk. I don't have a problem if the LI wants to know if you are interested in someone else and you can say yes to stop the romance or no to continue it.
And an obsessive party member or outsider that you can get rid of when you tire of the tantrums would be fine with me. Sort of an over the top Conrad Verner without the wife. Not a sad needy one but an obnoxious one that won't hurt my code of conduct.

I have never tried that, think it only happens in the Sims, so I've heard
would also be a bit of a pain, if it happend both in real life and when you where playing video-games,I do play games to relax, not to be more stressful. :-)

I agree about not like jealousy, but in a different way. I honestly hate really jealous guys in media (and real life)--I hate how girls find them attractive, as if being someone's possession and having a man that foams at the mouth whenever you speak to another guy is something to be aspired for. I mean, I understand part of the charm of romance options is that they're not real life, but if I'm playing a character that could chew up and spit him out as an appetizer, I'll only feel offended when he reacts in rage to another guy. To me, extreme jealousy is just an extension of mistrust. If he trusted and loved you, he wouldn't need to be possessive and guard you from every angle, unless he thinks you're an uber-skank. And in that case, it's time to set priorities, LI.
Mild jealousy is okay--I liked how Alistair's was handled. He never came right out and said he was jealous, but you saw the overtones here and there. He wasn't pushy, he wasn't possessive, but that didn't mean he needed to like you flirting around. If I was dealing with a not-Alistair-like character, I probably wouldn't mind him being a little more jealous than that, and actually asking you about these things or being more confrontational with the other LI. But not a whole lot more.
Also, god, no I'd hate having to fight for a guy. Hate it, hate it, hate it. What sort of douchebag just sits back and watches as two women duke it out for him? What, winner take all? How is that love? How does he care? He can't make a decision on his own, he needs his love interests to do it? To me, it doesn't make the chase "harder" it makes it worthless. He's an adult, he should make these decisions. If a random old flame showed up and claimed him, and his answer was "Oh....hmmm...I don't know...." that just tells me he's not ready for another relationship. I like draaa~ma in my LIs, I like conflict, but I expect him to, in the end, actually love me.
And, good lord, don't get me started on having to compete with a party member for your love interest.

I agree 100% with this post. And as for jealousy, not only is it unattractive (to me at least), the kind of obsessive jealousy that's played up as "romantic" in crappy rom-coms and vampire novels is genuinely destructive for real-life relationships. It'd be interesting to see a video game that played it straight, where the jealousy becomes an actual problem, but too often it's like, "Oh, he's jealous, that means he cares about me!" No, if either partner in a relationship becomes extremely jealous, it's roughly as corrosive as pouring acid on each other's faces. Jealousy = love is a trope that's not only patently untrue--it's highly destructive.
Now, of course, jealousy is a very common and perfectly human reaction too. We all experience mild jealousy from time to time. Like Saibh said, Alistair's was nicely handled. He TALKED TO YOU about it without getting all uppity or angry, and resolved the issue through conversation instead of yelling, stalking, passive-aggressive, f***ery, etc.

Which reminds me of Gaider's comment on Cullen regarding his infatuation with the female mage."Oh, he's jealous, that means he cares about me!"

I can't find the thread anymore in which Gaider is legitimately creeped out at the idea of a Cullenmance, but I wish I could have it on hand to quote whenever anyone waxes lyrical about Cullen
