"Oh, he's jealous, that means he cares about me!"

Which reminds me of Gaider's comment on Cullen regarding his infatuation with the female mage.

"You're so precious to me, I want to keep you in this tower... FOREVER."

I can't find the thread anymore in which Gaider is legitimately creeped out at the idea of a Cullenmance, but I wish I could have it on hand to quote whenever anyone waxes lyrical about Cullen :pinched:  Possessive, obsessive, jealous, stalking relationships ARE NOT CUTE.  I know it's a "Your Mileage May Vary" kind of thing, but I wonder sometimes.

But then again, I just plain don't like Cullen.  That has something to do with it too, not gonna lie :D

I agree with this sentiment. I am not going to fight with another person for an LI. However, it is a video game and not real life, so I don't mind these stories existing to play out. I'd tolerate threesomes or mistress situations in my game, for my characters, in a way that I wouldn't find them to be fun IRL.

For me any LI that would suggest my character becomes his secret lover would get a kick between the legs. In DA having Alistair broke up with my character was heartbreaking but I rather see that a million times then have her beg for the "privilage" of being his lover while he finds a proper wife for marrige. I spend a full game getting Alistair to -100 influence before having him executed for the way he treated my city elf, I can't imagine how I would take revenge on a NPC if the LI was the one to suggest something that to me. Posted Image

I could accept standing back because the LI was the one that was important at a moment in the game but for the romance they better be equals or the companion can find someone else. I play games for my own enjoyment and these things certainly don't amuse me. Posted Image

Wow, vindictive much against Alistair?  Then again, given the way I tend to treat video game characters I dislike, I suppose I can't talk

As for the whole mistress thing, it reminded me a lot of children of Dune, with Alistair seeking out another woman who was wife only in name--and childbearing too I suppose--and treating the Warden like a wife in all but name.  Which actually makes me feel worse for the potential Queen of Ferelden, legally bound to a man who clearly loves another and would rather marry another.  Feh.  Mistress situations are weird.

He so deserved it! Posted Image
I just love the dialog he has when he drop too far in influence as well and tries to lecture the player on the honor of being a grey warden. I agree though, mistress situations are wierd. Despite who he may love I just can't see them as acceptable. It's a insult to both to the "wife" and the one he loves. I can't see it having a happy ending either. Posted Image

It depends on sensibilities, I think.  Lots of historical nobles and royalty were unfaithful up the wazoo and kept regular mistresses.  The sensibility was that marriages were political matches designed to produce legitimate heirs, and love had nothing to do with it.  If Alistair, Warden, and the Queen all kind of had that mentality, I'm sure it could work out just fine.  But that sensibility is, of course, long-outdated in the West, and we gamers have a hard time wrapping our heads around it.

Sable Rhapsody.. Me? Take something written on the Internet seriously? I think I know better than that after hanging out on the BioWare forums through the pre-ME2, DA:O, DA:A, TOR, and now DA2 forum ****** I wasn't at all insulted, I just didn't get your post. Prosody is a wonderful thing, and text kind of fails at it

Salut Madame.

You know the feeling of being very tired(almost the same as being drunk) when that happens, then sometimes what you write/say ends up to be some nonsense you don't even understand yourself. also forgot this in my post :-) with this, no one would talk about insulting :-)

I've done this.  :)  And you can't go back and get rid of it.  And I think it's worse on the web because we can't see faces, except for these little round guys:blink:, so can't really tell when someone is smiling or laughing.  Little round guys help, just a little, can upset the flow of the writing.

i personally don't want my LI to be a jealous jerk.  I don't have a problem if the LI wants to know if you are interested in someone else and you can say yes to stop the romance or no to continue it.
And an obsessive party member or outsider that you can get rid of when you tire of the tantrums would be fine with me.   Sort of an over the top Conrad Verner without the wife.  Not a sad needy one but an obnoxious one that won't hurt my code of conduct.:)

I agree about not like jealousy, but in a different way. I honestly hate really jealous guys in media (and real life)--I hate how girls find them attractive, as if being someone's possession and having a man that foams at the mouth whenever you speak to another guy is something to be aspired for. I mean, I understand part of the charm of romance options is that they're not real life, but if I'm playing a character that could chew up and spit him out as an appetizer, I'll only feel offended when he reacts in rage to another guy. To me, extreme jealousy is just an extension of mistrust. If he trusted and loved you, he wouldn't need to be possessive and guard you from every angle, unless he thinks you're an uber-skank. And in that case, it's time to set priorities, LI.

Mild jealousy is okay--I liked how Alistair's was handled. He never came right out and said he was jealous, but you saw the overtones here and there. He wasn't pushy, he wasn't possessive, but that didn't mean he needed to like you flirting around. If I was dealing with a not-Alistair-like character, I probably wouldn't mind him being a little more jealous than that, and actually asking you about these things or being more confrontational with the other LI. But not a whole lot more.

Also, god, no I'd hate having to fight for a guy. Hate it, hate it, hate it. What sort of douchebag just sits back and watches as two women duke it out for him? What, winner take all? How is that love? How does he care? He can't make a decision on his own, he needs his love interests to do it? To me, it doesn't make the chase "harder" it makes it worthless. He's an adult, he should make these decisions. If a random old flame showed up and claimed him, and his answer was "Oh....hmmm...I don't know...." that just tells me he's not ready for another relationship. I like draaa~ma in my LIs, I like conflict, but I expect him to, in the end, actually love me.

And, good lord, don't get me started on having to compete with a party member for your love interest.

Agree!  Like I said, the only way i wold fight for my guy (or girl for that matter) is if someone is holding a weapon to them and I get to shoot them in the head with something.    No guy (or girl) is worth fighting over unless they are in danger.
I also liked the way the way they had Alistair handle his relationship concerns.
I wouldn't mind if a party member flirted with the LI, as long as the LI turns them down when your approval (or whatever they will be using for LI) is high.  But that starts sounding to complicated and I like things simple.

You really want to fight over a guy?  Why.  I've never understood this.  if my guy wants me to fight over him, he'd not worth my time.       Unless she has a weapon to him; is planning on killing him  and you can shoot her in the head with an arrow or lighting bolt.  That I think is a good idea.B)

Haha so some agree with female fighting.^_^

Thing is, I would want to kill anyone who had a weapon to my LI or even one of the other party members, no matter who it was.  This is just the only way I would want to interact with the old flame of my LI.  I would not just cat fight for a guy.<_<

Did he say that?  I knew he liked my mage and that he had some infatuation vs how he's been trained issues, but missed this.

I know in one of my play throughs I had Alistair marry Anora and she asked me what I was going to do.  I told her I was leaving.  I have no interest in being the mistress of a married guy.  King or otherwise.

Yeh, I have a hard time enjoying anything that makes me angry.  fantasy or otherwise.  The majority of my characters react the way I would like to think I would react.    I may try something different because it's a game, but if it makes me uncomfortable or - angry - I usually scrap it and start a new game.

I did read some of the Dune series.  I had to force myself to read the first part of Dune, had to do that with LOTR too, but once I got into it I liked them both.  I did feel sorry for Anora when she marries Alistair and he's your LI, which is one reason why my character left.  But also, I don't see my characters as the mistress type.  :)  I never made Alistair king by himself.  I either became Queen, give it to Anora, died or left.

Yes, but how many of those mistresses lasted past their prime.  :)  I guess if you were lucky to fall for a king or other royalty who was kind they might set you up for life, but I would always worry in the back of my mind that when he got tired of me he'd send me to the tower.
Speaking of mistresses - Gigi - one of my favorite musicals.  How she describes what will happen to her when Gaston tires of her.  How upset he is watching her become the woman who is a mistress and when he realizes he loves her.  <sigh>   I also have the short story.  OK.  This might be why I don't care for the mistress plot in the game.  I want someone who loves my character enough to leave the throne or marry her anyway.

I'm scratching my head trying to recall anywhere where Alistair suggests a mistress arrangement rather than the player?  But don't let such quibbles get in the way of your pixel vengeance.  Woman scorned etc.  Apparently applies also in video games.

I liked some of her books, and Mr. Darcy was ok.  But I actually found Mr. Rochester more interesting.  Of course he did forget to mention the wife he already had when he asked Jane to marry him, but everyone has memory loss occasionally.
