The more I read that qunari thread that's going, the more I'm intrigued by a qunari romance. It's so utterly foreign to them. I imagine he'd have to choose between his identity and you, and doesn't that just make for glorious drama? Plus, we can be sure that he's never had a wife. Unless his quest is to find a kid he knows he had that became a Tal-Vashoth or something. Still. It'd be so different from other BioWare romances, I'd think.

I have to admit, for me the initial attraction was the muscles :innocent:  But yes, you're right, there could be more to it than that given qunari culture and their attitudes toward friendship, love, gender roles, etc.  Could make for a nice set of romance complications without dragging out the old BioWare pick n' mix of LI issues.

If they can do it with Garrus, Bio can surely manage a romance with a large, muscular, mysterious. qunari. Ulp!

Whenever there's an option, I always seem to go for the non-humans first, foremost and often exclusively. And the more alien the better, recently (hello lovely bird man Garrus) I think Bioware's making me weird. Or, they are reflecting and catering for my inherent weirdness. No, wait, that's an uncomfortable thought, Bio is making me weird!

Well maybe it's just me then, i haven't gotten super far into the game but from what i've seen, even if he is rude i always think about his words and most of the time think..."hm, he's right." yeah, he is kinda perma pmsing but really, i like that he would rather have people hate him for who/what he is than kiss people's asses and have people love him for who he is not. i do think a lot of it is for show too and he bses just to show how much of a tough guy he is.

All right, I'm not going to spoil the game for you.  However, I do think you (and some other people) have a very, very generous opinion about the type of person Bishop is.  I am thinking of the Draco in Leather Pants trope from the TV Tropes website.  I'll just say I don't think it's an accident that he was given the Chaotic Evil alignment, and that there are character types that don't fall into the categories of either "asskisser" or "evil sociopath."

You are of course entitled to your opinion, it's just that the love people have for Bishop (as a possible love interest, mind you, not just as a character) is a bit of a head-scratcher for me, personally.  It's like the idea of a Cullen romance for some other people here (I'm hardly pro-Cullen, but at least he started off nice).

Well it's kind of like how some people can't really stand the "paladin" types and think carth/kaiden/alistair are just rehashes of each other, though I personally think they have pretty different personalities. or how people are very por loghain or pro alistair.

when i think of evil sociopath i think of kefka from FF6. THAT was an awesome villian. I don't see any rhyme, reason, or redemption in him. i haven't gotten to the end of the game yet but i will reserve my judgements for bishop until then. in the mean time i do have a healthy respect for him.

You know I love dead wives.  :)

Everyone here does. I know I practically throw my panties consider long-standing commitment to guys who compare me to their dead wives.

I think that was sarcasm, if I go by past post.:)    But it's hard to tell without voice tone and face with eyes rolling.  .

Yeah, it's hard to not love Garrus.  That voice, those scars, that sniper rifle...mmm...  Though for me, it was always just Garrus that I found attractive, and not turians in general.  I liked Garrus for his snark, his personality, and that sexy-as-sin voice.

I'd call Anomen, Casavir, and Samara "paladin" types.  Carth, Kaidan, and Alistair are good guys, and ardently so, but I wouldn't call them paladin types.  To me, what epitomizes a "paladin" type character as opposed to a normal good guy is a certain moral inflexibility.  Or, more colloquially, having a GIANT STICK UP YOUR TUSH.  I have met a grand total of about three no-kidding paladins that I haven't wanted to curbstomp at some point.  One of them was my own D&D character.

But just to prove that any trope can be redeemed, here's my 2 cents.  I can't stand paladin types on even my good days.  I usually end up either killing off those NPCs, never picking them up, or just dumping them somewhere nice and hidden.  But I adored ME2's Samara, because she managed to be Lawful Good without being Lawful Stupid.  She knew what her code required of her and followed it unwaveringly, but she was flexible enough to seek solutions that would satisfy the code and spare innocents.  I thought she was awesome.

How about someone like Dexter?  Not sure if anyone watches it, I watched it once and couldn't watch it again, it's just to disturbing to me.  He seems to be a total sociopath without any feeling of right or wrong, but only goes after people who have committed really bad crimes.  I think that's how it goes.  He mimics the emotions of other people and is very good at it.  The one show I watched, he had a girlfriend and co-workers who thought he was just like them.  Not sure how that would work in a video game.

I don't think your alone.  The LI skin isn't going to matter to me, as long as the personality is there.  I haven't done the Jacob romance because of Shepard's stalker like tone when she talks to him.  I like Jacob as a character.

Funny that you should mention Dexter; part of my coldly utilitarian Paragade FemShep's personality was based off him ^_^  Not the sociopathy, but the strict and almost desperate adherence to a moral code that's not necessarily intuitive.  Dexter does get better as the series goes on, with somewhat tragic consequences.  I really enjoyed the show.  Though I will agree it makes for heavy watching.

If we're talking sociopaths, I want to either play someone like Azula or be able to have one as a party NPC.  But I'm heavily biased :P

Hollywood sociopaths can seem sexy and fun.  IRL, sociopaths are a disaster to date.  You are lucky to walk away from the relationship losing no more than your money and some months of your life.  Real sociopaths destroy your sense of trust in other human beings,  They don't feel anything.  They can't feel anything.  Their brains are actually different from yours and they understand emotions the same way someone who is color blind understands color.....intellectually but not experientially.  They cannot be fixed.  The intelligent ones usually make it to the top of some corporate heap and ruin the lives of their underlings and families.  You'd be amazed at how many "loved ones" in a sociopath's life turn to drugs or suicide.....the dumb ones just commit crime after crime and end up in jail.  NO DEXTERS....no, no no.  Let's not romanticize dangerous people, please.

This plus I'm not entirely convinced Dexter is a true sociopath anyway. He seems plenty capable of love to me.

I can't even bring myself to get into romancing a sociopathic character in fictional settings. They just seem so hollow. I mean I'm all for an interesting character having a rough exterior but if there isn't a person I can care about inside I just can't get that interested. Doesn't have to be a "heart of gold" type of thing, just something besides all-consuming selfishness. Otherwise they come off as one-dimensional.

There's a difference to me between "cool and aloof" and "sociopath". A sociopath...doesn't care. About you, about anything. One of the things that defines them is their incapacity for love. A true sociopath I would never want as a love interest. Despite wanting a bad boy, or a qunari, or any number of emotionally distant love interests, I always expect that they do indeed end up loving you ultimately.

That's never possible with a sociopath. With a guy like Dexter...I don't know. I don't think he's achievable by RPG standards--you can only understand his character by being inside his head and seeing the multiple sides of him. The side he shows Rita I wouldn't say is "false", but it's not his whole self. If he only ever showed that put-on side, then you never see the real him. If he only shows you a blank side, then he's boring.

Yeah I was thinking more along the lines of requests for guys like Ozai when I wrote that. Cool and aloof is fine, so is the whole "gruff and bristly" guy that you fight with in the beginning ala Beauty and the Beast. That would actually be pretty interesting though maybe hard to implement.

Disregarding Rita as an argument I think Dexter plainly loves the kids and Deb. I believe he does love Rita in his own way but that's debatable. <--Trying very hard not to get too spoilery for people who don't watch, heh.

But yeah, the story wouldn't work the same if we weren't inside his head all the time so I see your point there.

I'm debating whether it's worth being offended or not.

...

It is.

Go somewhere else with your stereotypes and leave us be, if you have nothing constructive to say. I hardly care if you meant this as a light joke, since past posts of yours in this thread have been towards the "offensively stereotypical" side.

Would you have posted a similar thread on stereotyping Muslims or blacks or gays? No, I don't think so. Because that would have been offensive and gotten you banned.

You've made these kind of posts before. I hardly think you mean it in a light-hearted, joking manner. Regardless, not everyone appreciates being stereotyped when it's one side picking on the other. You notice that girls don't post things like that about themselves--unless it's truly funny.

Oh, gonna play that card, are you? I'm rolling  my eyes so hard right now.

We have the same jokes about women in America. In fact you can find it on greeting cards and in lame sitcoms so really, it's just terribly old and cliched.

But you don't really care about that, you just wanted to feel superior to us. Protip: your humor is not as edgy as you think. Try harder next time.
