I'm not sure if it's been said before, but I would like to romance a male Orlesian chevalier.

In DA:O I found Riordan's accent to be incredibly sexy - it was a shame we couldn't seduce him the night before the Battle of Denerim like my female Cousland seduced Dairren...
*wistful sigh*

Anyway, the chevalier might initially start off as a pompous, arrogant jerk who makes snide comments, questioning Lady Hawke's ability to lead (unlike Alistair, who was like a sad, lost little neutered pup that followed my female Warden around without question).
The chevalier would secretly be in love with Lady Hawke, but he wouldn't want anyone to know, so he would tease her and make her hate him at first. They would, eventually, have passionate, angry sex together after a shouting match ended with him grabbing her and kissing her (Lady Hawke could then decide to slap him or kiss him back).

...Yes, that would be nice *blushes*

Ooo, that's a fun idea.  I do like slap-slap-kiss romances, and UST.  Valen's romance in NWN:HoTU had elements of that.  And so did Atton's "romance" in KOTOR 2.  Though of course, you do run the risk of the player just finding the LI plain annoying.

Loghain, I've always felt, gets a bit of the Draco in Leather Pants treatment, especially from those who really felt for him in the Stolen Throne.

That is probably true, to an extent. But it wouldn't be a trope if it wasn't fun and appealing to a significant group of people.

I've been trying to understand this, really I have, and I think Loghain is a great character, but a romance interest???  I'm all about diversity and understand that different people find different traits attractive, plus diversity in a game adds flavor, but I'm just flabergasted when it comes to him.  What's so attractive about Loghain?  If someone could explain it to me I would greatly appreciated it because I'm slightly bias - see earlier rant.

He potentially falls into a list of romance tropes, just like almost every other character in the game. If you hate him and are in rant mode, then no explanation I offer will make any difference.

Oh no - not in rant mode at all.  Catharsis is a wonderful thing and I'm completely mellow right now, feelin' peachy keen, and genuinely curious.  No mean vibes were intended by the earlier post.

I would explain as something similar to a Beauty and the Beast romance. He's a big, mean, nasty dude but She softens his bitter exterior him through a long, angsty, drama-licious journey. Like phaonica said, it's a trope. Not my favorite, but to each their own. :)

I'm a dead sucker for the bad boy trope. Yes yes yes yes, it's been done a million times and is totally manipulative of my primitive desire to chase danger, but aw hell. I can't help it. They're just so gosh darn cute.

...Oh, hey, Nathaniel, how you doing baby cakes?

Ew. I'm shallow enough to want my LIs to be hot.

Casavir and Mical come to mind with being sort of icky to look at...of course, both aren't BioWare.

Not only that, but part of the thing with Beast is that he had power over Belle--that's what made him threatening, and that's what made it all the better when he didn't go mad with that power, and that Belle was capable of loving him, once he stopped being all douchey.

I'm not sure how a Beast-like character would work in a video game. Since you can have any type of character you want, it'd be difficult to have a PC that is patient with a guy who treats you like **** and kidnaps you until, like, 2/3rds through the romance. There always has to be a little bit of give.

Maybe it could be something along the lines of total douchebaggery in the party for a bit, questioning your command decisions and what not, and then he gradually eases up and becomes more cordial toward you as the game progresses, building on character while at the same time building on friendship/romance dialogues.
*lightbulb* This could be our Qunari - comes off as a buttnut due to racial and cultural differences, but the more he gets to know the PC and vice versa, and the more he becomes familiar and comfortable with the culture, the more open he is to flirting and romance with the PC.  Of course the PC would have to teach him about flirting, because according to Sten, they don't know the meaning of the word.Posted Image

To some people, any character who shows any human emotion whatsoever is "whiny."

Any of my Shepards who romanced Kaidan stayed with Kaidan.  :)  He is actually my favorite LI of them all.  But I have a couple of Shepards who either didn't romance anyone in ME1 or made the hard decision of leaving Kaidan behind.  One of them romanced Thane and that was rather sweet.

I will say, I *do* find Thane very attractive.  I'll be his good friend, for sure.  Garrus as well.Posted Image

It's been a long time since i played NWN I do sort of remember Aarin Gend and remember that I wished he would join my group.

IIRC the devs were trying to experiment a bit by having the romancable NPCs not also be your companions--a couple companions had semi-romances, but they weren't the same...and funnily enough, you could string along Aribeth and your companion if you wanted, no one would care!  I think the devs have said that overall, people do prefer to actually travel with their loved one.

Oooh yeah. And you know, thinking about Beauty and the Beast a bit more, the only thing she can't do while she's captive is leave. His power over her is pretty negligible otherwise. So, maybe all you'd need to do is have the PC and the LI stuck together, kind of like how you really can't get rid of Alistair for most of Origins even if you hate him. Of course, there'd be nothing to make you actually talk to or use him but if you ignored him you probably wouldn't be too interested in pursuing that romance anyway.

Ooh, of course! I like that idea--whenever I envision a qunari romance, I imagine it obviously is going to be a rough start. It's hard to imagine how a faithful follower of the Qun would manage to fall in love with a non-believer. One of the big reasons why I want to see it pulled off.
