this thread is funny or i'm tripping off sleep deprivation (DMT in brain, google it govt shhh).

I'd like some different sized males and different cut-scenes to suit, also beard grabbing, scratching and donkey punches, possibly make them interactive "Tap x fast" maybe incorporate shape-shifting, i'm going to imagination-land to think more on this.

I don't really have anything in mind for a background. Just...not Carth Syndrome. Look under Wynne's post on this thread to see my exact sentiments on it.

I'm pretty trusting of anything BioWare does, I just think that this sort of character background is something they've overused. I'd like to see it done away with.

Thanks.  Interesting stuff.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.  Hopefully they will do more than one LI and have a number of different backgrounds.

@Dave of Canada - Hm. I actually liked your character to be honest. He would probably be someone I'd romance in a game.

@Saibh - I never noticed the dead lover thing actually. I play so many RPGs in a year that they all tend to blend together story wise. I never knew Carth had a wife. That's because I never finished KOTOR as I said earlier. What I saw of him when I did talk to him... he seemed rather dull. I don't think I would have progressed the relationship out of like for him. More I would have progressed the relationship for content. With that said, I don't care about dead wives or girlfriends. That doesn't phase me as much as lame individuals as "love interests". Bioware is really the only company that puts these elements into their games. I can't say with certainty that if in the real world I met some of these people, I'd ever pursue a permanent relationship with them. Then again I'm not a romantic.

I'm not sure if it's been said before, but I would like to romance a male Orlesian chevalier.

In DA:O I found Riordan's accent to be incredibly sexy - it was a shame we couldn't seduce him the night before the Battle of Denerim like my female Cousland seduced Dairren...
*wistful sigh*

Anyway, the chevalier might initially start off as a pompous, arrogant jerk who makes snide comments, questioning Lady Hawke's ability to lead (unlike Alistair, who was like a sad, lost little neutered pup that followed my female Warden around without question).
The chevalier would secretly be in love with Lady Hawke, but he wouldn't want anyone to know, so he would tease her and make her hate him at first. They would, eventually, have passionate, angry sex together after a shouting match ended with him grabbing her and kissing her (Lady Hawke could then decide to slap him or kiss him back).

...Yes, that would be nice *blushes*

Nice.  I like doing the teasing.  Would be interesting to see how I like being on the receiving end.

I posted in the thread but never gave my opinion. I just thought about that after I was collecting Demon Contracts and monster pieces in the middle of a floating pirate ship last night (Don't ask).

Romances are not the reason I play Bioware games so lets get that on the table now. I liked Alistair, don't get me wrong. However, I really don't want a romance like him again. I'm dying for a real man. I don't want to have to sort out all of his issues, Daddy Drama, Mommy Drama, Insecure Drama, etc. I want one that's going to show me up. One that'll be sarcastic and try to outdo me. One that's dying to impress me on the inside but a rival on the outside. I want a guy that's willing to go toe to toe with me. One that pushes me to do my best while bandaging my leg and scolding me for being reckless. Someone like Loghain actually. I have this love/hate relationship with him. I just love the guy. Man, if he had been an LI I would have spared him in my playthoughs. Well the ones I'm attempting anyway.
Loghain is my primary choice for LI in Origins. He certainly had his share of Drama, yet he was strong, and was trying his damnedest to fix things. I Posted Image him so much!
I find him a truly interesting character. There’s so much depth to him. He’s not a guy I’d want to change or make him be something other than himself. He’s someone I’d accept for who he was, what he did and try my hardest to understand his motivations. Sorry Alistair.

First of all, apologies for my late/out of the blue comment... seems like I am jumping all over this thread... but it's just SO awesome! Posted Image

Second... Karridan, I Posted Image you! Posted Image

I couldn't agree more hun, there's just something about Loghain, something... appealing.  At first, I was totally outraged at his actions, and how could he, that bastard, and I was gonna enjoy filling him full of arrows, chopping off his head and bathing in his blood... Posted Image er, ahem... think the forums definitely need a way more EVIL smiley than that, it just doesn't even begin to encompass the evil smiley I want to use here.

But then... well, let's see, I witnessed Alistair's pettiness and (as Biddy has so wonderfully described here, his "picking the most inconvenient moment to hit puberty and stand up for himself" (it was a bit of a jarring experience for me, this man I was romancing at the time, acting a bit childish when things were not going his way, he just stamped his foot and said, "FINE, if this is how things are going to be, then I WILL be King, just so I can enjoy my revenge... not for any other reason, not because of duty or honor or glory or because this country and its people need someone that will take care of them and, even though I do not know if I can do it, I will try to be a good King to the best of my abilities"), read Mr. Gaider's wonderful books ("The Stolen Throne" especially) which definitely opened my eyes to the man that we met at Ostagar. They helped me understand his actions a bit more (not that I agree with his choices, but I certainly started to understand) and understand how he ended up the man he is. Also, there are some truly magnificent fanfiction pieces out there, where I believe the authors have captured Loghain beautifully where, while staying true to his characted, shined more light on the various aspects that make up this dark and yet compelling man.  From the ones I have read so far, I believe Arsinoe de Blassenville has done the most amazing job in her two different but equally entertaining stories, "Victory at Ostagar" and "The Keening Blade".

Zevran is still my number 1 romance option, although I wouldn't mind even more story, depth and "interaction" with him. Posted Image But the more I find out, the more I'm exposed to with respect to Loghain, I have to say... I am beginning to find him... irresistable.

The more I think about what you described above, the more I like it and believe can honestly say that that sort of character would appeal to me greatly... heck, the character you described would simply be PERFECT! Posted Image

Hmmm, here's a thought; it would simply be wonderful if BioWare came up with a Loghain DLC (story driven please!) which DLC would introduce a romance option that could be imported into out DA:O story.  Ohhh, that would just be awesome! What phaonica has in store for us with her Loghain project (check out her signature) is just the sort of thing, though with a bit more story and depth to make this DLC an instant buy, IMHO. phaonica, I just can't wait!

@AloraKast - Oh! Thanks for bring my attention to those stories. I'll have to read them when I get time. :D I can think up so many things in my head but they will probably never see the light of day. I just want something different you know?

There isn't anything wrong with Alistair, I like him as a character. However, if I were ever in a real world situation he would be the first guy I'd pass over. I hate to say it. He would strictly be best friend territory because that's where I could see him in my life. Someone I'd IM about silly stuff/action figures/comic book stuff but never be anything more than my friend. My boyfriend isn't anything like him and for that I'm grateful.

This may be entirely off-topic, but since it fits with the current “Loghain character-type romance creepy/not creepy” theme… anybody here Harry Potter fans? If you are and have delved into ANY of the Severus Snape fanfiction... well, honestly, that would explain a lot of the "Beauty & the Beast" trope as well. You've got a very similar personality, after all... dark, brooding, very blunt (to the point of full-on rudeness), sarcastic and snarky type of man. And for most of the HP books, Snape's actions were highly questionable and by the end of Book 5, it looked like he was in full-blown finger-steepling, maniacally-cackling Evil Mode. But throughout it all, there was/is a contingent of females that totally swoon at the idea of being The One who pentrates those carefully-erected emotional walls and finding what they are convinced is the "Jerk with a Hidden Heart of Gold".

I just really think it's the exact same, similar set-up. The main difference being that Snape made Bad Decisions, then went on to Redeem Himself and died a hero. Loghain was already a hero from the rebellion who then makes Bad Decision after Bad Decision to Downright Abhorrent Decisions because, with him, the Ends Always Justify The Means, and thus he becomes the Tragic Fallen Hero.

So, yes, there's a female audience for that. I loved me some Snape. Wished he didn't have to die, ultimately, but there you go. I couldn't choose that for the book. But I CAN choose to let Loghain redeem himself (without having to die for it) by fighting at my side and then either riding the dragon myself or letting Morrigan take one for the team. So, yes, big redemption fan here. Posted Image

@DragonRacer13 - I never read Harry Potter. That and Twilight are two juggernauts that totally flew past me. Well let me clarify that, I read the first few chapters of Harry Potter and was done with it actually.

However, that doesn't make your comment any less true. For games I'm always OK with redemption, especially if the person knew what they did was wrong. It takes a big person to admit they screwed up and want to make it better.

Kerridan,

I truly hope you will enjoy these two stories as much as I have been.  I literrally burst out laughing while reading "The Keening Blade", the situations are sooo comical... but both stories leave me drooling rather profoundly yet unashamed, waiting for that next chapter. I am simply loving the direction that Arsinoe is taking with both of these stories and simply cannot wait for more to be revealed. Posted Image

Oh my... I have to say that Wynne has captured the whole argument/idea rather beautifully and completely and explained the situation in the best manner I have seen thus far. I can certainly understand the view and hope that BioWare will take her suggestions to heart and present us with something new in the future, something that hasn't been done before.

Many thanks for the link!

Sorry for all these posts... I just remembered something.

I wanted to clarify that I was not bashing Alistair in the previous post (well... much anyways). I do like him as a character and, when I'm in the mood for a tender, sensitive experience in my game, yes, I will turn to him. Not saying there's anything wrong with that.

Though in this thread we have been discussing what would be our ideal romance/LI. And that's why I tend to lean to the darker, manly character and hence the fascination with Zev and Loghain type characters.

I do recall a rather amusing experience, when enjoying the game for the first time with my Dalish Warden and pursuing a relationship with Alistair (I haven't really looked at Zev at that point, as that would come later). Alistair, to me, was a great LI in my first playthrough of DA:O. I was overall quite happy with him and felt rather loyal to him as a person. That is why I was determined not to change his personality and avoided hardening him, as that, in my mind, would be like forcing him to become something he is not. And I most certainly didn't wish to do anything of the sort.

And then... he had the audacity to dump me! I was FURIOUS! Oh, he most certainly found himself deposited on his royal ****, after my Wade's Superior Dragonskin gloved fist connected with his handsomely chiseled jaw.

Reload...

Ok Alistair, let's go get you a back bone...

Petty of me? Probably... but this is MY fantasy that I get to play out in this wondrous world that the good people of BioWare have created... so you don't get to dump me Alistair! Posted Image

Ever since then, I see Alistair more in the role of a friend, than a good LI... as my sights are focused elsewhere... although... like I said before, every now and then, when I'm in the mood, I come back to him.

No--I honestly believe that if both parties are adults, there's nothing "wrong," it's a matter of what they're comfortable with.

What if I RP'd Revan as being a fourteen year old that dressed up as a republic soldier for a play on the ship before the Sith attacked?

i'd say 14 is not an adult so doesn't fit the "both parties are adults" idea.  There are a couple of states where you can marry at 15 with parent and court approval, but I would worry about someone 15 marrying anyone, much less someone 30-35 years older then them.
17 or 18?  I wouldn't "get it" but I do know someone who married a guy 25 years older than her.  They've been married for 7 or 8 years so far and have kids.  She did not marry him for his money.

I liked your story idea, but agree with the others, that there needs another option beside sex to get the boat ride.

@AloraKast - Of course not. I'm sometimes blunt to a fault. I hope you didn't think I thought anything other.

I think he's an adorable little guy but for me adorable is only going to get you so far. I never got dumped by him since I masterminded my first play though to become Queen. However, I don't think in the context of the game world I would have ever really made him King. He's damn sure not cut out for it and I have other things to do with my time to to guild him along the path of a king.

He just wouldn't be my first choice of my ideal romance. I'm really sad that the original concept of Alistiar got dropped but it's understandable why they did. That concept would have been the Alistair I would totally fall hard for.

Oh dear. David said something a while back. I'll try to find the post if someone doesn't find it first. Alistair was supposed to be an older Gray Warden. One that was gruff and had seen many battles. However, they wanted Alistair to be one of the first people you talked with and guided you into being a Gray Warden better. He said that it just wouldn't make sense for someone like that to defer to you all the time so they came up with the current idea of Alistair. I know I'm paraphrasing like hell but that's how I remembered it. Let me see if I can find the exact posting.
