...I think I honestly wouldn't like him. Some don't consider Alistair much of a man, but I do. Besides, what the hell counts as a "nerd" in Thedas?

I would think someone who is scholarly.  Also, I do think there is potential for range there--while I'd prefer a good guy, there's no reason why you couldn't give a nerdy/scholarly guy a darker personality (or, just make him amoral).

I have bad memories of Mical...but he's not BioWare.

I guess you could have an amoral scholar, but...I think I'd just want to pinch his cheeks all the time. "D'aww, look at you, you angry little book-reader! Are you going to switch the "Health Potions" with "Demon Summoning" books again?"

Whereas an amoral guy with a sword is a bit more threatening...even if a mage can shoot lightning up your bum, there's something decidedly not-dangerous about dresses robes.

Nice.  Go Jasmine!  Of course while while watching the link I couldn't help but notice a parody of ME2 and the Love Boat.  I giggle inanely.

I really think they needed a Garrus in there as "Your Ship's Batman".

This is possibly the greatest ME parody I've ever seen.

Funny stuff!Image IPB

I on the other hand think they can look intimidating...but then, I am biased towards mages.Image IPB

Ahhh, absurd tangents. They're so much fun!!! :)

But back to topic, as far as romantic interests go, I enjoyed Alistair the best in DA:O. His romance seemed fleshed out and interesting, not too mention his VA (Steve Valentine I think?) has an incredible voice and did a great job. So great in fact that I would like to keep Alistair where he is - in DA:O. Zev, while fun, just seemed superficial to me and Leliana scared me. For DA2, while I would enjoy a wide variety of romantic interests, I want my bad boy. I want a man who's got a 5 o'clock shadow, rough around the edges, and gritty. I want someone who will try to bully me and respects me even more when I put him in his place. I want someone who can hold their own with my femHawke and be my equal, a man with a rich and detailed background who may even be a bit jaded, but not so much that he would stab me in the back. Also, I would very much enjoy intelligent innuendo in my conversations with him.

If anyone wants to add to my bad boy, please feel free to do so. I shall be lost in fantasy for a bit...

He had the most god-awful ugly face. I'm sorry, I just couldn't get over it. Besides that, as much as I liked Atton, I never felt like I romanced either of them, you know? You hardly have any romantic dialogue...girls really got short-handed on that game.

Is it very stereotypical of me to really love the tall, dark, and snarky? I don't know, I'd probably like a mage better if he wore pants.:innocent:

LOL, don't be sorry.  I didn't feel like I really romanced either of them, myself--it was obvious that they are both into your character, but nothing ever came of it, at least not in the content that was released.

No, they can be cool.Image IPB

I *do* hope for more variety with mage outfits this time around.

I find a through-line in Carth->Kaidan->Alistair. All of them are extremely sensitive, funny, emotionally available, loyal. Too good to be true. While I can honestly say I enjoyed romancing all of them, it would be nice to branch out a bit. A cocky bad boy would be a nice change. It would be an interesting twist to have a romantic interest who actually hurt MY feelings for a change, instead of always being the one doing the hurting/dumping/careful tiptoeing around issues.

It would certainly be nice to be able to get into arguments/disagree with a love interest without it immediately ending the relationship. DA touched on that with the "offended" flags, but occasionally, I felt like I was in the right with my argument, and it felt silly that had to apologize without getting an explanation back.

Alistair telling you about his kingship way late in the game comes to mind. It's possible you don't find out until right before the Landsmeet, and not because you ignored him when he tried to tell you, but because he just so happened not to be with you when you first reached the village. It's possible you've slept with him by that point, and it's just a teensy bit irritating that saying "Now I don't know who you are" raises that offended flag. As if did something wrong.

Hellooo, ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me. But if he stopped dropping in battle and learned how to tank, he might fight like me.

Look down, back up, where are you? You're in a castle, with the man your man could fight like. What's in your hand? Back at me. I have it. It's a tome filled with that XP you love. Look again, the tome is now sovereigns! Anything is possible when your man learns how to use his stamina well.

I'm on a horse.

ITA - I'm encouraged by the information that NPC approval won't be necessary to unlock bonuses, so that you can use companions that you may have an antagonistic relationship without crippling your team.  That's a step in the right direction for sure.  I like your point about fighting w/o ending the romance.  There would be a point in a serious relationship where you'd be able to argue or disagree and know the person wasn't going to bail.  Like once you get Alistair to 90, unless it's a crisis point (Landsmeet for example), nothing you do or say can lower him below 90.  He might be hurt but doesn't stop loving you - now that's real life.  ;)

Ha ha, Calla, that's classic.

Regarding love interests, I am always fated to crush on the one character who isn't romanceable. I am not necessarily after an evil character, but I do like a badass - one who is a bit more renegade, if you're talking in ME terms.

Bioware always seems to give us some sensitive type with a dead wife (Carth, Sky, Thane) or other relative (Anomen, and Alistair if you count Duncan as a proxy father) who requires you to play therapist. Kaiden was refreshingly trauma free but still fell onto the sensitive side of the spectrum.

What I'm after is a badass, I want a Canderous, not a Carth. I want to be taken roughly across the toolbench in the back of the Ebon Hawk instead of having to deal with someone's trust issues.

Zevran was quite fun, but still too pretty to be badass, and too much like Puss from Shrek to take seriously. Garrus - now finally, there was a romance I could relate to. Alistair...just not my type at all.

So yes, please, Bioware, give us red blooded women someone a bit more exciting. A grizzled merc rather than a knightly type, or an assassin who is more scary than adorable.

God, yes.  Transplant Garrus into a Dragon Age human, and let me at him.  Total badass in public, total dork in private. Image IPB

David can write him, please.  Then, when he's finished with DA Garrus, he can sneak over to the Mass Effect 3 writers's cubes and write ME3 Garrus.  That way we'll have something to look forward to other than CALIBRATIONS! Image IPB

Just kidding about that last...sort of. Image IPB
