In my tileset I used Toro's drygrass texture. Some people didn't like
it, so I made a grass texture myself which they could use to override
Toro's grass texture. Now I wonder if I should completely replace Toro's
texture. I still have to tweak the ambient and diffuse values in the
set file so the grass isn't quite so green, but apart from that I like it.
So should I make an override to replace Toro's texture, should I completely
remove it and replace it with my own, or should I stick with Toro's tetxure
and discard my own?
Oh, forgot to mention that in the screenshots the yellow grass is Toro's and
the green one is mine.

Have no clue on the answer as it is really whatever suits you better but the topic title alone threw me for a loop and I loled at it...

I kinda like both looks you're showing there, I guess it depends which feel you want to go for, as the choice will make all the difference to the look of the whole environment... Have you considered seeing what it looks like if you mix both, by giving each one two 'slots' on the texture itself?

My personal opinion leads me to say keep Toro's grass. But that is because your is still too green. If you're good with textures, perhaps mix it up a bit. Maybe throw some of Toro's brown shades in with your greener grass. Just something to break up the monotony of so much green.

Of course, this is just my two cents...

personally i like yours more than toro's one, but like six's said it's all up to you, if you go for some african savana or warm area tileset toro's colour is better, if you're looking for some english green yours its amazing, though i'd darken it a little, i'd consider the ground texture too, to give it similar hue, and if you can use both, that'd be amazing (dunno if its possible)

I think Toro's better suits the ground texture beneath it (kind of a late summer, dry weather look), and yours better suits the ground texture beneath that (which has more of a fresh, green, spring look). Don't know if I'd mix and match.

Thank you all. At least two people are already building areas with this tileset and since my grass looks very different from Toro's they might not like it if their areas look completely different, so I will keep Toro's texture and put mine in an override for those who don't like the dry grass.
Since I couldn't use the ambient and diffuse values Toro used for his grass because it made my grass appear kind of red, I will have to update the override every time I add more tiles to my tileset because it will contain a modified set file.

And now for something completely different:
Can somebody tell me how to add pictures to a post here? I tried the [*img]blah[/img*] (without the *) and that only shows whatever text is between [*img] and [/img*]. Adding file:// or http:// didn't work either.

Maybe you typed the URL wrong? That or the forum is just being a pain again...

This thread is great for learning how to use some parts of the forum, including posting images:

As for the grass, both look very nice, and each would have uses as a builder. Your grass represents a wetter, more lush area, like along a pond, river, or even just in a lower area or deep valley, while Toro's seems more plains and open fields. So, I don't know the answer, obviously. :)

JFK

I have no idea why the pcitures weren't shown. I tried it again and this time it worked.
Here is another picture. The grass is less green now.
