Now I may not know what the question is, but all of these answers look absolutely the same to me and I have no idea what Hawke is going to say.

In ME it really annoyed me that I didn't have completely control over what Shepard says and is my biggest complaint about Mass Effect. Half the time what I chose and what Shepard said was completely different. I say: "AI is dangerous", Shepard says: "I HATE AI, KILL ALL AI !!!" which wasn't at all what I was expecting or wanted to say. I had to replay each dialogue a dozen times so that Shepard finally says what I want him to say.

I'm sure a lot of you want complete control over what Hawke says. A simple way to solve this is to just add something like right click the dialogue option and make a pop-up box come out that says the EXACT words Hawke is going to say. That would make everybody happy (both people that like ME dialogue and people that want full control over what Hawke says). Just copy paste the subtitles into the pop-up box.

I hate how predictable it is. Top - Good, Middle - Neutral, Bottom - ****.

But thank goodness there's no morality meter, makes it really more "what you want him to say" sort of thing.

Agreed.
I remember choosing something in ME2 and she said something I did not want her to say. It was a wtf moment. I want to see the whole sentence! D:

That is a good suggestion but it's past the point for most suggestions I think. I also greatly disliked that in ME, not knowing what Shepard is going to say. But if you look at it another way, shepard is a pre-made character you are driving, da2 is supposed to allow you to create whatever hawke type of human you wish. Not to mention the writers are different...thank heavens, no offense to ME writers but, I don't like punching people unless I click punch or a renegade interrupt.

I say can the wheel entirely...triangles are where it's at.

That's a good point. I'm not sure how much work would go into something like that, but they already typed out responces from NPCs in DA:O, so I don't see how this would be any different.

One other thing about this dialogue system that intrigued me was the emotion that occupanied the snippet of dialogue. Wouldn't that be cool if you could choose a dialogue option, and then be able to CHANGE the tone by pressing a button? That would creat more options, but yes, it would more than likely triple the work in voice-acting. It's probably not going to happen, but it would be interesting.

I like the idea but it would cause problems for the devs. IE If they decided to re-record the voice with slightly different words they would have to also edit the text popups wherever they appear. more work for devs= probably not going to happen. heh

It's not that it shows if it's good or bad, just the intent of the line. The fist icon could mean aggressive.

Honestly, if they do a good enough job of paraphrasing correctly then it shouldn't be a problem. The whole "I want to choose what my character says" is just an illusion anyway, considering that the writers have always given us a set amount of choices as to what we can say (6 is the maximum in DA:O and in DA2). It could be a problem if the paraphrase isn't right, but I'm hoping they do a good job with it. I've heard people have had trouble with ME but I'm not even sure the same people are doing the dialogue this time around. Anyway, I'm sure they'll do their best.

As for the choices in this picture looking the same, I think they're pretty distinct. However, I'd like to point out that, of course they seem vague to us! We're looking at a screenshot with paraphrased responses completely out of context. I'm sure they'll make sense when we actually know what we're talking about.

I'm not sure you understood me. They don't need to re-record anything. Just make a pop-up box that comes when you right click the dialogue options where there is written EXACTLY what Hawke is going to say. Just copy paste the subtitles

While I wholeheartedly support your suggestion - the conversation whell idea really puts me off - options in screenshot  clearly differ: first suggests that Hawke is going to suport your interlocutor in fight against some X, second implies some kind of mediaton between interlocutor and X, and third implies Hawke will join X in fight against interlocutor (something like elves vs werewolfs case). It's not so bad, unless I'm completly mistaken :)
Still, it would be perfect if your suggestion was implemented - somehow i find exact wording  better fitting whole Role Playing idea.

"I'm right beside you" and "Then we fight" are the same thing to you?  If that's the case then reading comprehension is your problem; not the dialogue system.  Again, you're completely missing the icon in the middle of the wheel to tell you the intent.  Your Shepard AI example wouldn't have looked that way to you had you had an icon that said you would be aggressive.

The thing is I would much more enjoy the game if Shepard says badass wise-cracking stuff (the lowest option) than being all goody two shoes (the highest option). The problem is the lowest option is sometimes really mean or evil and isn't what I meant. I don't really care that the NPC who you're talking to will resond the same way in every case (they usually do)

Agreed 100%. This can be done on both PC and consoles.

This idea came up in a few other threads and technically the data is already there for subtitling so shouldn't require to many development resources. Its a nice idea i'm not sure how elegant it is though.

Bump. While I disagree with you about the responses being too similar in that screenshot, I know it's a PITA when the responses are always good/neutral/evil or the protagonist says something I didn't expect.

Come on BioWare you can do better than

1. Warmhearted

2. Indifferent

3. Bloodthirsty meathead

Put the R back into the RPG.

Good idea, I would love to know the exact wording of the reply's if they are going to follow a ME method where it will differ to what you selected.

How about a sentence that's not written at a first grade level? Admittedly this is the only screen shot (with dialog) we've seen, so maybe more of them give you a real idea of what you will say. Instead of three, three word sentences that say basically the same thing.

Also what op sugested (right clicking to see the sentence) could be easily implmented into the console version. Simply hold the anolog stick in the direction of the dialog you want to see for a second, and then a full sentence or the entire line would pop up.

And has anyone noticed that Hawkes hair is brown but his beard is black?

I believe this does happen for some people in real life.

The problem is, I don't want to be 100% good or 100% evil. I want the protagonist to say smartass stuff whenever possible and threaten criminals saying badass things, while still being nice and kind to other people, but doesn't act like a wuss that's sorry for everything

A tool tip type implementation, no need to right click even. Toggle in options > game play.

Well we now know that we will only have 3 options in a conversation and nothing more.

There is 6 spots in all where 3 of them are fluff and investigation options, but only 3 real choice options like in mass effect.
So i have more or less lost all interest in the game

Will we actually be able to use a pointer on the pc version or will it feel super console like Mass Effect were only dialogue wheel controllable during convo? If so, game suck, cancel.

I expect you´ll have to skip the game then, because it´ll suck.
