you know how boring it would be to read a line of dialog, then hear him say the same thing?

you guys dont understand why they DONT do that do you?
No, they clearly don't. But look at it from their point of view.
These are the people who, in ME1 clicked Shepard's 'i'll shut him up!' option and were upset when he punched the lights out of the crazy guy.
They want CONTROL. They do not want surprises, or anything that will interfere with how their character is portrayed to them.
Unvoiced characters give them total control. Voiced characters remove that control and leave you with surprises.
Granted, some are correct that there is sometimes, rarely, a large disconnect between the option presented and what the character onscreen actually says.
But what it really comes down to is control.

The Witcher did it perfectly 'cos what I chose and what Geralt said was basically the same

It's worked in adventure games and The Witcher and nobody ever complained. Monkey Island is considered by many as the funniest game ever and it uses that dialogue system

In Alpha Protocol it was even worse (this review explains it better than I would, the "trousers" part)Seladen wrote...
Id actually perfer an Alpha Protocal approch. Where you pick your stance instead of what you might say. You can pick from angry, happy, aggressive, compassonate, and so. I mean in ME2 when I saw Ash again i picked I missed you on the menu and Shep said "Hey Ash, long time no see!
I was like What the ****?

But, I wouldn't say no to AP. IMO it's a good game, Bugsidian's best yet, just not polished enough. Yahtzee nitpicks almost every game

If you only would read between the lines, you might've understood what Shepard was going to say.BlackyBlack wrote...
In ME it really annoyed me that I didn't have completely control over what Shepard says and is my biggest complaint about Mass Effect. Half the time what I chose and what Shepard said was completely different.
Think with every line of what Shepard might say. If you blindly select something, then it only makes sense that Shepard says things you don't want him to say.
Exaggeration is exaggerated.I say: "AI is dangerous", Shepard says: "I HATE AI, KILL ALL AI !!!" which wasn't at all what I was expecting or wanted to say.
I don't have to repeat what I said earlier here.I had to replay each dialogue a dozen times so that Shepard finally says what I want him to say.

I hate how predictable it is. Top - Good, Middle - Neutral, Bottom - ****.
But thank goodness there's no morality meter, makes it really more "what you want him to say" sort of thing.

Hopefully there will be an option to turn the subtitles off. I just do not see the point of seeing the exact line in a subtitle then spoken on screen.Darth Hawke wrote...

There probably is, but I've seen it, and you don't HAVE to look at it, just select the paraphrased option without looking at it. And besides, it worked fine in Deus Ex 1 & 2, I don't remember anyone complaining about itMorroian wrote...

Especially considering that almost every single adventure game uses that system, including the Monkey Island series which many people consider one of the funniest games ever madeMaria Caliban wrote...

I recall people complaining about it with DX 2.

Why would you call them lazy?Davasar wrote...
They made a few lazy choices, and that's it. It's too late for changes to be made. The suggestion is good, but it isn't going to happen.

I wholeheartedly agree with your idea. It really makes a win-win situation. There's nothing too tough about it.

So the only reason for any of those things is lazyness?Davasar wrote...
Less dialogue, less origins, less ability to change equipment for companions...

I don't think they were being lazy. I think the developers spent valuable time on other aspects of the game that we know nothing about yet. How about you save calling anything the developers have done as "lazy" until you play the game?
