^^^ What the thread title asks.

I'm curious as to whether we'll be seeing some sort of negative consequences for potion chugging this time around....

For those of you who aren't devs, I'm also curious what you'd think about lyrium addiction being worked into the game. Good? Bad? Ugly?

I did find it odd that when you went to do the Paragon of her kind quest, the lyrium that you touched did nothing to you.

since the story is being retold in the form of chapters and going back and forth in time, I don't think it's going to be implemented, you'd have to addict and get clean in the single chapter, or carry the addiction to cure it several years later... don't think they'll make it.

*snicker*  Now I'm picturing Hawke at a Lyrium Addicts Anonymous meeting.  Talking to the guidance councilor about how s/he needs a fix...:o

Not sure how it would work for mage PC's, but I'd like to see it implemented if only for the then wonderful possibility of bringing the templar sons of b's in Kirkwall to their knees by cutting off their lyrium supply

I hope not. It's interesting in theory, but I don't think it would work well in execution.

Well Fallout 3 had a form of addiction did it not? It can be done.

And it sucked considering that the only way to detoxify yourself was at a town clinic or home laboratory. Though I'm sure there must have been some mods for a field detox kit.

Moreover addiction in that game was purely chance based and had nothing to do with your PC's chem consumption habits. Not to mention withdrawal effects occurred immediately after the effect of the chem wore off - which isn't exactly how withdrawal works.

As long as they do it right. The Witcher had a toxicity meter for potion use, but I felt it wasn't really generous.

I hated that in Fallout 3.  The doctor would tell something to the effect of "I thought you had that look."  I always wanted to yell back, "But I only tried it twice!  I swear!"  I had to buy the lab thing just so the doctor would quit giving me the guilt trip.

Please no addictions.

Look at the bright side, you could be living in China or North Korea.

The funny thing is, the doctors always stick you with a "pre-war treatment" syringe. Of all the meds you can find out there, stimpaks, Med-X, you can't find any of that addiction treatment.

I just didn't bother using chems. Unless I had salvage to sell and was over inventory weight capacity, then I'd use a Buffout and/or alcohol to make the trip to town.

The problem is:

Effects only last a couple of minutes and the downside is several hours.  I sold all my chems mainly because they weren't worth the trouble and they addiction was a pain in the ass.

So...no in-game addiction.

Therefore no in-story addiction either, since gameplay and story should at least not contradict each other >< And there goes my plan for hitting the templars where it hurts--da drugs. *sniffle*

Lyirum addiction could be implanted as such:

Each grade of lyium would refill the same amount but if you used the same grade of lyrium consistenly over time it would refill the magic bar less each use, so you would need to use a higher grade potion to get the same refill you were before. If over time you decided to use less potions, your addiction would drop and you could use the lesser grade potions.
