I was wondering if the folks at BioWare were ever planning on releasing the database files for Awakening to the modding public. If it won't happen, I'd at least like to have the reasons. I'd understand if there are complications.

I can see a few problems:
- Allowing anyone to download the database files will allow people to export them and play most of Awakening without purchasing it.
- Not allowing export for these files would defeat the purpose of releasing them, as they then can't be modded.
- Restricting the download for those who have registered Awakening won't work, as someone might release the files for free anyway.
- Releasing the new database may override the modder's old database files.

- Forcing registration to download and Awakening to be installed somehow may fix some of the above problems, but may be difficult to program such an installer. Especially if it also saves old database files.

I'd like an answer or some consideration concerning releasing the Awakening database files from the development team/etc. I'd also appreciate if moderators or forumites that know about other threads about this topic could link to them here, so I can find them more easily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they could just require you to register awakening before you can download it. I don't even think the toolset download comes with the bulk of the game files anyway. (You'd be missing all the art assets for example, as it loads those off your computer)



I'm sure there are easier ways to pirate awakening.
