I was really surprised to hear that we were going to be bringing Dragon Age 2 to this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

As many of you who follow this blog or read our forums know, I am a huge comic book nerd and love getting to come to SDCC as it is a major event with comics, movies, TV, video games and back issues by the score all in one massive event. I was just surprised that the DA2 team were ready to show stuff to the press.

I asked Mike Laidlaw, the Lead Designer for DA2, why we were doing it now and he explained that the whole DA2 team felt that things were stable enough and looked good enough to start to show it off to fans. We’d had the very successful Game Informer issue last month, and now it as time to get out and meet the fans, and the timing with Comic Con worked out great.

So yesterday me, Mike Laidlaw, Dan Lazin, Aidan Scanlan, and Bruce Venne flew down to San Diego to start to set up the DA2 Super Sneek Peek. We are once again in the Gaslamp Hilton for the Electronic Arts game experience.

This year we share the space with the awesome (yet scary as all get out) Dead Space 2. We spent the day setting up the booth, installing the builds, dealing with “tech problems” (dear hotel guests, we did not mean to trigger that fire alarm. Sorry) and getting everything set up for our first day today.

If you are in or around San Diego, you NEED to come down and experience our booth. Since we are only 4 hours away from opening the doors I think it is now safe to say, if you come down, you will have your first chance to get your hands on and PLAY Dragon Age 2.

We  are open from 12-9 Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 12-7 on Sunday. We hope to see you here.

-----------------------------------------------------

So we get screenshots that just about everyone looks at and excuses that they are Pre-Pre-Alpha builds (or we hate them period regardless)

And then we see that they have a "playable" Demo of the game up and running!

Can there really be that much different between what we've seen and what's being showcased as the actual (or close enough to show and let the public play) game?

Hopefully we'll get some post from someone who's able to go and get a hands-on experience , or at least an over the shoulder look (a video clip would ROCK!!!) ;)

So who's volunteering? We NEED Recon NOW!!!!

I really hope that I wind up eating crow about "all" my critical concerns about the graphics and style...I don't think I will be mind you, But I "hope" I'm wrong!!!

did they say that there is a playable demo? I thought it was just going to be pictures and maybe a look at levels

But but but-- if they put out a character creator any time soon, I'll have, like, 20 Hawkes sitting on my PC by March...

A friend of mine is going to be a SDCC. I can ask her if she could take a peek, if none of you guys are going.

Yes do that!

I'm sure it would be nice to get a female first hand perspective :)

I'll be sure to drop her a note! Argh, I was already jealous, but now it's ten times worse.

I'm betting it'll be the desert darkspawn-combatting Flemeth-appearing section we've mostly been shown.

In the stickied thread about SDCC, there have been a few comments from people who have played it. Looks like good news to me. Also, Felicia Day updated her Twitter saying the graphics are awesome. :D

That said, I'd die for some Flemeth action. I want to know if they kept the same VA.

I wonder if they are revealing any of the story in the gameplay...I trust combat to be done right, just want to see if there are any changes to communication

I'm not really sure. It does sound like they're showing a lot of combat, but I'm sure they're showing off the fancy new dialogue wheel, too. I hope so, at least! I wanna hear Hawke!

Any chance you guys will be at Gamescom as well? Because there is a slight chance my boss, who is a BioWare fan as well, will take me drag me down there.

Yeah, at the very least, this demo will let us hear Hawke's voice and see how the dialogue wheel's working out.

From what the devs have said, they are keeping cameras and recording things out of the room. So honestly if someone gets a vid or couple pics up I wanna know how the heck they did it :P

I just want to hear his voice, BioWare! Is that so much to ask? :(

Waiting around the next few weeks for the trailer is going to suck.

Considering the trailer comes out on 8/17/10, which is right before Gamescom on August 18, I'm guessing they'll be at Gamescom and maybe even "officially" reveal gameplay of whatever is at Comic con there... just my guess.
