Also, on the Duncan/DC thing. We have to admit that the DC is the most badass Grey Warden because castless, technically, aren't even allowed to carry weapons yet he WIPES THE FLOOR with the Warrior Caste's greatest, plus most of the guard patrol on duty at the time.

They may not legally be allowed to carry weapons but it's not like they don't totally do anyway so I'm not sure why that's especially impressive.

You don't see how a street thug who's had no combat training at all, and is ultilizing skills he picked up off the street  defeating several people who more or less have been trained from birth to fight is impressive?

Not as impressive as everybody else seems to although do note that I used the word 'especially' as in 'more impressive than what the other origins accomplished.'

'Trained to fight' doesn't always trump 'school of necessity' automatically by any means. Sure, karate blackbelts are trained, but I'd put far more money on the street hoodlum who's been in far more dirty fights. The difference between, say, a nobleman who's been trained in fencing, versus redcoat bayonet brutality.

Discipline and training matter more for organizational fighting (units, maneuver, teamwork) than individual fights.

So replaying as a DC:
Duncan is easily the most awesome in this origin.

Because really there are so many points were he sticks up for you and gives you so much respect, plus he just talks down all those guards at once.

I completely agree. It really does feel like the DC earned their way into the Grey Wardens because they impressed Duncan with their battle prowess. Other origins mostly have a misfortune where Duncan is in the right place at the right time although he "has heard of their battle skills." DC just flat out proves it and the look on Duncan's face during the Provings reveal is just epic, epic, EPIC. He's never even heard of the DC before!

Interesting tidbit: The DN can't be conscripted. I checked the toolset and even though the DN can protest at first, Duncan will sweet-talk the DN into joining the Grey Wardens. But there's no conscripted flag set for the DN as far as I know. (This only matters if you do the Ultimate Sacrifice because Anora or Alistair will mention whether you were conscripted or volunteered to join the GW during the eulogy.)

There is a difference depending on if you are conscripted or not?

The CE I know is conscripted, and the HN can be, as well as the DE, but I was not aware that there was any different dialouge for being conscripted.

Only for the eulogy in US ending as far as I know. Here are the minor line differences -- not a big deal either way:

Alistair gives speech:
(IF: Conscripted_ByDuncan) "She/He didn't choose to be a Grey Warden, but she/he still went to her/his death willingly. How do you properly honor someone like that?"
(IF: Joined_Willingly) "The Grey Wardens couldn't have asked for anyone finer. How do you properly honor someone like that?"

Anora gives speech:
(IF: Conscripted_ByDuncan) "It was not his choice to be a Grey Warden, but still he went to his death willingly. How does one properly honor a man like that?"
(The Joined_Willingly line is same as Alistair's.)

Oh, another small, subtle difference in Alistair's and Anora's dialogue in the eulogy that I've always appreciated is that Alistair focuses on dwarves as people while Anora views them as political alliances. Very in-character for each of them. This is what they say to Gorim when granting the dwarven boon:

Alistair: "That's good. I've spoken with your king. Ferelden will be sending men to help keep the darkspawn at bay. We won't ignore the dwarves any longer."  (VO: solemn)

Anora: "That's good. I've spoken with your king. Ferelden will be sending men to help keep the darkspawn at bay. We won't ignore Orzammar's plight any longer."

Hmmm now I'm curious about what happens with Rica at the end of the game if you side with Harrowmont. I know if you side with Bhelen she shows up as "ambassador."

IIRC, she's still an ambassador. I think the conversation in the end is the same overall, but I know the following are Harrowmont specific lines. (I don't have the game/toolset installed anymore so I am just copying and pasting older stuff.)

Rica: A Grey Warden. And now a hero, too? A bit different from the slums, hmm? (VO: amused)
(IF: Harrowmont_King) PC: Sorry I got your husband killed.
Rica: Bah, it worked out just fine. My son will be the Aeducan heir, and I don't have a husband to boss me around. I should thank you. (VO: She's saying "don't worry about it!" -- the player actually did her a favor, weirdly)
Rica: Mother swore off drinking when she heard about what you did. She's been sober ever since. And as ill as a fellcat in water.

Edit: Oh, wait, did you mean the funeral part? She's there as the GW's sister, not really as an ambassdor, reegardless of who is on the throne.

what the hell is a fellcat? Maybe I should draw one. I use it a lot on DDW, I get Missa to say it a lot, as I like the little imagery it triggers. "Edgy as a fellcat," etc.

in my head they're extinct, anyway. The nobles hunted them to their deaths >.>

And I pictured a cat that prefers the dark and lives off of nugs, maybe a mountain lion? I know some snow leopards are used to mountain terrain also.

I think it is the cats native to Par Vollen. The ones that hunt poo-flinging monkeys.

Edit: Or was it Seheron?

Sten mentions spotted cats that eat an infortunate crow assassin:

───────
Sten: I knew one of your countrymen once, elf.

Zevran: Oh? Have you been to Antiva, then?

Sten: No. Until I came to Ferelden, I had never left the islands. She came to Seheron twice a year with the traders who bought spices from the northern jungle. Only she among the traders would speak to the antaam. Questions about the rainforest, its depths, and the things to be seen there. We humored her. She was... an unfortunate soul.

Zevran: Unfortunate in what way?

Sten: She was a Crow, as you were. Sent to assassinate the kithshoks, leaders of the army of Seheron, for the Tevinter Imperium. We knew this, and pitied her.

Zevran: I'm surprised you did not simply slay her.

Sten: There was no need. Her questions were meant to show her the way through the jungle towards our fortifications. And so one day, she snuck into the jungle to find her target. We found the pieces of her body in a tree, where the spotted cats kept them for later. We had never told her that our kithshoks were the ones who negotiated all the trades at the port.

Zevran: Then she was a fool. That's not very sympathetic, I'm afraid.

Sten: It was her ignorance we pitied, not her mistake. She believe we hoarded things we cared for as her own people do. We were sorry for her, that she thought only some people were important.

I really wish there had been some dialouge for dwarves who just got onto the surface.

Because I can only imagine how hard it would be to go from living inside all you life to suddenly being outside.

Aunn ended up stopping and just staring at the sun until Duncan realized what she was doing and told her to stop it.  But she will never, ever admit to that and it's not like there are any living witnesses. Image IPB
