Too bad you can't do the same with Alistair. My bratty noble that I'll make (one day) will be pissed off at the sudden life style change.

I can never do that seriously though.

Gorim (Steve Blum) is just to awsome to talk down to, it makes little sense for him to treat you like a friend and then for you to assume the role of a sterotypical noble on him.

Has anyone actually played a Bratty Noble in the Dwarf Noble origin?

I just tried that and boy, oh boy was it mean, I felt bad for all the people who I threatened, but talking through Gorim was just plain awsome.

I loved it. Watching the little people scurry about was marvelous fun . . .

Up until the point he got tossed into the Deep roads without a trial for a crime he didn't commit.
He's a jerk but he still likes his family. The whole "Dad not giving a !%@#" thing hit him kind of hard.

Poor poor Aeducans. They can never catch a break.

This man promptly escaped from a genlock-infested tunnel to the Grey Warden milita force. Today, still wanted by House Aeducan, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem...if no one else can  help...and if you can find him...maybe you can hire...The Warden.

My Sunday afternoon lineup used to be the A-Team, Airwolf and MacGuyver. When you're 10-12, they're just awesome action shows.

I don't remember Airwolf, but definitely A-Team and MacGuyver. I loved the A-Team so much. I was really worried that the movie would be a flop like the Dukes of Hazard remake, but it was just pure fun. I definitely plan on owning it on DVD when it comes out. I'm most surprised and disappointed by the lack of an A-Team van for Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars. I had really wanted one of those, but considering what happened to the van in the movie, I guess it makes sense.

I had often amused myself with the idea of making an artistic pun of Aeducans being the A-Team and the Broscas being the B-Team, but I didn't think anyone would get/appreciate the joke being stretched that far. =p

I have a DN Origin question: helping Lord Dace. Is there really a "perfect" way to go about doing it? It doesn't have any long-term consequences either, does it?

My first time through I went with Lady Helmi and surprised him when he asked the question, and all he said was "Yep you pwned me, I won't think of you as such a n00b next time. kthxbai" then disappeared. But my 2nd time through I went back to confront him, and next thing I know it's HOLY SH*T PROVING GROUNDS.

I thought slaughtering the Dace heir would lead me to problems with Lady Dace later on when I returned, but everyone seems to have conveniently forgotten...

Yeah, it's never mentioned again. The House Dace situation is really weird, though. In the DN origin Ronus Dace is called the head of House Dace and his son Mandar is the heir. In the game, Lady Dace is the deshyr but she defers to her father since he made the deal with Harrowmont on behalf of House Dace which leads me to believe that he's the head of the House.

The only way to really reconcile this huge difference in a year is to assume that in the case that you yourself don't kill Mandar someone else kills him (if you fight the Proving Lords Bemot and Meino are glad Mandar's dead since he was such an asset to his House and according to the toolset if the option to just beat him but not kill him actually triggered, they were wishing him dead), either in a Proving or otherwise. Seeing how distraught Ronus gets at his sons death, particularly if his scheming was involved and given that he's already been disgraced by that disastrous Surfacer expedition he's trying to bring Surface dwarves back into the fold to repay, he likely steps down from his position. As he has no daughters and Mandar is revealed to be his only son, the position of head of the House passes to Anwer who chooses his daughter as deshyr. It's possible she was already a deshyr but given Ronus' expressed interest in politics and the fact he's not really all that old, I doubt it.

What exactly do they have to whine about? "Oh, you shouldn't draw dwarves because they're short and not as awesome as Cousland/Tabris/Mahariel/whatever."? I don'y get why people would whine about someone drawing dwarves instead of humans or elves. That's dumb:mellow:

I really don't know. This has come up in the Alistair thread a few times, too, where I've seen dwarf discussion get discouraged. (This was a while back and I don't even remember who made the comments -- just making a point, that's all.)  I understand if we get carried away talking about origins which has nothing to do with Alistair, but one or two didn't really seem to appreciate Alistair + dwarf romances. Maaaaaybe the human + Alistair seems ideal and dwarves appear to be poaching their men rather than stick with their own? I really don't know. It surprises me when people care enough about fictional characters to pee in other people's Wheaties.

Another thing that I'm not fully aware of is what type of people gravitate toward dwarves. I used to make fun of elves a lot in WoW mainly because a lot of the d00ds flocked to that race. Maybe dwarven players are just annoying and others react accordingly. =p

I dont get the Dwarf Hate.

Honestly the only thing off is the height thing, but its not wierd to me since my dad is a foot and half taller than my mom.
I guess some people are just jealous about all the awsome that is dwarves.

You know, that's a really good question...

I hypothesize that it requires a certain level of awesomeness that some people just can't reach. Posted Image

It's not the height issue that gets to me, it's the fact that it seems like a waste and rather heartless to go through a romance and possibly fall in love just to end up dumping the non-dwarf because they're just not going to fit in well in Orzammar and I like that city more than them.

Not a full game but I've done the Origin like that (to everyone's great surprisePosted Image). It made me feel bad for Bhelen, actually, seeing what he had to put up with.

I've played the spoiled brat Sereda to about Redcliffe (second treaty in this playthrough) but I ultimately felt worse for Trian.  He needed a hug after what Lady Aeducan said to him, and about him.  She was so relentless!

Its not a problem since I did a romanceless run through for one dwarf noble, but my other noble and commenor both showed up said bye, and then left.

Honestly while Orzamar is cool my Noble was glad Bhelen was in power, and my commenor said bye to his sister and left as well. I am not to attached to it to stay there after I leave.

And yes my second noble was the type who went:
"Grrr damn you BHelen!... oh look a tree! and whats the big bright thing in the sky! I like it up here!"

I think many people don't have an issue with dwarves, they have an issue with dwarf ROMANCE. For this we have Tolkien to thank - most people think of dwarves as short, bearded, and Scottish. Period. The women all have beards and all sound like John Rhys Davies. (There's even a mod that makes Oghren look more 'Tolkien dwarf'.)

Which is why people simply can't conceive of a pretty female dwarf. Case in point: when a friend of mine looked at soignee's Missa, he actually went "That's a DWARF? Really?" <_<

I think it was the name-calling to his face.  "Trian, I'll do what I want, when I want!  You're an ass!  Everyone likes me so much!"  She would never follow through on her distaste for him, but she was a pain in the ass to her older brother.  Though, in retrospect, Bhelen is very smart and would also absolutely loathe little Sereda.

A slightly delusional character I could never finish because she was so unrealistic :(  Also, I feel so bad every time I read Trian's journal codex...I think this contributes every time I play!

Though I don't play dwarves myself, I for one am always happy to see Alistair enjoying some women who've got something to grab onto.  <3

It's an interesting question why people prefer the races they do.  I've always been an elf, also in Tolkien roleplay.  Just like the lore I guess, I don't think it's a personality thing, since I know others who dig elves who are very different from me.

As for what people do with their artistic talents, that's probably just envy.  If I could draw beautiful Mahariel stuff on my own, I'd do it, but as it is I have to feed off others' talent vicariously.

We probably have Tolkien/Peter Jackson to thank as well. Elves = Hugo Weaving = awesome. Oh, and the d00ds? They just all saw that WoW ad that opens with a blood elf in a bikini...

I've seen the Lord of the Rings movies but I don't know much else about Tolkein or non-DA dwarves so I'm reasonably free of those kinds of stereotypes.

@ Giggles: Well that would make it easier to romance someone. Mine doesn't like the Surface. At all.
