Indeed, but surely a nauseating romance between npc's is better dynamic than a party just waiting for the PC to click their fingers?

...have you ever played in a party with Aerie and Haer'Dalis?  Not only is it nauseating, it's downright DISRUPTIVE.  Their stupid banter comes up at the worst times, not to mention how it messes with any PCs attempting to romance Aerie (though why anyone would want the insufferable harpy is completely beyond my comprehension).

If there are NPC/NPC romances, a few simple things could make them a lot less annoying.

• Don't upstage the PC.  Yeah I'm a selfish prat, but there is kind of a main character.
• No inter-NPC romances involving characters that the PC could romance.  It just gets messy and obnoxious.
• Keep it short, simple, and sweet.  A subplot is cute.  A "look at Aerie and Haer'Dalis being nauseating every 30 minutes" is decidedly not.

I agree on all 3 points.  It's why I think Bethany is the best choice for having an NPC romance.  The lucky guy that romances her (or girl) will have to be written to be attracted to Bethany over fem Hawke or won't be attracted to fem Hawke at all.  This way the romance won't be meddled with or wrecked by having your PC steal Bethany's LI.

I hope they have a system where she interferes with Hawke's romance. Something like a little sister who is overprotective of her older brother, well, brother complex if you will.

Would be definitely interesting when you have Bethany and say Isabela(girl you are pursuing) in the same party and having those bickering moments.

Isabela to Hawke: So Darling where...
Bethany: Dont talk to brother like you're his wife!
