Threesome.

Sisters fool around all the time. Besides you can have a threesome without 2 of the people actually having sex together.

you are sick man..

I'm not sure I'd agree with the first part, but the second part is technically true. It's just a matter of whether they would be comfortable in that situation.

Okay, yeah, on topic:

1. Really hate inter-party romances that concern one of my romantic interests.

2. Would like to be able to fall in love with Bethany's boyfriend and have it be unrequited (there is so much you can do with that).

3. Would like to play the part of protective sibling.

There was a hint of an inter-npc relationship in Awakenings as well. I never really noticed it develop. What did people think of the implementation on that occasion?

You mean Velanna and Nathaniel? It was okay. Neither were my romantic interests, so it didn't bug me. There were plenty of party banters, so having some banter that was romantic between them didn't bother me at all. I wouldn't have minded being able to ask about their relationship/manipulate it/ruin it if I so desired.

The thing is, you can get a very strong party social dynamic without romance.  It's called friendship, and it WORKS.  It worked just fine in KOTOR and KOTOR II--though in the sequel it was less friendship and more who wanted to kill each other the least.  It worked fine with the inter-party banter in DA:O.  You don't need a complicating romance to have compelling inter-party relationships.

I wouldn't necessarily require romances, anything beyond banter is a good thing in my book. But bascially all we've gotten so far is, everyone's best buddies with or hates the player, and thats it. They may express a line or two about them others in a banter exchange here and there, but there's nothing beyond that. I'd like to see npcs evolve their relationships with the other npcs, not just with the player. I mean sure, we're the hero but its a group of people. This isnt high school where everyone hangs around the popular kid.

No one touches my sister. IRL or in game.

1. Could have an intriging affect on approval ratings, as well as provide a challenge, at the end of the day the mechanics of the game will allow eventual conclusion to players will, but deternining through interaction could be quite the challenge.
2.  Unrequited could work well for any LI, and would be an unprecedented turn as far as I am aware of in any game.
3.  This would be good.

Are you talking about Velanna and Nathaniel?  I haven't played Awakenings yet with my own Warden, though I did hang around some while my friend played hers.  Given that she wanted to romance Nathaniel...yeah, there was a lot of screaming at Velanna going on from her :pinched:

The nice thing with that was that it was a subplot.  One that you could just turn off the sound for if you so chose.  And it didn't involve one of the PC's romance interests...though based on all the Nathaniel love, it might as well have done.

Umm...ok, maybe my standards are just lower, but the huge amounts of banter in DA:O and even DA:A did a pretty good job of establishing the relationships between party members, and it even developed them.  Velanna and Nathaniel flirted and eventually stopped hating each other.  Shale and Sten bonded over how much they hate humans.  Alistair and Morrigan went from hating each other to REALLY hating each other

Actually thinking about this some more, I have always found that conflict makes for more interesting banter. I will always try and assemble the most dysfunctional party.

1. Normally, anything BioWare does I'm :o so okay with, but this? This I'd really, really hate. I've explained a few times why...the reason mostly being because it always feels as if the LI doesn't really love you but your ability to manipulate his emotions--whereas the third character doesn't need to "try" the way I do to land him/her.

2. I don't recall being able to do this either...at least, in a concrete way that isn't "I'm pining after Gorim". In a way where you can actually set up a "unrequited love" flag. I'd like to be able to handle it in multiple ways...try and seduce him (perhaps even successfully--though the romance would never work out), be silent about your affection, be a Scarlett O'Hara...and so on. It'd be great to have a LI that can notice this, and have that affect your relationship. Gawd. So. Much. Potential.

3. :wizard:

Yes, and you got to hear/see this only if you brought both of them with you at all times to trigger the proper banter. Otherwise any sort of progression wouldn't have happened.

You know, the only place I can recall having something like this was in Domi's Kivan NPC mods for the Baldur's Gate series.  It added extra dialogue for Kivan in BG1, and added him as a semi-romanceable NPC to BG2.  Of course, you could land him in the end if you really persevered, but for the better part of BG1 and BG2, it was almost entirely unrequited, and it had a very interesting relationship dynamic.  Not the healthiest, but an interesting one.

Was that the guy with the dead wife you could sacrifice yourself for to reincarnate or whatever...?

Yeah, that's what I mean. Honestly, if it were my sister's boyfriend I wouldn't want to romance him, just because if he ended up with me that just tells me what kind of douchebag guy he really is.

Being able to pine--really pine, not mention it once or twice when you see the guy, but have it affect other relationships would be an incredible story device. You can have a LI that reacts to this, a sister that reacts to this, the actual guy...so much better than having to glare at an NPC making moves on m' man.

Back to Bethany there's so much scope for a character that may have a very strong and detailed connection to the PC.

Perhaps their relationship is antagonistic to begin with, Hawke being absent if she is sent to the circle or one of adoration if Hawke has saved her from the circle drucgery, or has perhaps stole her away from a comfortable life with fellow mages?

I think a relationship between a sibling and an NPC could offer some interesting RP opportunities for the player and hope that at least this time Bioware goes down this road.

As long as I don't have to play matchmaker, sounds good to me.
