Do want, it would be soo fun to play as an over-protective big brother.
"Keep your hands off my sister!!!" *punch in face*

"The Protector of Innocence" must be a weapon: Instant kills those who wish to romance bethany.

Hmm I think poor Bethany is going to end up lonely, the BroHawkes are going to punch out every suitor and the SisHawkes are only going to let her have their unwanted scraps or hand me downs.

Perhaps they can make this a rune, too. So you during your ten year travels will be able to defend Bethanys innocence with the favourite weapon of your choise, without beeing stuck with a low- tier weapon!

Aye, Bethany seems to be doomed to die a neglected virgin!

I personally think Bethany should have romance options available to her (not Hawke, based on other threads!) I think that some guys should be good for Bethany, and others bad. Maybe the wrong man leads Bethany to get killed. So, if you are a protective sibling, you can prevent Bethany from making bad decisions. But if you're too overprotective, Bethany leaves the party to do what she wants. So you need to have a fine balance.

I have to admit, that sort of mini-game might rub me the wrong way.  As if I'm a parent (rather than a sibling) who is monitoring someone else's love life.  I mean, it if was obvious that Bethany's love interest was toxic, I'd discuss it with her, but I wouldn't want to get involved any further than that.

That's fair. Since I'm not directly involved in Bethany's romance I'd just find it enjoyable for it to have a deeper meaning other than what ends up in Bethany's epilogue line. I knew girls who ran away from home growing up to be with their boyfriends their parents disapproved of. I wouldn't want to traverse into the territory of Bethany's LI actually harming her, but maybe an unfortunate consequence - like a Crow, or overhearing something she shouldn't have overheard, etc.

I also think Hawke should be able to Intimidate Bethany's Love Interests if he gets a bad vibe so they back off, as a less dramatic storyline development.

Well being an overprotective Big brother in real life I would love to do that in game. >=)

Have the devs actually confirmed that Hawke is, in fact, Bethany's *older* sibling in the first place? If not, then for all we know it could be the other way around. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't be a protective sibling, even though I, personally, sorta-kinda disagree with that and think it's infantalizing that might not necessarily be warranted.*

*At least, when it comes to overseeing someone's personal life.  I get wanting to protecting a family member from the darkspawn, although since Bethany's a mage, she's hardly helpless and I'd imagine that protection would be mutual.

Well, it would be funny if it turns out she is actually your older, overprotective sister

Hehe, yeah, it would, at least considering some of the assumptions people are making.Posted Image

Well if she is an older sister I hope her behaviour does not become a rehash of Wynne, being offered lifestyle advice by a woman who spent most of her life locked up in a tower.

This is actually a really good idea. Serious if you want it and comedy gold at times when you get over protective!

It would be fun to bring two NPCs together. As long as they were actually good for each other.

Maybe I'm a horrible person, and I want two of my party members in a destructive, unhealthy relationship with each other.

But what if Lady Hawke falls in love with Bethany's boyfriend? What then?

Yeah,
it sounds great, but this worries me, too. There are even women who
wanted to get it on with Zaeed (must be the British accent) and
Haer'Dalis and such. How are you going to create a male character that
doesn't cause at least a few women to nerdrage after the fact over the
fact that he wanted Bethany instead of LadyHawke and they didn't like
the other options? At best, a small minority are depressed. At worst,
40-50% of your fan base is depressed. I mean, I sure did lament about
Bann Teagan's unromanceableness. How do you make a character appealing
enough to romance Bethany, and yet not so appealing that he attracts a
portion of your fan base more than the other characters? That's gotta
be hard.

Plus, I don't know if I want them to dedicate
resources to content like that... the Aerie/Haer'Dalis thing was
interesting enough, if sickeningly sweet, but I'd rather have another
NPC available for the PC than just to watch something like that happen.
I'd rather it be off-screen anyway, and have Bethany just mention she
thought someone was cute, as long as it makes sense. But then, over a
ten year period, there should be plenty of opportunities for her to
slowly fall for some minstrel we keep bumping into. That might be nice.
They should totally give you the chance to be overprotective and force
her to sneak around, though.

The less non-interactive content there is, the better. And if they gave you too much influence over Bethany's
romance, it would feel like metagaming. It should be unobtrusive,
novel-style, like just seeing them walking around or talking together
at camp, and not necessarily involve the main character much.

Can't always have what you want. It's immersive and more realistic. I wanted to be Alistair's queen, as an elf mage, but couldn't for various reasons. That was great. That's part of what makes the game fun. You can choose to flirt with someone, or choose not to flirt with someone, but they won't necessarily oblige. Maybe if you play your cards right, you can take the LI that both you and Bethany are after, but maybe you can fail as well. There are choices, but you're not God. Did you complain because you didn't have control over if the Archdemon started the Blight in DAO?

I've mentioned this before, but being an older sibling doesn't mean you *must* offer advice for life to your younger siblings anymore than it means you must be overly protective of them.  Depending on personality, the older sibling could actually be less mature and more in need of guidance than the younger one.

Your point about Wynne is kinda true and funny though, heh.

I've figured it out. Bethany will have an inter-party romance with one of your male companions. Bethany will die, horribly. The male companion will become a LI in DA3 and will constantly compare your female PC to his lost Bethany. Oh, the sweet irony!!
