Please no. Out of the many unbelievable things on Star Trek, the fact that species who evolved on different planets could have kids was by far the worst for me. In fact, it violates the basic definition of a species-- Vulcans are technically ****** Sapiens if they can have viable children with other ****** Sapiens. Period. Besides, a human shares 94% of its DNA with a chimpanzee and obviously cannot reproduce with one. The idea of us sharing so much genetic material with a species from another solar system is . . . I don't even know.
Mass Effect dealt with this pretty elegantly by allowing Asari to mate with other species but by specifically explaining how they are not sharing DNA in the traditional sense and that the child will always be Asari. There has been no such explanation about the Quarians and they should not try and shoehorn something like that in at this stage of the franchise.
vulcans are not homospaiens... humans and vulcans have entirely different dna make up... and evolved from different species... a vulcan's blood is green, human's red... vulcans could have evolved from foxes/canine, humans evolved from chimps/simian...
just because they look alike doesn't mean they're anything alike... they're not human/******-sapiens. they're totally alien with each other's genetics...
but instead of callimg someone a ****** sapien, you can call them SENTIENT ... if they communicate, talk, think, have boobs, etc ... = sentient... humans (****** sapiens) are sentient... aswell as vulcans, and qaurians in this sense...
kligons, humans, vulcans, asari's, qaurians, etc are all sentient, and probably can mate with one another (with similar reproduction methods)
