That's just
sickening. We all know the reason why Tali and Shepard can't have kids
so let's all grow up and move from this topic. Okay?
Why? this topic is hilarious.

Thanks Angj57, this is hard to explain to those who do not know about Biology very much. It is frustrating.angj57 wrote...
The Mass Effect writers, who actually DO seem to have some concept of anatomy and biology, have told us a THOUSAND times that Asari do not reproduce conventionally. THREE different Asari characters and the CODEX have each told us that, when Asari reproduce, they don't accept DNA from the father, they simply use their mate to randomize their own DNA. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I am sure that they have made this so clear simply to avoid the problems we have been talking about.

I suggest everyone who thinks this is possible to take a basic biology course. Because unless Shepard adopts, Tali, Garrus, and Thane (will you can adopt Kolyat!) aren't having kids.

Am I trying to hard to explain this to these people or what? Some of these people seem to scare me on what the next generation is like. I blame movies and shows that do not try to be bound in scientific facts.Sajuro wrote...

http://en.wikipedia....rious_organisms
As you can see, even on Earth, species can have radically different numbers of chromosomes, ranging from 1 to almost 200. If these numbers don't match up, you have no hope of producing a child. For instance, a horse has 64 and a donkey has 62. The two can produce a mule, which has 63, but a mule is infertile and incapable of breeding with other mules, so a mule is not a species.
Even if an alien species evolved in an almost identical manner as humans-- i.e. they reproduce sexually, with the same sexual organs, and system of chromosomes-- which is kind of hard to believe in the first place, the odds of them having the exact same chromosome number as humans is astronomically low. For instance, human gender is determined by 2 sex chromosomes-- you are either XX or XY. In other species, gender is determined, for instance, by XXY or XXXX. It would be impossible for these two species to breed. This has NOTHING to do with sentient/non-sentient or even how similar they look-- as I pointed out a horse and donkey look a lot alike, sharing an absurd amount of DNA but a mule is not viable. A chimp is as close to a human as another species can be (94% genetic similarity, 48 chromosomes vs 46) but cannot reproduce with one.
The Mass Effect writers worked really hard with the Asari to make them capable of mating with you without violating this idea. They clearly care about scientific plausibility with respect to this, at least. It's not going to happen. And with that, I exit this discussion, as I hope to have better things to do with my life than explain 9th grade biology concepts on a video game forum.

I know that you are joking around, but please obviously some people would believe it.
Edit: What scares me is that this game is rated M, if Adults do not know about basic biology....we are screwed (metaphorically speaking).

Anyone who chose the romance story with Tali in Mass Effect 2 should have an idea of what I'm talking about here. (Spoiler Alert) After you beat Mass Effect 2 and destroy the Collector Base, you can go back and talk to everyone and they can share what they thought about the mission. If you chose Tali to be your romance option in Mass Effect 2, she says she has a fever, a nasty cough, and some substance coming from her sinuses. It may just be that quarians have weak immune systems, but I have a feeling that it might be morning sickness and that Tali may be pregnant. That would really get you going in Mass Effect 3. Just think about it before writing me hate mail.

Shep didn't pull out? Serves him right. And shame on Tali for not being on the pill, stupid girl. Do they not have Afterschool Specials in the Migrant Fleet?!
This made me laugh.
Also, the ME universe is run by writers who can basically use science or technology to do what ever they want in the story. In the mass effect universe, science is the wizard. Brought shep back to life, SCIENCE! Move ships across the galaxy in a second, SCIENCE! Lift crates with your mind, SCIENCE! As long as they make it sound like it makes sense, it works for me.
So if they wanted to make one of the non human LI's (other than the asari) have a baby, they could just say it was an embryo implanted and mixed with DNA from both partners.
