Why? There are 3 million iPad owners and there will be many more. Why carry a laptop with a 4 hour battery life when I can use a smaller iPad with 10+ hours? When I travel I prefer the iPad and I would like to be able to post here like I could in the older forum.
The quick reply works fine, but the text box used for new posts isn't recognized as a text box. I imagine it is a malformed HTML issue.

I'll note this to the PTB in the moderator's forums. This is pretty wierd. And if you can load NWN2 on a Mac, I'm guessing it's just as easy to load it in an iPad, judging by this topic.
I'll pass this on.

You can't run NWN2 on an iPad. The iPad uses Apple iOS, not Mac OS X or Windows. The issue in this case is the forums, not the game. The old Bioware forums worked on the iPad but the new one doesn't.
Thanks for directing this to the appropriate forum folks. Gives them an excuse to buy an iPad as well

Remember folks! Post sober while at your PC workstations, not drunk on the sofa or on your phone while driving your car!

I fail to see the humor in these replies. The forums should work on any standards based web client. That includes the safari web browser on the ipad and iPhone. I appreciate dno's reply, but the others are either myopic or childish. It is in the best interest of the NWN community that these new forums be usable by everyone from all popular web clients.

Incidentally, I have also confirmed that the "standard form" doesn't work on the iPhone either. On both the iPad and iPhone the text box and the text above and below it overrun the right edge of the web page. This is normally an indication of malformed html and in this case prevents the text box from being recognized as an entry box by the web client.

I'm not familiar enough with the iPad, but I can read and post with Safari on my Mac Book. Though I do understand the different OS and all that, but therein may lie the culprit.
I suspect the issue may be the BB Code support toolbar in the forums when using the full editor, although that does work with the most common browsers Such as IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari, on various other OS platforms just to name a few.
So the question would be why not the iPad? I can only suggest the iPad cannot deal the BB Code toolbar. You may want to try other sites having a similar toolbar in the text editing box and see if you get the same or similar results.

I don't believe it is the text box because the left edges of the text above the text box, which includes the title of the thread, and the text below, which includes the smilies, are all at the center of the page and then extend beyond the right edge of the page. The text box does as well which indicates to me that the entire element that contains all of these sub elements is not defined correctly. It may be that other browsers are more forgiving of malformed HTML, or it could be that the iPhone and iPad version of safari does not interpret the HTML that is being used properly. It seems like this should be a very easy thing for the forum developers to look into. Hopefully they will do so. Until then only the quick reply works with these devices.

Sheesh...childish I get, I'm ok with childish...but myopic? While I understand your angst about the issue, and I agree 100% with you, I think you need to loosen up a bit. Humor is what brings us together...oh wait...that's marriage.
Besides, I'm betting the fault lies with Apple's code. There are tons of places on the web where things don't work right on the iPhone and the iPad's browser isn't much different.

iPads and iPhones do not support the contenteditable attribute which is used by many rich text editors. Here's a little demo - http://html5demos.com/contenteditable.

Looks like it may be more an Apple issue rather than poorly or incorrectly implemented HTML based on robertarris' info. I would strongly suggest trying the site link he provided to test your iPad on. If you can or cannot edit that text box and let us know your findings.

The contenteditable tag is a problem but I do not know if it is the cause of the problem I am describing. I'm not guessing at a cause, I am just reporting an issue.
The problem I'm reporting is that the entire element, not just the text box, runs off the right side of the screen, ignoring the right margin. That is a visual problem. It is also a problem that the text box isn't recognized. Since I am not familiar with the elements they have used I cannot say whether these are two separate problem or two related problems.
I'm not trying to solve the problem though, I'm just reporting it.

In that case, the proper place to report web site issues would be the Social.bioware.com Site Help forum.

If you can't run the toolset on it, it's redundant technology. ;-)
Actually my friend has an iPad and they're pretty cool, just completely not suitable for my purposes.

My suggestion is to use a different browser. This often can be the difference for portable devices of all operating systems/makes.
Since the iOS 5 upgraded Safari worked you can disregard my comment this time. However in the future I would first try the other browser (F.Fox, Opera Mini, ect). This will solve many problems on may different sites for you. You may also end up liking the 3rd party browser better.

Incidentally, while the standard form indeed does not work by default on my iPhone, if you select bbcode you can click the screen to locate the cursor in it (there is no cursor normally in iPhone). Once you do that you can post.

Also, if you have an iPad, you should be playing GemRB, not posting in forums!
