At least they did come up with a different name... different look... different lore, different shapes and sizes... is it just me or did they come up with something COMPLETELY different.
I dunno 'bout you but I'm pretty darn sick of D&D. The real-world allusions of the Dragon Age universe are feckin LIGHT-YEARS from the comfort zone of classic D&D.

even if they are like orcs, it doesn't matter. generic high fantasy or not (in DAs case rather NOT) i dont expect someone who actually didn't play part one to tell me something about part 2. FAIL.

...by that logic any bad guy fills the same niche as orcs. Vorchas are just orcs in space? ****s are just orcs in WWII?

My hope is that it is all a misunderstanding, and that DA2 retains SOME of the subtleties in conversation that made DA:O interesting and fun to play through.

Okay... perhaps the writer of that article is just an imbecile, but I would be GREATLY disappointed if we were limited to 3 dialog choices only, with the choices being "good," "nasty," and "badass."

Read the developer posts, you can do this by clicking the Bioware button next to the thread title on the forum. Or click here. The writer is indeed an imbecile.

No idea that using the short form for members of the NSDAP would get scrubbed.

That's part of it, though there's other things as well-- such as eliminating the shuffle-shuffle-step thing in DAO where your characters had to get into position before they could attack. There is more situational awareness now with regards to where your character is in relation to the target. The other stuff I imagine we will elaborate on at length, in time.Onyx Jaguar wrote...

I'm not liking only having three dialog choices one of my favorite things in dragon age origins was being able to ask like 20 questions to somebody and choose what I want to say but three I mean come on bioware please fix this I know you have alot of time before it comes out.
Again, IGN got this wrong.

Nationalsozialist... DAP... why isn't that censured?
What a mindless attempt at controlling language, like that's gonna make history go away. Reminds me of some of these politicians who speak of global warming like it's a matter of faith or religion.

By any means, PM me, as I imgaine it might contain spoilers, and should not be mentioned on "General Discussion".

You might ask 20 questions but only as part of a chain of 5 selections > NPC Reponse > 5 selection > NPC response. There's nothing in the wheel thast stops that same chain from happening.

And 'lo comes the bit**ing! Sweet goddamned Jesus, I can't read anything here without reading a thread full of people going, "DRAGON EFFECT BOO" "THIS GAME WILL SUCK, BUT I'M GOING TO SIT AROUND HERE ALL DAY COMPLAINING ANYWAY!"
You guys are the biggest chunk of negative freaking nancies I've ever seen out of a Blizzard forum. It's a game! Buy it or don't! Go tabletop if you're too much of an RPG purist.
If this community were representative of my actual social circle, I'd have jumped off a bridge years ago.
Heaven forbid people like a game and worry its sequel will change too much and be worse. Cause that has NEVER happened before right? Oh wait...
Heaven forbid people understand the universe does not revolve around their personal tastes and that dumping on every. single. bit. of news that comes out by filling threads up with nothing but repetitive complaining is in poor taste and will not get you what you want.
A sequel to a very well received and selling game would be expected to have the same level of production and gameplay across the board.
Whoever came up with the thought that to keep the game popular they needed to "change" almost every aspect that made the original a success is an idiot. Change for change's sake is a waste and an unnecessary risk of alienating the already establish fan base from before.
The game has been rushed out giving rise to the possibility that it will be less polished and generic than the first.
The graphics are simplified and just plain ugly compared to the original. I don't believe that the screens they're showing are far from what will be the finished product. I think they're dead on...they wouldn't be showing them off to promote the game if they weren't.
The changes to dialog choices are again simplified (little face icon for the ADHD reading and comprehending impaired)
A more visceral combat mechanic moving more towards a Hack & Slash game than the strategic RPG experience of the first.
And the list of changes goes on...
Did DAO have room for improvement, certainly!
Did the series need a complete make over and drastic changes to core gameplay principles and mechanics? I think many/most? of the fans of the first will say no.
So sorry to burst your Kool Aid bubble, but there are many reasons for fans of the original game to be concerned.
People will continue to do so with the hope of sparking some discussion and reflection within the ranks at Bioware that are calling the shots and making what we believe are poor decisions for the IP.
We are the ones who will decide whether to buy the game or not.
It's in their best interest to listen when a large majority of fans are not happy with needlessly changed styles, designs and gameplay.
I quite enjoy the Dragon Age IP and world setting, I want every game that is released as such to be a success for them and a joy for us fans to play.
What we've been told and shone thus far seems to be anything but...
There are plenty of reasons for concern about where this game is heading.
