I called it back on page 9:

Thanks for the clarification, but I'm expecting another five pages of
"there will only be three options and conversations have been dumbed
down and simplified!" This forum is so depressing sometimes -- it's like
half the people in this thread just decided to ignore the comments from
developers that there will be more than three options because they got
in the way of being melodramatic.

Seriously people, there are devs in this very thread saying that the "three options, simplified dialogue" thing is wrong. This is getting ridiculous.

Yeah in the case of ME, and really any game, removing inventory is the best thing under the sun. Jade Empire and ME2 have far and away the best inventory systems of any Bioware games.

Again, finding treasure is cool. Collecting trash isn't and 99% of ME and DAO's "looting" is just picking up trash and lacks any version of fun whereas in ME2 and JE when you find something it is useful and cool.

Indeed. That particular dialogue (which is apparently the one in the demo) has three options but this doesn't mean that all of them do.

Exactly, go fire up DAO and take a random screenshot and you could find 3 dialog options at any point.

I hope they do something about the inventory system as well. Just have stores and the loot you find is certain kinds of treasure to sell. That way you find stuff you need and you just take it back to a vendor to buy the stuff you want. That is how I would do it then I don't have to waste 10 minutes sifting through stuff

Jade Empire had no loot.  People need to play more games.  The broken inventory of ME1 and the overabundance of trash loot in DAO are not reasons why inventory is bad, it's simply an example of bad subsystem design.

There are a million other games w/ far better loot systems.  Dungeon Siege, Everquest, Diablo, Summoner 1, Sacred 2 the list goes on and on.

There are already way better systems out there

- press Y to convert to gold
- put loot on your pack donkey
- stackable items
- or, the unthinkable, LOOT THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE WORTH USING has a chance to drop!

As informative and calming as this was. the article and writer sucked, i hat to assume and read through the lines of this cool jock sports journalists nerd-bashing typings to get the info i wanted.

what's he doing previewing DA2 and why is he making casual remarks towards not knowing if what he fought was goblins or orcs? that's weak journalism and should be fired...

JE had loot, you got a new sword for example. It was slim but it was there...plus there was money and forms and such stuff as well. I don't care if it is a physical "thing" I get - see also all the stuff you could loot in ME2 but it never wound up cluttering up your inventory.

They are precisely why inventory is bad. You cite a bunch of games that didn't solve the problem either. Here is the problem in a nutshell - you have gear X, Y and Z. Loot either makes that better or it is just trash you have to sell and by and large most of the crap you pick up in any RPG is just that - junk. Any inventory system that make me ever do this- walk to town, sift trash, sell has failed.  I'm a hero not a stockboy or Mary Kay rep. I'm not doing inventory and making sales. I'm saving the world.

No, those were not loot.  Those were quest rewards.  Dual Sabres pwned.  There were no loot drops as there was no armor or shields etc...

There was money, yes.  Forms were buyable or quest rewards, as were power ups etc... None of it was loot.  JE was a great game, but the lack of armor/weapons was a bit disappointing.  Running around the entire game in the exact same outfit god old IMO.

Not true, a good loot system has a chance for RARES and the good rares dont make bad rares obsolete.  You might find a rare that has good poison resist, then maybe another that has good magic resist.  Neither is better.  They are just suited for different situations

I just couldn't read it. The IGN guy was such a clueless idiot. "Good and evil choices are. . " way to totally misunderstand it and my favorite "We fought some Orcs!" Christ sake. I'll wait until GiantBomb get their hands on it rather than IGN, the website only second to Gamspot in stupidity.

That's what i said before. With that article IGN is defaming DA2 and Bioware just because a stupid journalist who doesn't know the difference between an orc and a goblin wrote a ridiculous article. And now that  misinformation is spreading:pinched:.

I hope that the idiot who wrote that never uses a keyboard again.<_<

I sometimes think there should be a big neon sign advertising the developer posts at the top of every page. Or people could just have the sense to click the Bioware button before jumping to conclusions.

I may be in the minority here, but I for one take no issue with the decision to switch to a ME-style dialog wheel. If Hawke is fully voice-acted, then full-text dialog options are unnecessary. It's a stylistic choice on the part of the design team, and in my opinion, a perfectly reasonable one.

Seriously...but would it be a leap to say that most people that don't read this forum aren't going to be as critical? I dunno.

It's like the press is trying to incite a riot. Bioware, please take DA2 to a competent gaming journalist, for your own sake. Go out to the public and let them know that this is bull.

It is kind of early to be that worried by the marketing isn't it?

Not even all the articles from the exclusive preview are published yet (Gamestar will only be out on Wednesday) and it is still several months before the release of the game. I am 100% certain that in that time most magazines will bring better and more accurate previews.

same happened about Alpha Protocol, terrible reviews made by people who didn't even play the game turned away many otential costumers because people are dumb enough to trust reviews instead of trying games themself and make an opinion for themself

I thought this topic will discuss the game features that is discribed in the IGN article. Instead people rant on the article through 15 pages! Really, guys?

I play a lot of pnp, most of the time what you find as loot is FAr from what you want or even use, those things you find are good to sell for money or recostumize for your own use, and the money gained this way can be spens in a shop to buy what you really want

I want to keep it that way, in me2 you are always on money shortage and it is also absurd that there is zero equipment you could take away from the dead
