Not that I put ANY FAITH into IGN reveiws but something caught my eye that even they wont lie about (we hope)

We also got to see the new conversation system. Dialogue has been simplified so that you only have up to three choices. Each choice is represented by an icon that indicates whether or it's a "good," "nasty," or "badass" choice. Good choices are represented by an olive branch, nasty by a Greek comedy mask, and badass by a red fist. This is an easy way to gauge what response your dialogue choices will produce.

Hmmmmm, what happened to the "oh the wheel can handle 6 conversation lines fully?".

They didn't say those were the only options, they just pointed out that those were some of the options...in any case, read this thread. Devs have already said it's possible to have all six dialogue choices.

I'm hoping a dev will come in and reaffirm this, because I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them later deciding they wanted to simplify it to 3.

While looking over the rest of the article this may as well be bull**** a fallicy, there is some basis in here. It is safe to say that even thoug the dialogue wheel can hold up to as many as 6 dialogue options we may see 3 throughout the majority of the game.

No, it says "simplified" because you have a shortline and an intent icon. Devs have already said we can have up to six options.

Huh, evidently I blocked the part where they actually said only three options out.

In that case.

WTF?

Which has totally destroyed the genre, those infinity games were the best. RPGs have become corporate tools and the budget required by todays AAA games, makes games looks stale & empty because those corpheads are so nuts with risk-free investments that they purposely stop any creative and original idea at angel level.

RPGs are now just another consumption product instead of a breathing world of epic adventures. The greatness of sales numbers has killed intuition and inspired writing. All this for what? so that management people can get their new Porsche to drive in London. Thanks so much for the so-called "evolution" of our beloved genre.

that would be a problem.I hope they do not do an investigate tab...where you get 6 options. And the only real choice affecting options would be 3.

Honestly, I think this is just another case of IGN being pseudo-journalists (In this case, making assumptions/generalizing a game they know nothing about based on a short amount of time with a demo).

I think, that we should finally face the truth. The symbols seem not to be made to make it more predictable what the character will say for the old school guys out there who don´t want to play 3trd person, but´s a help for casual gamers not willing to read even 3 lines of text.  Image IPB
That´s btw something I thought already before this creepy article.

More likely into the Voiced PC vs. Silent PC war.

We put up to 5 choice options and 5 investigate options per dialog node. There is also a difference between choices (where you are actually deciding something) and giving you the opportunity to express yourself in different ways (which I think is quite cool, but not something I believe we have released any details on yet).

"The character models have a subtle comic book look to them, "

- wow ya think? And NO, it's not something to be proud of. It's a huge step backwards!

"BioWare candidly admitted that Dragon Age Origins wasn't the best-looking game around"

- whatever tool said that is an idiot and should be fired because if he/she? thinks the new style and design is a step up then they have no sense of taste or eye for quality graphics and don't deserve a job in this field.

"Each choice is represented by an icon that indicates whether or it's a "good," "nasty," or "badass" choice. Good choices are represented by an olive branch, nasty by a Greek comedy mask, and badass by a red fist. This is an easy way to gauge what response your dialogue choices will produce."

- So let's dumb down the dialog choice so that kiddies that don't like to read can just pick the picture they like...lol What a joke!

"At key points in conversation you'll have the opportunity to let your companions handle a situation. When a fresh group of orcs approach, for instance, you can decide whether or not you want Hawk or his female companion to take care of them. Whomever you choose will dispatch them all in one shot during the cut scene."

- So hell lets just let the game play itself for us!

This isn't Dragon Age 2, this is EA Age and the demise to what was and should of been an incredible IP from Bioware.

sadly have to agree.

Ryllen, if you never played the Witcher, check it out on Steam. Playing it now and its very simular to what (quality and standard wise) Bioware use to put out in the 90s!

I think I might check that out, I've heard great things about the game, I just was busy with NWN2 at the time it came out so I skipped it. I didn't really like the idea of playing a set character but hey, if it's good I might have to take up your reccomendation. I haven't completely given up on DA 2 yet either till I get more information...I just don't like where it's going right now. Maybe I'll buy it when it's on deep, deep discount at Best Buy and Dragon Age 3 is about to come out. Image IPB

Spoiler question, we know of three symbols, what will the rest two be!?

Make a stake. I´m betting going 5 times through all possible Oghren conversations against.

There you have it. IGN was full of **** (As expected) and the maximum number of dialogue options are larger than 3 (Up to a maximum that isn't significantly lower than that of Dragon Age: Origins).

EA purchases Bioware in 2007

Dragon Age is released in 2009, first title published by EA developed by Bioware

Dragon Age 2 being developed, now the IP is killed by EA's influence

I'm not a fan of vague symbols though- an angry fist can mean any number of things; does it mean Hawke will speak angrily or that he is about to lop somebody's head off?

Thank you for clearing this up a bit. And when you say "express yourself" outside of choice options, do you mean like... I can press a button and Hawke will frown/mumble/sigh/laugh during conversation?!

But really, can't wait to hear more on this. Image IPB

Well this was a quick end to what could have been a lucrative franchise.

Definitely will not be purchasing this. I don't care if you say I'm being unfair or harsh or judging without sufficient evidence. I can spot a game I'm not going to like miles away. And this is one of those games I know I will not enjoy.

That being said - I imagine I'm in the minority and most people will pick up Dragon Age 2 and love the new mechanics. This game will no doubt be a huge success with a bigger marketing budget.

Guess I'll go back to waiting for Mass Effect 3 and SWTOR.

A 15£ game gift on Steam, holiday season included in the bet, if you're up for it, bet is on.
