you can still stop it and issue commands to your party by holding the left trigger

My aplogies, I'm not getting my meaning across.

By the way combat was described in that preview, it makes me think that combat will "feel" more "right" if you are engaging more with one character and the rapid action right in front of you. I just can't figure out how it would  be possible to issue these kinds of responsive orders to everyone.

What about the charge-up time for attacks? Not sure how that will work.

Sounds vaguely hack n' slash.

if you work for ign and aren't nerdy enough to tell the difference between an imp and a darkspawn, I think you should look for a new job.

Since I have the 360 version, it does sound like it has the same setup, except perhaps it maps attacks to some of the buttons instead of merely just skills

The guy clearly didn't play DA:O so who's to say he was actually using a skill when he just referred to it as a normal sword hack. Ugh I knew I shouldn't have read the article when I saw it was from IGN.<_<

Ok so the people defending the game said to wait till we have more information before we panic.

However reading that preview I think it is safe to start panicing

OMG DRAGON AGE 2 IS GOING DOWN IN FLAMES, OH THE HUMANITY.

No, because then that person would taint a website or magazine that actually has journalistic integrity.

Hatfield didn't play Origins from what I remember. I think only Onyett and a couple on the PC team did. Some of the 360 editors tried it out but didn't like the setting and how the game played

Journalistic integrity is not akin to failing at research. Even if his words were meant as a joke, it still put me off.

Sounds God of War-ish. Kratos Hawke? Wonder if the console versions will have combos and finishing moves...

Don't apologize, I'm not sure what you mean. Regarding,

combat will "feel" more "right" if you are engaging more with one character and the rapid action right in front of you

combat is almost always easier if a tank gathers every mob in front of him and you AoE 'em down, hence the term "tank & spank" in (easy) raids. If mobs get "loose" things usually get a little trickier.

Regarding,

I just can't figure out how it would  be possible to issue these kinds of responsive orders to everyone

This is the part which confuses me, this is what's happening in every Bioware games that I've played, pause & issue commands. What do you mean!?

Here's how I look at it: Dragon Age 2 is being developed by BioWare. BioWare has not made a bad game, and if they have, then it must have been made well before KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights, because I certainly haven't seen one in recent times (If you count Mass Effect Galaxy, then, well, that's the exception). Dragon Age 2 is likely going to be a good game, due to BioWare's consistent track record.

At best, it will be incredible. At worst, it will be decent. Whatever the case, though, I assure you: it will not be a bad game.

I agree, everything up to origins has been great(have not played any ME, PS3 here), however, I thought Awakening was a big steaming pile and probably explains why I am jaded. I just fear it's a sign of things to come.

I truly hope you are right and I am wrong.

Outside of Mass Effect, I simply can't imagine a Bioware game with real-time combat. Damn, I want to see some gameplay to clarify.

It doesn't even sound remotely God of War-ish. What?

Well, have you ever played Jade Empire?  I would look at how that plays first off because that kind of sounds similar in a way but I could be wrong.

Maybe they 're trying to get across that DA2 is not a game for nerds, which is the reputation of most "hardcore" & "old school" RPGs?

Yes, I've played it. The combat system had flaws, but it was probably the closest BioWare has gotten to real-time non-shooter combat. However, I still say that doesn't sound like God of War.

touche. In that case I hope it makes more nerds so we can combine to create a super-nerd empire Image IPB

Just that there is a difference between pausing and queueing up "final blow" for Oghren, "cone of cold" for Morrigan etc and then hitting pause again to see the results than actually implementing the actual attack yourself. Maybe I misread it but I was getting the feeling that I'd want to get hold of Oghren and go "thrust, thrust, swpie, twirl" and then suddenly realise I had no idea what my other party members were up to. AI controlling my characters is a pet hate (but probably a little irrational.)

Just YouTubed Jade empire. Looks fun. If DA2 follows this type of combat, I may like it better than DA:O.

I want a Dragon Age 2, Jade Empire 2, and Mass Effect 3, not some mix of these

I think the preview was clear on that,

issue commands to your party by holding the left trigger

With the bumpers you can switch between characters in your party. Anyone you're not controlling will be handled by the AI

AI prevails if you skip controlling a character during pause. Unless their choice of words was totally unfit, I don't see how they imply that you control one character and all the rest is AI-controlled.

The combat sounds like it could be fun, and I'm glad that pausing the combat is still an option for console players.

One thing I'm really not fond of is the last thing mention: "The title screen already has a "Downloadable Content" option."

Why dont you like that thats good maybe we will have a free download like Shale in originsImage IPB
