Well, I stopped reading the preview when the journalist started talking about "orcs". I'm just gonna wait for a better article.

Considering the NDA only extends to pictures and film, you'll read a couple of first impressions here on the forums once comic con is over and we can regularly connect to the internet again.

AI prevails if you skip controlling a character during pause. Unless their choice of words was totally unfit, I don't see how they imply that you control one character and all the rest is AI-controlled.

But how can I do the action thing with everyone simultaneously? Maybe you can queue x,x,y,b but then that isn't "reactive" any more....

I hav no idea why I'm failing to get my concern across, but that's cool. Perhaps the key phrase is "BioWare is aiming to keep that tactical aspect but also make it more action packed, if players wish it to be." Unfortunately, I suspect I'll want to be tactical and action packed...

Maybe people should read the entire link before they click on it and go "OMG TERRIBLZ."

It's IGN. Of course it was going to be bad.

Good choices are represented by an olive branch, nasty by a Greek comedy mask, and badass by a red fist. This is an easy way to gauge what response your dialogue choices will produce.]

The premise of the RPG for me was always having to work out, by reading, just what the hell you're character actually meant instead of it being explained to you by a dumb symbol. Make games for grown ups, BioWare.

you pause, select Hawke->choose action 1, select Megan Fawkes->choose action 5, select Ugly sister of Hawke->choose action 3 etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by reactive. Maybe what they do let you do, similar e.g. to knights of the old republic (and tbh all Bioware games, it's just that I played kotor that way). Queue the actions you want (i.e. with regard the default scenario you'd expect to happen) for all characters but be able to react in real time if you just need to modify just one character's course of action.

This can be interpreted as reactive and still remains compatible with turn based combat notions.

Hello the article is about the CONSOLE version, If anyone remembers the console versions combat was completely different and inferior to the PC interface in DAO. I'm glad they've changed it for console players, the PC version will remain the smilar for us whom like the tactical overview.

It's official, they've changed it into Mass Effect. It didn't bother me until I saw that it would tell you what sort of consequences I would see. Oh, so I want to play a goodish playthrough on my first run; that's not fun, I'll always be picking the top one. It's soooo dumbed down...AAAARRRGGHHH! I haven't been this angry since I saw the "Darkspawn".Unless this is improved I won't buy it, I bought Dragon Age: Origins for the deep conversation options, with combat sprinkled in between, not COMBAT and now your options are labeled GOOD, EVIL. I'm not 2 years old, let me infer my own responses!

Yes, they've already said the PC combat will be nearly identical.  They are changing it dramatically for console since it wasn't working so well.  Devs said they felt they could provide the same story and experience despite two divergent combat systems.

Just to play Devil's Advocate - in ME Paragon and Renegade were two separate scales that didn't necessarily preclude each other.  You could easily go back and forth depending on the situation based on your RP of Shep.  Hates aliens but always nice to humans, etc.  I doubt it will be as simple as good - top, evil - bottom.  From my interpretation it's more like Nice, Sarcastic, Mean - which is not the same as good/evil.  Obviously IGN saying Nasty for a comedy mask was a misinterpretation on their part.  It's a funny/sarcastic/snarky answer.  And Bioware has said there will be up to six options per dialogue, so we can anticipate there may be three others.

I don't know what to think, though one persons comment about paraphrasing under that article kinda summed it up for me if that is how it's going to swing. I hope I'm wrong but it just sounds so dumbed down now.

Leave it to IGN to confuse sarcastic/funny with nasty.

So we have:

Image IPB = good
Image IPB = sarcastic
Image IPB = badass

so far. Any guesses on the other 3?

I'm going with:

Image IPB = caring
Image IPB = psychotic
Image IPB = cool Hawke

I'm kind of amazed that people believe an IGN contributor (who makes not knowing anything about Dragon Age a point of pride) over statements made by Bioware developers.

Maybe if IGN produces enough asinine commentary with little connection to reality, they can single-handedly destroy DA2.

That's a good point, I guess my brain just kinda said: "Intake newest Dragon Age II info NOW!" and that overided the rest :)

Yeah there'll probably be six different types but unless you can turn the symbols off (which I doubt), then it's not gonna be as fun picking dialogue options.

i really start to worry about the conversation system

i got DA:O for the deep and intricate conversations options,

but now it seems they just go with the good and bad thing

i hope it will turn out at least as good as it is in DA:O

New article – Got to be interesting…

After reading the article:
I am not sure if I should laugh my ass off or cry...
It’s like you  are going  to the uni to read Shakespeare and they are giving you’re My little Pony novelization instead.

This ain't no dumping down. Think a bit.
In DA:O u had like 5 choices, but u achived the same response from like 3 of the options. U just said a different sentense. That's it. I'd call it an improvement.
Anyway I like what I've read, excpet the DLC thing. -_-
Looking forward to it=]

But you still can have 5 responses in DA2. Just read the developer responses in this very thread. It's just IGN who decided that since they only saw 3 responses in the demo, therefore all conversations will have only 3 responses.

Focusing on gore and presenting a dialogue system created for illiterates?

I wish I could feign shock.
