That article was horrible.

You almost get the impression the person who wrote it didn't like Dragon Age to begin with.

Wait, wait, wait. "Nasty" by a Greek comedy mask? That doesn't make the remotest amount of sense! Perhaps they really mean "snarky"?

Depends what age of Greek comedy you're talking about. Aristophanes' comedy was really nasty. He would do things like describe the smell of the state's leader's genitals while he was watching the play.

I'm not really sure where the "there are only three options for dialog" impression they got came from. Perhaps it was when I showed one half of the dialog wheel with three options...which, you know, leaves another half open for...you know...other....options. *Shrug*

Also probably worth noting that we're not locked into specific icons per place in the wheel. Oh no. We have -much- more flexibility than that. We're like gymnasts.

Yeah, I stopped reading IGN because of ridiculous drivel like this.  "Orcs"?  Don't know the difference?  If I was being cynical, I'd say this was a willful confusion "encouraged" by EA so as to make newcomers think it's like LotR and not confuse them by having to explain Darkspawn.  Otherwise the reviewer shouldn't be doing this line of work.

In general, IGN has had a massive pro-EA slant for ages now, releasing "recap" articles on ME and DA, hailing ME as the best game, and pieces like this one.  The "previewer" clearly had some points given to him that he had to hit... Orcs, comic book style, like Mass Effect, cut in half, newcomers have a video to explain things and can jump right in.  Sigh!!!

^^^ Marionetten is right, so unfortunately we're just gonna get more and more of this.  I'm waiting for reviews on this one, again.  If DA2 goes the way of ME2, well, it won't be pretty!  :o

Edit - As always, Mike's words sooth my anger, thanks for the info... guess I need to chill and just ignore everything that doesn't come from a dev  :)

Thanks for the clarification, but I'm expecting another five pages of "there will only be three options and conversations have been dumbed down and simplified!" This forum is so depressing sometimes -- it's like half the people in this thread just decided to ignore the comments from developers that there will be more than three options because they got in the way of being melodramatic.

What exactly were the enemies IGN was fighting? Were they Darkspawn or something else? Just curious... because they don't seem to know themselves.

If it was Steve Butts (PC IGN) you would have a much better article and someone who actually knows abit about Dragon Age (I listen to him on podcast). He's very well informed, the console staff from the looks of things, are one step up from Steve-O, Weeman and Johnny Knoxville.

Meh simplified conversation options sound like ****e. Dumbing down is bad mmmkay.

This ain't no dumping down. Think a bit.
In DA:O u had like 5 choices, but u achived the same response from like 3 of the options. U just said a different sentense. That's it. I'd call it an improvement.
Anyway I like what I've read, excpet the DLC thing. -_-
Looking forward to it=]

But you still can have 5 responses in DA2. Just read the developer responses in this very thread. It's just IGN who decided that since they only saw 3 responses in the demo, therefore all conversations will have only 3 responses.

Yeah u got the point. I rushed my comment.
My bad. Glad to see that there will be more than 3 options.

No it doesn't. Aristophanes is THE example of nasty Greek comedy. I remember some hilarious sexist passages from my theater studies at university about having moist women for breakfast. Definitely not a tragedy writer.

When the name IGN comes up, my mind immediately falls into a state of vegetation.

In all seriousness, that article was horrible but it is IGN what are you going to do about it.

Tragedy (Ancient Greek: τραγῳδία, tragōidia, "he-goat-song"[1]) is a form of art based on human suffering that offers its audience pleasure.

And now no matter how hard you try to refute it, there will be many people who say "DA2 will suck there will be only 3 dialogue responses". This is what happens when your übermegahyped AAA title is previewed by an incompetent clown just because he happens to be an IGN employee. I hope it was worth it.

And like a wise guy once said, you can't spell IGNORANCE without IGN.

Considering the quality of the rest of the preview, I'd say it's impressive they even managed to get the title name right.

And 'lo comes the bit**ing! Sweet goddamned Jesus, I can't read anything here without reading a thread full of people going, "DRAGON EFFECT BOO" "THIS GAME WILL SUCK, BUT I'M GOING TO SIT AROUND HERE ALL DAY COMPLAINING ANYWAY!"

You guys are the biggest chunk of negative freaking nancies I've ever seen out of a Blizzard forum. It's a game! Buy it or don't! Go tabletop if you're too much of an RPG purist.

If this community were representative of my actual social circle, I'd have jumped off a bridge years ago.

"Focusing on gore and presenting a dialogue system created for illiterates?

I wish I could feign shock."

My GOD you're right! It's almost as if Bioware focussed the demonstration only on a small number of features that we've already been told a little bit about, in order to demonstrate how they're being updated!

Those crazy game devs.

Orcs, imps, goblins? seriously? When I first started reading this I thought it had to be some kind of prank. This is a new low for IGN and possibly the worstgame article ever written. The least they could do is get someone to write the article that actually knows basic facts about dragon age. Several things in this article are completely wrong based on what the devs have said in the forums. It's embarrassing to even think how IGN ever possibly allowed this article to be published.

does anyone notice this :"in conversation you'll have the opportunity to let your companions handle a situation".
It seems DA:O doesn't offer this possibility, of course followers can give their own opinion, but they can't handle a full conversation.
That's a big diference, isn't it?

what does it really mean?Do we have the real opportunity to let our followers handle all the dialogues when it feets them? Can we except another kind of consequences in their choices than if it was Hawke who handle the same conversation? Is it a way to learn more about their personnality?

well, i want to learn more about this possibility.

please do not focus on the "orc", as we all know it is not,;)

Other than the graphics I have defended this game a lot so far, but this preview REALLY makes it sound like Dragon Effect. Unless the PC combat is truly a lot different I feel like this game is going to be a massive disappointment to me, a person who loved it because it was finally another Baldur's Gate style RPG.

Not sure why Bioware would do this, the original was very successful. Maybe this is just a bad preview... the wait for more info continues, I guess.

Heaven forbid people like a game and worry its sequel will change too much and be worse.  Cause that has NEVER happened before right?  Oh wait...

IGN said "Today we got a taste of the new combat system with a mountaintop battle
against an army of orcs. They might have been imps or goblins or
demons, actually. We're not nerdy enough to know the difference.
"

Yeah because being a games reviewer is not nerdy at all. I bet you tell yoursself that everynight before you go to sleep. Seriously, way to pi$$ off your audience...
