I put this in the DA2 forum mainly due to Kirkwall's location and previous history with the Qunari.

Thank you for your response sir, I suppose my dreams of Sten commanding a skirmish line to fire by rank and fix bayonets will remain just that.
Or a really weird Empire:Total War mod, one of the two.

Sten could probably pick up a cannon under his arm and use it as a blunderbuss, so keep that in mind.
Sure, but after a couple of shots, the barrel gets very warm and burns his arm, and it makes him very cranky.

Cannons would shoot a large projectile that would be effective against walls and armored units while fireballs would be effective against things that would catch on fire
People can also shoot large boulders from their hands.

But only some people can do magic, anyone can fire a cannon with training.

Remember the Qunari have strict views regarding magic
Yes, and they cut out the tongues of their mages.

even mage
and blood mage
however, and should they ever be seen to perform forbidden magic, qunari mages would have their tongues cut out.

Then they most likely still use usual siege weapons, and cannons mean mostly mortars and such
however, I have to point out that some of the oldest gunpower weapons were grenade-like weapons so these should be added to qunari armament aswell

Cannons seem unnecessary when you have people that can shoot explosive fire balls out of their hands.
Mages are rare, firearms essentialy give everyone in an army of thousands the power of a mage. I'm kind of suprised they haven't caught on yet in the DAO universe. That tech exploded in our universe once our metallurgy/mining/mass production techs allowed it. Seeing as how DAO has steel arms and armor flowing like water everywhere you go, and blackpowder is at least known of, you would think it would be making a big emergence on the scene around the time frame of the game.

people have a phobia from magic, there are few real mages compared to non-magic users, most people would rather have an army with double the nuumber of mages with unreliable power using weapons even if now and then a soldier blows itself up than having a lower number of "unreliable" mages

Aww. what about the fire lances, though? ( http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Fire_lance ) these actually predate cannons by the looks of it, and are hand-held weapons.David Gaider wrote...

Sten is pretty clever, I imagine he would use the hot barrel of the cannon to bake cookies on as we was shooting his enemies. Besides, we've all heard his chat with Morrigan, qunari are into wierd, kinky stuff involving burns from hot metal objects.

And perhaps the recoil is not so pleasant too..
