Sten could probably pick up a cannon under his arm and use it as a blunderbuss, so keep that in mind.

Sure, but after a couple of shots, the barrel gets very warm and burns his arm, and it makes him very cranky.

Then have the party's mage Cone of cold it, and keep shooting.

Sten invades at the very end with a qunari army and kills Hawke, and the DA:O fans rejoice! Posted Image

Sten is pretty clever, I imagine he would use the hot barrel of the cannon to bake cookies on as we was shooting his enemies. Besides, we've all heard his chat with Morrigan, qunari are into wierd, kinky stuff involving burns from hot metal objects. Posted Image

satisfies a fetish, kills enemies, AND bakes cookies?
that sounds like Sten would kill 3 birds with 1 stone.

Sorry. I disagree. More Kick-ass would be to kill Hawke while playing as the Warden in a DLC. It can't be done in DA3 as Hawke's just a toddler for the warden.

Cannons seem unnecessary when you have people that can shoot explosive fire balls out of their hands.

Mages are rare, firearms essentialy give everyone in an army of thousands the power of a mage.  I'm kind of suprised they haven't caught on yet in the DAO universe.  That tech exploded in our universe once our metallurgy/mining/mass production techs allowed it.  Seeing as how DAO has steel arms and armor flowing like water everywhere you go, and blackpowder is at least known of, you would think it would be making a big emergence on the scene around the time frame of the game.

Maybe that's why Hawke is set to become the "most important character" in Thedas... ;)

They have cannons, as relatively primitive as they might be, as well as gunpowder (something the dwarves are trying to replicate, as mentioned in Awakening). That has not extended to hand-held firearms, however.

Didn't Branka already make smokeless powder?

In MY game, Sten becomes a berserker. I would utilize his pain from the burning sensation to further drive him mad, and thus enhance his limb-hacking, eye-gouging, body-sundering powers :police:

Hmm... Sten hip-firing a canon with Asala attached to it as a bayonet. He wouldn't even need ammunition for the canon. Skewer darkspawn on Asala, set off the powder charge, knock all the dead darkspawn off, repeat. It's a self cleaning killing machine!

Much more kickass version: Sten AND the Warden kick Hawkes ass in a DLC.

Wait a minute if your introducing gunpowder technology to the game whats the point of armor. Gunpowder ended the reign of the armor wearing knight for the cheaper foot soldier. I know that the French Musketeer had a steel breastplate but that was made quickly absolete. To my knowledge that was the last use of metal armor except for helmets until the invention of Kevlar.

That may be true in real life, which it is. Think of Silverite and Dragonbone, let alone the higher tiers of armor.
Now carefully consider that the armor worn by RL knights were tier 3. Think of how much gunpowder it would take to pierce armor of tiers 6 and higher. B)

If Arrows can pierce the armor of the higher tiers so that an archer character can do damage then what will those armors do against gunpowder weapons. Best guess gunpowder will be a skill set like the archer set gets better as you acquire more skills. I'm sure Lyrium enchanted armor will provide some protection. As the game states armor just reduces the damage you take.

Eh I cannot really argue against the arrows, except that maybe the ice, fire, filth, and magic arrows contribute. Dare I ask how there will be fire and lightning gunpowder? It doesn't even have to be lyrium enchanted armor though, not mostly; Juggernaut was one of a kind.

Don't necessarily think of it as the arrow literally piercing through the armor; instead think of it like getting shot by a 12 Gauge while wearing body armor. Yes, it will hurt like hell, but the shell did not go through you. You just hurt, and probably enough of them actually might pierce the armor.

Oh, that's right. Forgetting the lore already. :P

Anyone remeber where in Awakening it mentions dwarves' trying to replicate gunpowder?

There's a crazy dwarf you see pretty much right at the beginng, and then he's permanent addition to the Keep and you can discuss that matter with him.
