However I would appreciate them backing off from what they did with Dragon Age: Origins, that was terrible, I laughed the whole way through it, who would stand and hug eachother whilst wearing their underwear?
I personally prefered the way Mass Effect did it, it looked like a movie love scene you would see whilst watching a James Bond film or something simliar.

You do realise people care more for the actual romance not the sex scene?KappaOmicron wrote...

If they hadn't had the underwear I wouldn't have minded the sex scenes in DA, but yes, I did like the ones in ME more. I thought they were very well done.

Why is it that in 1 of 3 threads you appear in turns into a derailed thread about homosexuals?
Because this forum is populated by homophobes and I like to annoy them.

Ahhhh, But often sex is where the romance leads to, and it's a good thing at the right time and place. I liked the ME love scene.

Lol me too.
Well, in fact not, but still. They´re funny. Especially if there is a Zevran again:
"Can I ask some questions?"
"Alright, but I get to stare at you luridly while you do so!"

My point was that he seemed to be judging the romances based on their sex scenes, not their dialogue.mopotter wrote...

must have missed that. Without the dialog it would not be the same game. Don't think I'd play that game.

Ah, you are lucky. I should hope for in game marriage since the game will stretch for ten years anyway.
Then I'll call it even!!

I've been on 474 first dates (was planning on writing a dating book at 500) and in a committed relationship for 5 years. Some of us just think that Romance options add a lot of value to the games.
I could just as easily turn it around and say that people who cannot deal successfully with Romance options are uncomfortable because they are lonely blah bleh etc.
One of the most popular demographics of the Twilight Saga is actually married, middle-aged women. And that essentially exists as one giant romance story with a bit of Vampire action here and there. So, I just I guess do not get that insult/generalization.
Just saw that argument come up as a reason not to have romances in the game and it bothered me. Besides, it comes down to whether people want the romances or not, I don't think Bioware cares about their relationship status.

You know, being married is one of the most important reasons why people lack romance and sex.
Those of you who are happily married, don´t feel offended please, just saying.

I want something more dark.
Maybe you already have a family from the start, but the evil slays them.
Or you have to marry an unfaithful **** to gain political power.
My main point is that the whole love business always goes from single to happily ever after.
Show us something new. From married to divorced as an example.

I say that as long as romances are just an option that you're free not to take, it shouldn't bother you that the choice is there for people who want it.
I agree. And to be honest I can't say that I understand the point or motive of not only preferring some aspects of RP gaming over others (which is a perfectly reasonable expression of personal taste), but actually going beyond that to begrudging others their own but differing preferences.

I'm a 45 year old happily married man, and I still love module romances... There seems to me something odd about some peoples' penchant to read different motives into module romances than into the general motive that brings people to RP gaming in the first place -- namely, to have fun role-playing a fantasy adventure...
There is apparently, among some players, an odd "stigma" against romance mods -- that any romance is "cheesy," that valuing module romances means that you're superficial or engaging in fantasy compensation for the lack of a life, etc. Obviously, I think that's horse hockey.
Romance is one of the most basic and endemic aspects of life, and love stories abound in fiction, literature, and cinema. The difference in an RPG, it seems to me, is that in the latter you experience the story not just as a passive observer, but as an active agent. In short, the player has to put himself into a role in the story; Otherwise, what you're talking about is not an RPG, but an Action game.
Not everyone has to like module romances. I can understand not caring for certain kinds of RP elements, romance among them; but to disparage those who do like them is something else entirely. And one does not do oneself any credit by doing so.

That may be true for those of you who aren't on powerful psychiatric drugs. I, unfortunately, had to trade my interest in romance and sex for the ability to think coherently, not frighten people so badly that they feel it necessary to drop everything and try to physically drag me to a walk-in mental health clinic, and not have to spend several minutes trying (and mostly failing) to convince that cute blonde chick that I'm not a danger to myself, and she can safely leave my presence and go back to what she was doing.AndarianTD wrote...

Sigh... I miss my sex drive, and I hope to have it back someday, but I'm still a few therapy sessions away from being ready to get off the drug that crippled it.

Personally, I like romances in RPGs, as long as they are well written and optional. They add a certain level of depth and emotional attachment to the relationships with the party members. Intra-party romance where you can either play Cupid, be a dour, no-nonsense leader who berates them for such childish behaviour or an evil jerk who ruins everything just for the lulz would also be vastly amusing.
As for the fellow fans who say focusing on romances prevents from concentrating on other aspects of the game and on other content... well, that's hardly the big deal, IMHO - I doubt romances take so much time and money to significatively influence this. [If you want to complain, think about my old pet peeve... FULL VOICE ACTING. That's what actually makes us lose a HUGE amount of content, dialogue, choices, etc.. Taking the BG or PST route (dub only some conversations), the game could have probably been a good 30% longer in terms of dialogues, even with 4 romance choices for each gender.... But that's another topic.]
