Yeah, I completly stopped looking at Mass Effect 2's forum page because of the clutter of "I Support" threads. It's cool to show support, but they went WAAAAY overboard and encroached on the "creepy" side.

Agreed, and I say this as someone who actually quite liked the Liara and Ashley romances of ME1. For what they were.

It might be good for these DA2 boards, that there are no romanceable companions returning for the "Warden" character. Instead we have a new character, and mostly new companions. One can only imagine what kinds of spam threads we'd be seeing right now if the Warden WAS returning: 1000+ page Morrigan thread, and panicky "support" threads demanding the return of the other three, all stinking up and cluttering the forum, sucking the air out of any other discussion.

I'll take the random "beastiality" romance threads here over the infatuated-get-a-life-threads swamping ME2.Posted Image

Maybe, but cluttering the forums with Morrigan and Support threads isnt part of the core issue (even if it is annoying).

Will a lack of romances make a better game? Using the logic of those who are saying that lack of race choice will make a better game, one would have to agree: No romances will make a better game.

It might indeed allow the writers to concentrate on other sorts of characterization. Different degrees of friendship or enmity, radically different ways of interacting with MageHawke than with WarriorHawke, etc.

The Tali thread is up to 9885 pages. I dare not look, but I can't even imagine how that thread ended up that length, I've always found her character somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps that's the appeal.

No you misunderstand my intent (though probably not, you're just trying to make an overriding point).

If anything, I would like to see more depth to romances. Qauntity isn't to much of an issue, but given the time span of DA II, a fresh fling couldn't hurt once in a while.

Though to play devil's advocate with my prior statement, it could be incredibly interesting to see how a relationship could evolve over an extended period.

How exactly does one long thread clutter a forum and suck air out of other discussions?  It is one thread....

I think it's the "mystery" factor of who is behind the mask.

I to like forwardness more, even in my sudo-in game-romances.

 9885 pages is disturbing........................

Romances will probably be in the game anyway, because BioWare games try to get the players to be emotionally attached to the characters.

Seriously, basically none of the end-game decisions would be considered ''tough'' or ''difficult'' if the player didn't care about the characters.

If players don't care about the illusion that is presented to them then how are you going to create the illusion of a hard choice?

Expect likeable characters and romances in DA2.

I see your point.

But, how much character depth could they have without romances in an over all sense?

Probably fairly deep I would think.

However, logically romances arent necessary for someone to care about their character.

Just saying.

Eh those threads sort of became little communities, the fans of Tali get to know each other and babble on about other topics as they come up I presume.  That is probably they the mods close them from time to time.

But I never read the Tali thread.

Then don't play them. Logically, no one is twisting your arm to play through optional dialog.

That's what the ''likeable characters'' part was for, i did differentiate between those two, but quite late though.
Or did you mean the Warden?

Well, much like lack of race choice, wouldnt this make for a better game...lacking romances?

I mean, as has been said tons of times on these forums:  it just means they can spend more time on the stuff that will matter more in the game, right?

Romance has always been just an option if integrated in BioWare games
and there was always one or more way to avoid it if you wanted no part
of the love interest / friendship content.

I remember though that a lot of people here and on other community
forums named the lack of romance options in Awakening as the
primary reason for passing on that xp and leaving it on the retail
store's shelves

No, and to be honest I give litte effort towards romances on first playthroughs. I do think they add a vast amount of replayability.

I'm on my (unspeakable number insert) palythrough with DA and I am still comming across situations I haven't encountered before. That's quality and incredible depth.

True.

But, what if the new mass market approach of Bioware excludes romances because the mass market doesnt care for it?

Would you still buy it?

Ah ok.

So you are saying it adds to the game, but is not necessary or a deal breaker for you.

I'd wait until it was cheap, I suppose...once the price got knocked off a bit. I'd eventually buy it--obviously not every RPG has romance in it--but the game would wait just like any other. BioWare is the only company I always make sure I'm first in line for, when it can be helped.
