3 words... Blood. Dragon. Armor. Stupid ME2 wasn't worth either of these bugged up the ass games... <.< I just quit Bioware games until they prove they will actually fix these glitches...
What made you buy DAO?

I took a chance on it. In general, I like medieval fantasy settings, RPGs, and anything that somehow involves dragons. I'd read a Game Informer preview, and later review, of it and was intrigued.
But ultimately, it ended up being an impulse buy. I was at GameStop blowing some birthday money and had gone in specifically to buy "Heavy Rain"... and ended up walking out with it and DAO. Then DAO sucked me in and my soul's been lost in there even since.

A screenshot made me buy it so to speak. It is the last i remember that had attracted me. While at the same time i heard it was like BG, which i have only played very little. I saw the potential with this kind of game ,from top down. However that expecation was not met, after i have passed the Ogre in the tower. Probably because i was lured in the shoulder perspective ,the game got action heavy. But i wished the game was how it looked at first.
Cant find the screenshot anymore but it was similar to this, except it had a little dragon in it

I'd participated in the old forums WAY back when dragon age was on the drawing board, and even contributed to the dragon age discussion there with a few posts, wishes and suggestions.
I took a rather long break from gaming, got back to playing NWN2 for a while, and once I got that out of my system, was left hungry for more... and spotted Dragon Age Origins in a store. Remembered that I really looked forward to that once, and knowing Bioware, thought that it should be worth the money.
Haven't regretted that buy at all.

I saw a commercial for it on tv months before it released. I wrote the release date down in my calendar and forgot about it. Several months later I saw that i had a note to buy Dragon Age: Origins. So I went out & purcahsed the game-not really knowing what I was buying. I am so glad I did!

I'd loved the Baldur's Gate series and had been searching for decent RPGs on a PS3 but hadn't found one that I'd loved as much. When I saw Bioware was releasing it on a PS3 I just about went nuts! I've been hooked ever since. May go back to the PC at some point for the mods but I love playing it a console.

I was reading a post on Sims site where the person was asking if anyone could make a Sim that looked like a Dragon Age character. There was a link to this site as a reference point, and I followed it out of curiosity and the need to know more.

Its a Bioware game. I tend to buy games from companies I'm loyal to. But that may change now that its owned by the Evil Empire.

One word. Bioware.
Seriously. Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect made for a better letter of recommendation than any reviews or trailers could possibly have. Bioware's the only company whose games I buy on general principle--and they've never let me down. Unlike some others, I wasn't disappointed by ME2 either, and I'm sure as hell not pessimistic about DA2.
So yeah. That's all there is to it, I guess.

I didn't. EA gave it to me and I've had no life since
Didn't even know about the game LoL. But man did I get hooked.

I saw the trailer, thought it looked interesting so I looked up some gameplay videos.
Got it on a whim, basically.

I'm a convert. I was tired of Final Fantasy, especially after FFXIII, but I still liked RPGs. I was wary of DAO at first, but bought it on a whim and loved it.

I was playing Guild Wars and someone in my guild hadn't logged on in a loooong time because she was hooked on Dragon Age. What she told me got me interested. One day I bought it, not really knowing what to expect.

I think I first heard of it on TV commercials before its release, I think it was the "Sacred Ashes" trailer(the one where they climb the mountain, then fight and kill the dragon). I thought that ad was pretty cool, so I started checking out info about it online. Then I downloaded some 360 marketplace vids of it(some preview vids for each origin story), which I also thought were all pretty cool. The research I did was enough for me to pre-order it, and I liked pretty much everything about it.

I'm a Lord of the Rings fan from way back (the books, not the video game!), and quite frankly, video games never really interested me before. I saw the commercial on TV and thought it looked pretty awesome, so I tried it out. I haven't looked back since. I somehow got involved with the modding community and it's even more fun than the game itself! Now I'm trying to make cutscenes with the DA Toolkit. Holy, talk about a steep learning curve!

I don't really remember. I remember being interested when it was first announced. Looked for news every now and then. When release was near, I guess I just got interested. I would've bought it regardless, I guess.
Hmm. I think I also got really intrigued/more interested when I found out Claudia Black was doing a voice for one of the characters. Near the time of release, I got hooked on this show called 'Farscape' (something which I ignored when it was still airing...I thought it was 'weird' back then, and I don't recall having seen a full episode prior to being 'forced' to watch it sometime last year lol)...

Saw a and trailer thought it was interesting
didn't know anything about DA:O before i bought it
then just got the game, didn't like it the first time i've played it for an hour or 2,
so put it aside for a week or two.
then something told me to give it another try, and then i got to Morrigan, and the rest is history
i have something like a 1000 hrs in DA:O now and still counting
So....,in a way Morrigan is what made me buy DA:O
it is the best spend 50 euros in a very long time

It was on sale on Steam, and I needed something else to play other than ME2. I honestly didn't have much interest in the game prior to that. I heard an awful lot about it (mostly good), but when I saw screenshots and watched gameplay videos it never really appealed to me. But I took a chance, and I'm pretty happy with it.
