So because PC gamers want the game to be tailored to the strengths of THEIR platform of choice, while allowing the console versions to be tailored to the console's strengths, we're being elitist?

I so don't understand this logic.

I agree.

Jesus jumping christ, lots of console elitists here. Speaking as someone who has both an Xbox 360 and a PC, here's my take:

Console games are generally less complex than their PC counterparts, simply due to the limitations of the platform (Dragon Age Origins, for example, has far better graphics and a more accessible control scheme on PC). There's nothing wrong with this, as it means the console version is more tailored to the console itself, rather than trying to emulate something it isn't capable of.

The problem with this comes when one system suffers because of the limitations of a platform..."below" it. A PC game shouldn't be restricted because of the existence of an Xbox 360/Ps3 version; rather, the game should be tailored for each system. A simple alteration in control scheme is generally all that's required.

Mass Effect 2 was blatantly more console-oriented on the PC, and while this wasn't a deal-breaker, it was a disappointment. The hotkeys were limited, and having most of my actions mapped to one button "Spacebar" got annoying. Compared to Dragon Age, it was an even greater disappointment as that game was clearly developed with the PC in mind.

I have no problem with the console version getting better treatment, but it is completely unfair for the PC version to suffer because of it.

Plus, they don't actually say on the cover "this game was specifically made for the consoles yet we are porting it to PC's as well in a shameless attempt at making more monkeys; expect disappointment".

Your wish has already been granted, many times over. Usually whenever a console-based publisher releases a multi-platform game.

However, If DA:O is one of the biggest sellers in Bioware's history, and the best platform for it was pc, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot by snubbing this fanbase.

are you in drugs????? how many times these pc gamers don´t understand DA:O is multi = PC, 360 and PS3 that is why sell more than mass effect 2:devil:

The Witcher 1 and 2 had this question too, and the dev acknowledged the fact that they are not developing a console version because they don't want to 'dumb down' their game.

They have also said they will port TW2 to the console. So it will be interesting to see if they can do that platform justice.

I think that in the end all these arguments are futile. Developing next-gen games is insanely expensive to say the least and have to generate massive sales just to break even so like it or not BioWare has spoken.....consoles will rule.

That is the thing. They should IMPROVE. Even if they have to change the inventory system only on PC they should do that. They should remove the "press press "yes" things from options. Higher textures and no fps limits and so on. Instead we will stay the same...

Edit: And now they will improve the Console version. However most of the time when devs do this. It mean "dumb the PC version down so that the console people wont complain that PC version > Console version.

I admire CD Projekt's appoach, I really do. To admit that they can't handle doing all versions simultaniously and thus focusing on the platform where their fanbase is primarily located, making sure they get that one right first. I know there's usually a lot of controversy surrounding simultanious platform releases, but I would rather see BioWare take this approach with ME3 and wait 1-3 months for a proper PC version, than get an ME2-esque port.

I was only speculating that pc players make up the majority of sales for DA:O. But maybe I'm wrong on this.

PS3 is 100% piracy free platform, very popular in Europe and Japan, so his point was valid.

Some of the console people swearing at the PC gamers should relax a little bit. Like I previously said before, I also own consoles. I wouldn't want to see Uncharted, the newest Batman or Gears of Wars "PClized" on the console. Most people here are not attacking the console players or bashing consoles themselves. Both systems are very different and both sides don't want their side "contaminated" by the other.

I bet console players would sound like PC gamers if Dragon Age 2 system came before Dragon Age : Origins. Going from the strenghts of the console to a more PC like system on your console.

In most cases though, it's the PC getting a game streamlined from the console version, hence why they're the most vocal about this issue.

where are the pc sales?? the pc market is broken because the piracy also the console have piracys pecially the 360 , wii, psp and ds. But  the level of piracy in the pc is the reason many developers prefere to make console games.

Alrighty, first of all, "console-izing" a game does not, as a rule, dumb it down. I'm sick of elitist Comp. gamers (not all obviously) thinking they're because they have more buttons.

Second of all none of what you wrote was dumbing down in any way. Save for the skills of IGN's writers, the three choice theory has been disproved since by one deveplopers.

Thirdly, you cannot tell me with a straight face that Hurlocks (the only enemy that has gone a radical change that we know of) weren't incredibly generic, along with large amounts of the artistic direction of DA:O.

You have to realise that BioWare is a business. Their job is to make money, if to do so they must alienate their "mature" PC fanbase whose been with them from the start, they will.

Well ME2 was dumbed down from the 1st to make the consoles more favourable a choice and guess what we PC owners have to live with it? I do not have high hopes for DA2, i have a feeling it will dissapoint many PC owners...

This movement towards consoles is to generate huge sales and well a few dessenders on the forums(hundreds at most) aren't going to make a difference when the decission was made to create hundreds of thousands if not millions of sales. If we were arguing something lesss important than the GUI then maybe voicing dissent may have made a diiference but not in this case.

At any rate I LIKE where BioWare is going with DA2.

I didn't get that impression, but the idea that PC games are "suffering" due to console versions does hold some validity.

Like I said earlier, the game should be tailored towards the strength of each platform.  The PC can handle better graphics and a more complex control scheme, so the game should have that in the PC version.  The console version should also be optimized with a more streamlined control scheme.

Many PC gamers (including myself) are slightly bitter from a considerable number of embarassing console ports that do nothing to utilize the strength of the PC (hell, some of them don't even bother to implement a proper interface).

BioWare is trying to avoid this if you read information that is avaliable to you.
