The top-down, angled, zoomed-out perspective is definitely great for tactical use in combat situations and I wouldn't want to do without it. It's probably one of the major reasons I liked combat in DA:O, especially when I'm controlling multiple characters. Fortunately, I'm not sure there's any reason to think they'd remove it from the PC version, at least.

The only reason I can think of is if they're designing for the consoles first (which is possibly true given that it's easier to port to PC than the other way around).

But it's still a very important feature for the PC.  I could see them removing it if they were reducing the party size to 2 (or eliminating the party entirely and just having the one character), but even without full control over the party members the high-angle tactical camera would ne extremely useful for targetting.

Plus, in DAO at least, the high camera made it easier to select objects (you didn't need a line of sight).

I would like it if the tactical camera could zoom out a bit farther than it did in DAO.

I'm almost positive that a developer said they were working on the pc and console versions of the game simultaneously.

Thats what concerns me- I think Muzyka mentions this in the GI article- that its far easier to port from the console to the PC rather than PC to console. Unless BioWare puts extra effort in building back up PC exclusive features that utilize the strengths of the PC, I have a feeling most of what we'll get in the PC version will feel like a console port.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but we shall see. The ability to zoom in and out is definitely an asset on the PC though. Even if I  wasn't zoomed out all the time, it was nice to have that option.

Yep, I remember that too. I don't think there's cause to worry about bad ports.

Why couldn't we get this on the console? I think many of the issues reported for the console was because of a lack of this feature. Put the game on several disk if it helps.

Consoles are barbaric platforms. They do not have the sophistication of a PC.
The only reason they are on the console is to maximize profit, which it did. Really,  the game should have only been on the pc. The good news however, is that Dragon Age 2 is a console game, not a CRPG, press X to defeat evil.

If I recall correctly, it was a memory issue.  The top-down camera required the game draw more on the screen at once, specifically enemies.  Consoles don't have a lot of VRAM.
