Which one do you prefer? Do you use any of these guns anyway?
I just noticed I actually never used it on my Vanguards at all. Locust SMG seems superior in every way.

I usually use the Carnifex. It's an insanely good weapon for stripping armor. If your aim is good you can eliminate Harbinger on Insanity with one clip (especially with the +50% Armor upgrade). Pretty much the Predator is inferior to the Carnifex in every aspect except for ammo count (and fire rate, but the Carnifex still has a higher DPS so the point is moot). So unless you're having ammo problems (a problem that occurs with Vindicator + Widow Soldiers among other classes), there's no real reason to use the Predator.

Vanguards have very little use for pistols in general, so it's not surprising. If you can pistol, you should be Charging. Not much else to it.

Usually the Carnifex for its power, but I like the fast firing rate of the Predator.

Predator. Sure, Carnifex has a higher DPS - if you land every shot. On paper it is certainly the better weapon.

In practice, I prefer the Predator. In the Carnifex, there are 6 rounds in a clip - you miss one round, and your DPS drops by ~17%. Chances are, if you're shooting at max RPM (145 rpm), your accuracy is going to be a lot less than 5 for 6.

Fine, so you take time to aim and make sure none of your bullets miss - whoops, my DPS also plummets because instead of shooting 145 rounds per minute (0.4 seconds for every shot) I'm shooting at 90 rounds per minute (0.67 seconds for every shot - only 0.3 seconds more, reasonable for an aiming human), dropping the Carnifex's DPS by almost 40%.

EDIT: I found that the Carnifex is only the better weapon on paper. In practice, nobody reaches 145RPM and 100% accuracy with the Hand Cannon. I prefer the Predator because it shoots faster, I shoot more accurately with it and I can land more bullets with it and I have to reload less with it. I especially like it with cryo ammo. Two or three rounds, and the target is frozen.

As for armor stripping, yes, the Carnifex is better at stripping armor, but shotguns, assault rifles and sniper rifles are infinitely better at armor stripping than pistols are.

Hand Cannon when I fight armored targets (especially Krogan and Vorcha). Vindicator for organic targets and mechs. Tempest for fighting Geth (with Zaeed's squad disruptor ammo).  This is my Adept set up.  I don't use the Hand Cannon all that much when I play vanguard (I mostly use the Vindicator and the Scimitar).

Lesser of two evils. Predator.

On print, carnifex is the way to go, but its slower fire rate,, compared to predator make it less appealing to me.

Generally I use the handcannon, since I usually only use it against large, armored targets that are easy to hit, like Scions or Gunships. On my adept, popping a singularity on Harbinger or a Krogan sets them up for easy headshots, where some of the downsides don't hurt much.

Early on in the game, especially until Horizon, I stick with the Predator, since there are a lot of missions where armored enemies are common and the ammo efficiency and ease of aim helps more for times when you'll use the handcannon frequently. After Horizon, and especially once you've gotten to the Collector ship, I don't really need to use the Predator.

I take the Carnifex. However, I only use it in two situations:

1. When I have a stationary Armor target, like the end boss in the Overlord DLC, or the Core in the IFF mission.

2. When I have a Krogan closing in and I need something to put him down fast, but I don't have a Shotgun. (If I'm playing a Soldier, this point is moot. I use the Revenant for EVERYTHING. :D)

I actually prefer the predator over the carnifex for big armored enemies, especially when you get the damage critical upgrade. It has a faster rate of fire and more ammunition. I seem to take down those big guys like scions and the threasher maw faster with the predator.

If you have cryo ammo, the predator is also better at taking out husks when down to health. While every hit with the carnifex will freeze a husk, you can get the same effect with 1-2 shots with the predator and still be ahead on ammo.

Sentinel, Soldier, Infiltrator = Carnifex because popping out of cover is not so deadly and I can take the momemt to line up good shots.

Adept, Engineer = Predator because I like to pop in and out of cover quickly and fire off a lot of rounds.

Vanguard = Umm.... what's a pistol.

For some reason, the Predator kills my enemy in 3-4 shots on hardcore. I guess that accuracy and fire-rate becomes deadly on harder difficulties!

Predator for non-vanguard/soldier classes. Predator has a faster fire rate, more ammo, and its clip size is perfect for using the reload trick with most powers.

Carnifex for vanguards and soldiers as a backup weapon, and low ammo is not an issue with it's effectiveness at point-blank + its stun.

Infiltrator: Assassin Cloak allows me to dump 50%+ of my clip somewhat accurately with the hand cannon. (though the Widow out paces it and the Locust is a better general use backup)

Soldier: with so many weapon options the hand cannon wins for being bad ass, but predator allows more utility if you somehow run out of ALL OF YOUR AMMO.

Sentinel, Adept, and Engineer: Predator's ammo count is more appealing, but the Locust works as a jack of all trades leaving the ability to keep the hand cannon to strip heavy armor (YMIR Mechs, gunships, Thresher Maws). Without the Locust the predator pulls ahead for ammo count as a ranged weapon.

Vanguard: Hand Cannon rewards sniping the best any other scenario and he should be charging with the shotgun (or SMG if out of ammo)

everything tells me that the hand cannon should be better, but the feel of the predator... I just enjoy using it that much more.

Generally prefer the Predator on most classes. Higher power per shot means nothing if you run out of ammo.

Less time spent reloading too. Clip size seems a thing very much underestimated on these boards.

I currently ahve snipr rifle as my bonus weapon talent, so I generally only sue pistols when they're too close for that - close enough that Im hard pressed to miss without actually trying to. For that reason, I've found I prefer the Hand cannon at the moment. On some other builds, though, Ive prefre the Predator, particularly with Vindicator as my main gun, since it has a bad habit of running out of ammo.

Predator + Cryo Ammo (Infiltrator/Soldiers/Vanguards) will DEMOLISH Husk mobs by itself.

As an Adept, I prefer the Carnifex because of it's high-dmg per shot. Every time I pop out of cover and shoot leaves a big dent in the targets armor. The Predator's ammo count looks nice, but it needs more shots to make the same effect, and that means I take more hits.

On the other hand, I took the Vindicator as the extra weapon and it does the same thing but with a lot more ammo, so I rarely get a chance to fire the Carnifex now. Still wouldn't take the Predator however, the Carnifex is too nice to have as backup against armor.

Hand Cannon, absolutely.

When some enemy is crouching behind cover and the top of his head is sticking out, one round from a hand cannon will tear him up, especially if you're wearing the visor that improves headshot damage.

I'm a Carnifex sort, but mostly because I tend to think of thermal clips as containing a highly heat-conductive gel it loads into a reservoir in the weapon itself, and the fact the Carnifex is a 6-shot "hand cannon" always makes me think of a massive internal cylinder feed. Makes me feel like a gunslinger.

I don't actually use heavy pistol's becuase for me the other weapons seem to be better unless it's against loki mechs then it saves ammo.

The locust kind of killed heavy pistols, lack of weapon hotkeys buried them.

My vangard shot at the thresher maw with it.

I prefer to keep a Carnifex around for quickly murdering armor. Otherwise, I don't use pistols with my Adept.
