I usually prefer the high ammo count weapons. The Carny has good points though as it is quite effective at it's job of armor stripping from afar. You just better hit

It really depends on the class for me. On my current playthrough now (Sentinel) I've found the Predator much more useful do to my current lack of guns, so until I can get to weapon training, I'll be sticking with Predator for the more ammo.

How significantly does the DPS of the carnifex drop if you miss a shot? compare that to the drop in the DPS of the predator if you miss a shot. high rate of fire does have its uses.

Also have to factor in the heavy pistol critical upgrade. Sometimes a shot does double damage. The more shots you get off, the higher the chance for double damage from that shot. The carnifex is slower, thefore the chance of doing double damage is less.
