I have play 7,8,10,12 and out of the ones I played 12 was the best. Full of political intrigue and has an awesome storyline I play it atleast 2-3 times a year. The other Final Fantasy games are always save the world from the big bad and this one is the only one that is different. Civil War, back stabbing drama, Final Fantasy 12 has it all and it's movie like cinematics draw me in.
What is your favorite Final Fantasy game?

FFXIII = Greatest game I have ever played, so I choose that one.

VI, though if I would be allowed to cheat I'd nominate Mystic Quest/Seiken Densetsu/Final Fantasy Adventure. Now that was a handheld game!

I rank them as follows: 6=8>7>10>4>X-2>5>12>13>9
Never played the rest of them.

I would actually have to say 10 for its ending and gameplay balance. But 4 holds a special place in my heart.
So basically to emulate AKS
4-10-Tactics-7-12-6-5-X2-8-T:A-FF7:CC-CC-9
I have not played the first 3, 13, the Mana games (they do share a lineage with FF), the Saga games (also share a strange lineage) and many of the spinoffs.
I also like FF8 a whole lot and have played it almost as much as 4 even thought it is a terrible mess of a game with a stupid plot and stupid characters. But its kind of fun and you can do a lot. Its a glorious misstep IMO. What's nice about the FF games is that they all have either completely different battle systems or only slightly different, but in the way that they are different it makes for a huge change.
FF: Tactics would be my favorite but I quit because of the story, and I know what happens at the end so I don't think I'll ever be playing that again.

VI and IX are my two all-time favorites.

Final Fantasy died a long time ago, Square just enjoys beating a dead horse.
Seriously I have friends who got the last one when it came out and they said you could just let the game play itself. They brought the games back and actually demanded a refund.

Final Fantasy VI, I agree with the previous poster though Final Fantasy has died out a long time ago. The last decent title was Final Fantasy 10. FF11 doesn't apply because it's online but Final Fantasy VI had everything.
FF12 had to be the worst. I actually tried playing it but is was nothing like the Final Fantasy series. I didn't mind the new battle system but the focus of the series changed from story to, dungeon diving to put it kindly.
Final Fantasy 13 I don’t deserve to comment on it mainly because I haven’t played it but from the reviews and user reviews the series has been stripped of all its freedom and forces you to lose that sense of exploration you once had with the series. I gave FF12 a shot but I don’t think I could bear another bad game in this series. The old staff is gone; the remakes are now being done by an outsourced company that actually brings back the original staff.
It’s like the staff members who could never produce a successful Final Fantasy series on there own all of sudden took it over when the old team left. Yeah they were there well the series was the greatest but look what they have done.
After Awakenings though I feel its good, Gaiders direction with changing the system harmed the expansion. It’s still good but the same thing happening in Japan right now could happen here.
Breath of Fire, Xenosaga and the various other classic RPG series are now gone or owned and directed by different people who have completely changed or destroyed a once popular franchise.
I love the Final Fantasy Series but you can’t argue that most of the fan sites have dried up and you don’t see the insane momentum to create new Fan Final Fantasy sites anymore.
I miss the countless hours I spent playing the series and I miss the joy it brought. What once was is no more. Final Fantasy is just a shell with someone else inside controlling it now. I tried after the big change to give it a chance but I am tired. There comes a time were you have to walk away.

I love Final Fantasy VI because of the freedom. The main character in the end you don’t need her. Hell, for the majority of the game you are not forced to have certain characters. You choose your front man, you don’t need to have you’re gender confused emo hair cut as your lead (Gau or a bear Sabin) you made the choice who and who not to save.
The main villain did what no other main villain was able to do, win and destroy the world. The back story was deep and certain elements of the game affect everyone differently. Each character had there own story and back story to be resolved or in some cases they remained a mystery even after the game is all said and done. If any game needs to be remade in full 3d with added story its Final Fantasy VI.
I love these DS remakes they bring in the old staff but the old Final Fantasy games deserve to be remade on the consoles rather then the handhelds and far away from the current Final Fantasy Square Enix staff.
They already ruined and censored the Final Fantasy VI advance remake and there instances on Old English speak does not go well.
Let Matrix Software do it!

I second Final Fantasy Tactics if spin-offs count. Otherwise it has to be Final Fantasy VI. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy IV.

I'll go with VI and IX as the best.
I can't point a "worst" Final Fantasy, since i liked all of them, but i have to say that FF12 is the only one i played only twice, it don't have the same appeal as the others.

I would have to say FFVI is probably the best. Too bad my SNES version broke and I need to find another one (they are hard to find and expensive D:)
But I'll definitely rate FFX is the second best (but FFX-2 was terrible. It was just a fan-service game, made when Square joined with Enix). I actually liked XII, just that its gameplay was too flawed.
And I wasted 15 hours of my life with FFXIII. Nuff said.

Final Fantasy VI. No Contest, best FF game to date. Im really dissapointed at some of the newer FF games, way too much flash but not enough substance. Good example is FFXIII, really gorgeous cutscenes but it has really narrow gameworld and wayyy too much over-the-top emo stuff going on.
FFVI 3d remake would sell like pancakes.

Final Fantasy IX definitely, imo, I've played that game over and over, even quite recently. I haven't played many though including 7. I have tried VIII and X, which I didn't care much for so I discontinued playing. Played XII and finished, an average game but still enough to keep me playing.
