By FAR and away the best thing about playing the dark side on either game for me is turing your crew evil.

The Handmaiden was my personal favorite how she turns from miss goodie goodie to a goth looking hottie ready to kill ppl for you....luv it!

Some poeple were a pain to turn to the dark side....which made it all the sweeter in the end.

I hope the new SWTOR will allow you to do this....maybe turn your companions to the dark side....that would be fun...I just love to corrupt npcs lol.Posted Image

I love playing Dark Side and turning NPCs dark side is even more fun. The DS ending of KotOR1 is one of my favourite endings in any games I've played. I really like it :-)

oh and btw. it has been mentioned in interviews that in TOR you'll be able to influence your companions while the story progresses (and they in return would try to influence you). We don't know to what degree, but this sounds like turning your companions evil (or good) will be possible.

I find DS too easy to play. You can make the decisions so easily and get DS points so much more easily. I think the best way to play the game is just as a Grey Jedi. Just say and do what you would do if you actually were the PC.

Kotor's portrayal of evil  left me floored. Various decisions and temptations presented offer surprisingly large amount of food for thought. Average RPG's idea of evil usually means providing player an occasional "jerk" option in dialogue menu. The debth involved in some of Kotor's  temptations, decisions  and their consequences  leaves more or less every other RPG's take on good vs. evil in shame. If there had been a little more gray shades in Republic Vs. Sith setting, this would have been a true mind f..hump.

Just finished my first play through as dark lord of the Sith and really enjoyed/was horrified by some of the  stuff I got to do:D My most sadistic moment was surely forcing big Z to kill Mission, that poor lass!

I didn't know much of Kotor when I bought it some weeks back. I expected a very good game, and certainly got one.I never expected to experience a fully matured version of  Mass Effect. Hell, from POV of someone who isn't a massive Star Wars fan, this is easily most impressive Star Wars related fiction since Empire strikes back. Lucas can't write dialogue this good:p

Agreed.  I'm not into the Star Wars universe, but I loved the story and choices of KOTOR.  I only wish KOTOR included more options than the light side / dark side dichotomy.  On the playthrough I remember, I spent a good two hours completely ticked that I could not declare that both sides were wrong, I was doing this for my own reasons, and I don't owe either philosophy jack.<_<

More to the OP: I felt distinctly evil when I taking the droid back to the mistress who was really missing it.

KotOR did a lot better than many games in this respect, but I still felt as though the "good" and "evil" options were just certain doctrines you had to subscribe to - you couldn't be an evil rogue jedi or a chaotic but good-hearted one who had denounced the good order but still fought against evil etc. Quite often, you couldn't be evil without acting like an idiot. If I'm going to be an intelligent evil mastermind, I'm not going to run around insulting people just to get dark side points, or engage in petty crime for a few credit. On the outside, I might act really nicely, but secret covet total world domination or whatever... still, there were more options than in many other games, it just seemed like there could have been more shades of grey.

I generally play the good guy in BW games because I find it difficult to be a dick to characters that I like even if I go into the playthrough with the intention of being one. Now I'm a good bit behind the curve since the order I played their games was ME1-DAO-KotOR-ME2. I only played through it once on light side and loved it and wished I had experienced it back in its hay day. With that said I recently took the time to play through it again this time completely dark side and have to say that it was even better than light side, a first for me in BW games. The scene on top of the Rakatan temple where you get Bastila to swear alleigance to you and become your apprentice was one of the coolest moments I have ever seen in a video game.

I've always enjoyed being the hero. Being an ass kicking, force wielding, unstoppable force of light makes this one of my favorite games ever.

I always want to go the dark side when I start SW games but end up being on the Light side half the time and then is not worth making the change.

I can't really play Dark Side. At least not the whole way through. Most of it is just evil for the sake of it and I'm just a nice guy ;)

With that said, the DS powers are a lot cooler and more akin to my play style.

I'm a bit of a canon heretic: DS female Revan in the first game, LS male Exile in the second. And that's how I prefer to stick with it. Makes the storyline seem so much more intense.

I played the light side and it's not that boring. I usually find it hard to be an ass to characters you really get to know.

I totally agree.

Same here.

I didn't have any DS powers at all when fighting Malak so you can guess how that ended...

I agree that the DS powers fit my playing style. Force Maelstrom, Force Kill, etc. One of my favourite Light Side moments was saving the Undercity on Taris, giving them the clues to the paradise they werer searching for. Of course, that's an hour before the bombing so...

And Lleuen, I'm pretty sure the accepted canon is LS Male Revan, and LS Female Exile [the Exile is mentioned in several books as "she".]
