default Hawke's armor is simply epic, I hope all the other bits of clothing are on the same level

Yes... fur and heavy cloth in the desert, near volcanos actually...

EDIT

Not volcano, dragon breath.

The new darkspawn hurlocks make me think more of what a Ghoul should look like rather than a full fledged darkspawn. Ignoring the ridiculous S&M armor, the darkspawn are supposed to be blighted with nasty dark skin- not Chalkspawn zombies.

Can't say I like the art style. I'll wait for more polished, high-res screenshots before saying it completely sucks. They do need a lot of polish though.

And thanks for the sticky...

This should of NEVER been called DA2, it's not a true sequel, it's a total departure from all the things that made DAO the amazing game it is.

I have to agree, it's like making Mass Effect 3 JRPG artstyle.

Yeah I loved dragon age for what it was and I would hate it if that was what Mass Effect 3 became! And I don't really care for the new look of the darkspawn. What made the darkspawn so memorable to me from Origins was the fact that they looked completely new to me The first time I saw them at E3 I was like "Wtf!" They scared the sh*t outa me. Now... They look like zombies with swords and armor. And the trolls kinda look like hobo's who smell something rank. Just saying

I felt that DA:O was instantly recognizable as it was. The shift in art style will pale in comparison to play (in other words, I want a good game even if the art's changed to a different style). Some of the specials look intense in DA2 and that's a plus.  But the darkspawn look much worse IMHO--I thought the DS were awesome in DA:O (as were the trolls).  I'm glad to see at least the latter appear unchanged, but the DS look...well...bad.

Some of the vistas in ME2 were jaw-droppingly spectacular (think skyscraper scene), so attention to scenic vistas is always a plus. But I agree with another poster that there were plenty of pretty cool vistas in DA:O, and game mechanics are something I'd like to be hearing a lot more about.

Once they make the graphics better, I am sure this game will look great!

You don't understand... they changed the artistic feel of the game. It seems familiar, but it looks nothing like DAO. You don't have to change the art style in order to improve the visuals.

This is what really concerns me, everything else will be revealed in time, but the new art direction was really the first thing the fans saw, it's basically officially confirmed.

Ah, why am I bothering with this stuff, it's not going to change anyways... Best move on!

I promise you though: no pre-order on this one!

Even if I miss a limited or collector's edition...

EDIT

I'm probably gonna break my promise... I'm such a hypocrite.

Lots of games change art style. Look at Halo 3. Just because they change the art style doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game. It will still have the feel of DA with the choices having consequences. However, you are right in a way, they didn't have to change the art style to improve graphics but I thought that some of the character faces in DA could have looked better. Compare it to Mass Effect and Mass Effect has more realistic faces.

They really need to put out better screenshots, or keep quiet about the art until better screenshots are ready. Right now I don't see what they are talking about at all when it comes to influences.

What about blood? Will they carry into scenes? Cause that was pretty annoying too.

I agree with that...I'd need to see some more pictures before I can make up my mind about the new art style.

I like the art style and everything, but....

I think actually right now, games are in this kind of baroque phase, where everything has to be realistic and super-encrusted in detail. That was also another factor in the decision, trying to put the art in a place where it looked different from other things out there.

Why, then, is this the same line I've been reading from most developers over the past six years? Where is this baroque phase I'm missing? Because I've felt like 'stylization' has been the buzzword of all buzzwords ever since World of WarCraft donned its crown, with precious little reprieve in titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

It gets more surreal every time I read of one of the few remaining non-cartoonized developers joining the crowd to be different.

Again, I like the style in this case, but that quote just hits me as so odd....

I hope the 'comic' art style is EXTREMELY subtle.... because I have completely avoided other games (Crackdown 2 and Borderlands, even in spite of hearing they're good) due to them having the 'comic' graphics style. I just personally REALLY don't like it at all. Based purely off of DA:O, I will be getting DA2. If the art style is noticeably comic-like, I won't be very happy; and if not for DA:O, I wouldn't even consider it.

Bad art design + Stylized look doesn't = Good Art Design
