I must admit, it's seems a little cartoonish. Kind of reminds me of dungeon siege concept.

The part about "epic terrain" especially when combined with work on the lighting is interesting because yes, the DAO scenes feel pretty confined... but then in the screenshots it seems they're overdoing the aerial perspective by a lot and/or throw really thick fog over everything which messes up the intended effect. I mean, comparing this:

Image IPB

and

Image IPB

there's pretty obvious differences in tone. The other landscape screenshot posted elsewhere had similar issue.

Its over the top- what I liked about Origins was that the world felt grounded and visually plausible most of the time. This stuff we've seen so far is style over substance, which seems to go against what Origins was trying to establish in creating a Dark Heroic Fantasy. It just gives off that stylized Jade Empire feel, which was ok for JE but I'm not feeling it in DA.

As for the landscapes, I agree with tmp7704- the fog obscuring distant landscapes was a problem in Origins and nothing from the screens makes it seem any different. I like what Goldman is saying about the lighting and landscapes and the landscapes in the concept art look nice. But I'm not seeing any of that in the screens.

I am disappointed that there was not a concept art of Lady Hawke shown yet. Not asking for screen shots, just concept art. And if they do, I am wondering how they will implement that pointy chest piece into her armor?

What was that I read about making the elves of Dragon Age more like plains Indians?

I hope the 'comic' art style is EXTREMELY subtle.... because I have completely avoided other games (Crackdown 2 and Borderlands, even in spite of hearing they're good) due to them having the 'comic' graphics style. I just personally REALLY don't like it at all. Based purely off of DA:O, I will be getting DA2. If the art style is noticeably comic-like, I won't be very happy; and if not for DA:O, I wouldn't even consider it.

Borderlands is fine looking like a comic because it was supposed to be funny, but DA2 shouldn't look like that because i thought it was supposed to be a dark and realistic game

[b]On realism:

The combat is really over the top. It looks crazy,
but when you’re actually playing it’s very satisfying to do the
whirlwind and see all those legs standing there that don’t know they’re
dead yet.

Finally someone who understands why i play Dragon Age. I wanna see chopped of legs everywhere wondering why they're dead. Hopefully mom will buy it for me as i am not old enough yet.

I wish Dragon Age 2 could look as good as Gears of War 3, Halo: Reach, or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! It should be up there with the best of the best

"That was also another factor in the decision, trying to put the art in a place where it looked different from other things out there. Basically, we have this epic game. Origins is very large. There’s no way you could make a game that huge that is as baroquely and finely detailed as Gears of War, say."

I took this as meaning it is going to be signifigantly smaller than DA:O or am I reading this wrong.

eh....this article leaves me feeling ambiguous and a bit disheartened

I took it to mean that because DA is such a big game, it's not possible to have graphics as detailed at Gears of War. Not that they are dumbing down DA.

From the sceenshots it looks like this game is from 2001. Hope the rough graphics is just due to early development.

bioware should have left it as DA:O, but i dont care ill buy DA2 regardless if it's good or bad

but personaly i think bioware will loose all of it's fans. because everyone will start commiting suicide for bioware changing a perfectly good game to much.
the reason i became a fan of bioware is because of DA:O not ninja assassin

$20 says that DA2 will get an average of 7.5 review
figuritive speech of course

this game looks like it's taking place in the middle of red dead redemption, so chances are we might see cowboy's.

it sort of reminds me of the borderlands graphics in some parts.... thats not good for a game like this the setting is supposed to be dark, dangerous, and bloody not happy happy fun time go. they're really starting to mess stuff up for the fans of DA:O. i read the gameinformer and laidlaw said that they werent going to be taking out the stuff that the fans liked. he also said that that is where all of the other companies screw up and bioware wasnt going to make that mistake. HA it looks like that was a lie too. THANKS A LOT BIOWARE!!!!! i hop the graphics get MUCH better.

I love DA:O and my main reason for buying Bioware games has always been, and will always be, story and interesting characters.

But, the more I see of the change in art direction the more I feel ... offput.

I might just be me, but the graphics really don't look THAT different to me. They don't even look bad in any sense of the word imo, in fact, I think they look pretty good. And I'm not really seeing anything relatively "cartoon-ish" in the actual graphics. The concept art, yeah, I can see it, but not actually in the graphics we've seen. Graphics don't really matter to me anyways. As long as they run properly and the body models are slightly improved I'll be happy.

Hawke: hey is that a building of some sort?

villager: no i think its just a rock.

Hawke: oh... its hard to tell everything looks so... boring. how do you live with it?

villager: i practice gunslingging at those there zombie things and then i use my super ninja kick to take out that big ogre thing that has an in shape body that doesnt really look in shape.

Hawke: huh, i thought that thing was 2-dimentional... guess not. oh well.

Eh, I am not a big fan of these current screen-shots. I really just want the same DA:O look, but improved and with people looking a bit more normal.
