Eh, I am not a big fan of these current screen-shots. I really just want the same DA:O look, but improved and with people looking a bit more normal.

that was something i loved about Origins if you only saw someone playing it you'd be like "cool elves and mages" but then youd actually play it and you'd be like "Elves? ...and mages ... damn this is deceptively dark" and that is a very good thing

Dragon Age should not look Samaurai, I wonder if thats why Flemeth looks so ridiculous.
But the good thing about it is at least we know the armors and mage outfits are all going to look bad azz now. And the combat,,,,, Will Warriors finally not suck now if we're going with a samaurai theme... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This sums my thoughts about new artsyle.JoePinasi1989 wrote...
I really don't think it's too early to say "the ART direction SUCKS" since we can make a pretty acceptable comparison between one of the most important elements of Dragon Age - darkspawn!
I apologize for the rather sad quality, you should brighten your monitor to see the comparison more clearly.
Please click right mouse button and "View Image" for the next one.
What say you, hmm? Darkspawn or zombie?
I believe that mod, that changes look of ds and some NPC's to be in line with old appearance, will be ready in a week or two after DA2 release.
Also, Hawke with all those spikes and openings in his armour looks silly. Comix like, ewww.

I totally love Hawke's concept art
Me too! Hopefully there will be lots and lots conceptart to come.
Hmm... the article got me intrigued. I'm really looking forward to see screenshots of the finished product, because the idea behind the new artstyle sounds very interesting. Looking forward to more screenshots and art!

this game looks like it's taking place in the middle of red dead redemption, so chances are we might see cowboy's.
Very true. I'm a little less enthused about DA2 after seeing these screenshots. Hopefully, as someone said before, the graphics are a bit rough because it's so early.

I'm still apprehensive to say anything at this point. But yes, I probably wouldve been satisfied with them building upon what they already had...
Somebody did post something on Guild Wars 2 though. What I think is equally important is how smoothly the gameplay mechanics (animations, interactions) all run together. Consider that this isn't just art - but moving art.
Also as a lot of people have already pointed out, i don't think these screenshots are the final build. I suggest to obide time until the 17/8 trailer release...
Thanks out to Noobius_Maximo for posting the interview though!

You know what, almost everybody criticized DAO for having generic art style, and now everyone in this forum wants that generic art style to carry to DA2. What the hell is wrong with you ppl. Art style change was expected and required.
I do not know who "almost everybody" is but I never once spoke against DA:O graphics or art style. As a matter of fact, that was one of the reasons I bought the game, because I loved the look and will continue to defend it.
"What the hell is wrong with you ppl." - Well, I cannot speak for everyone, when I look at these screens, the only thing that comes to mind is He-man vs. Skeletor cartoon from the 80's that my sons used to watch. Matter of fact, when I showed them to my son, those were the first words out of his mouth.
Take a look at that darkspawn on the top screen a few posts up. That gave me chills the first time I saw it. While the new art style might have been required, that much of a change sure wasn't expected. Those darkspawn are unrecognizable as such, if you played Origins. And don't get me started on the spikey armor and that Ogre-bra.

I agree, everyone said it copied LOTR.
I'm not against changing to a new art style, they should of kept some consistensies though. I hope they didn't redesign everything.
I'm not a fan of how different Flemeth looks in DA 2 compared to DA:O, and the darkspawn look completely different too. They could of kept some simillarites.

personally i think that all that changes in dialogues, fighting system, and all other simplification of every aspect of game, just because of console market and limitations of console pads or something like that.
absolutly no preorder da2 for me so far

This 100%
Origins looked amazing and had/has a very distinct style of it's own. Anyone who thinks it looks like LOTRO needs to get glasses or actually "play" LOTRO ....or both.
This "new & improved" style and look is pure garbage compared to what we had before.
This game should of never been called DA2, it should be it's own little independent game set in the DA IP Universe.
They "should" of then be prepping a TRUE Sequel to Origins, keeping the same look and feel of the original and tweaking and updating as needed...NOT tossing out everything that sold their game and won fans over to begin with!

I really think that Bioware should not refer to this game as Dragon Age II, however. I mean it's not really a sequel to the first game so i'm hoping they clarify it and kinda like the first game was Dragon Age: Origins just call this Dragon Age: The Champion of Kirkwall or something like that so that there's less complaining about how it's not a true sequel.

About being over the top, well someone posted a image from Berserk in page 1. It´s really over the top, and if it keeps geting darker and more depressing: Art style is as realistic as mangas go, though.
I REALLY hope they don´t go ME2 with the armors, with characters going in combat with so bad protection. You can have a badass armor which doesn´t look something no one with a brain would wear into battle. The female cleavage light armors from Origins where bad enough.

I didn't take the part about being inspired by Samurai/Western movies so literally. Like I said, though, I don't feel like I've seen enough screenshots to have any opinion at this point.

im not sure if i am into the new look... I loved the Dragon Age: Origins "lord of the rings" look. That was probably one of the reasons why i picked up a copy of the game. But now... the main character is chosen for you?
Only in the sense that it's like having only one origin rather than six to choose from. You're still supposed to able to define Hawke's personality.
