Been following the earlier coverage on Dragon Age 2 and things are looking pretty interesting! Can anyone comment on the general length of DA2? I know that, depending on the player, an estimate of the number of hours could greatly vary. However, can we an expect an experience, or the amount of content, to be relatively on par with Origins? Less? More? (Hopefully, more..... not that I'm greedy or anything.:P)

Thanks!

I've been hearing that it's longer, but I don't really know. Somewhere (an article of some kind) said it was three times longer but I find that hard to believe. Who knows?

I think they misunderstood the length of the game's timeline--10 years--with the length of the game.

DA:O was in development for more than 5 years, DA 2 will be out in less than a year, plus we have a voiced character now, so I can't see how Hawke is going to have so many lines for let's say a 100+ hours game. My guess is that DA 2 will be much shorter than DAO.

I'm not an oracle or something, just using my logic, which may be wrong in this. Let's hope a dev is gonna reply to this, but I don't think that we'll ever get an official answer about it. The same question existed for Awakening before its release and guess what.

Well the expansion pack fell into that category.

I'd say its fair to say itll be around the same length as DA. Anything less than 40 hours, to me, would be a failure though. My origin playthroughs, including all the times I reloaded, listening to everything, exploring and whatnot...were around 65 hours.

Ah, that make sense.
I think a realistic guess would be about the same length as DA:O. But as andar said, who knows.

My guess would be they'll be aiming for the same length.

The length for DAO wasn't too bad. Just that we spent much of them at boring places such as Circle of Magi, Brecilian Forest, and Alienage!!!

Well, since they are developing the game in a shorter amount of time than for Origins, I fear that DA2 will be shorter.

I hope that it will be at least as long as DAO, though.

Given that it has the voiced PC, it will no doubt be shorter than Origins. Origins took me about 80 hours to complete my 1st time through. I'm only expecting about 30-40 hours for DA2- something similar to ME2 most likely...

DAO took 5+ years but,

- Bio didn't have the funding they have now (EA).
- They were also putting effort into transitioning their engine to "next gen", which they don't need to do now.
- VO for Hawke is not that greater an effort.

Taking these in mind, I'd expect DA2 to be shorter than DAO but not much shorter.

Not to mention the transition to EA must have loosened some screws.

I've never made a DAO playthrough that clocked out under 40 hours, TBH, I wouldn't mind if DA2 was a -little- shorter, so long as it has as many great moments into it. Pointless sidequests and random encounters are pointless.

But they're not having to build an engine, and they already know how to use the tools. Also, does anyone seriously think that it's going to come out in March? There's no way this isn't getting delayed.

1. Given the "fixed character" setup and price they are likely to charge, it better damn well be as long as DAO.

2. I predict it will be out on time (or at least close to it).

This is about what I'm expecting: that it'll be around ME2's length, which I think was around 25-30 hours for me. But DAO only took me about 46 hours to finish my first playthrough with maybe half to 3/4 the side quests done.
