My first playthrough of DAO was over 200 hours. :)

...But that was only because I never wanted it to end, I wanted to get the most out of it as I could. My first playthrough is always my longest however, and so I doubt my other DAO characters will take up anywhere near as many hours as Elysia did.

Bull****.

There's nothing "bull****" about it. Think about it, what would I gain from bragging/lying that I have played the game for that long? It's not like it's a great achievement or anything. I played well over 200 hours (although I spread it out over a long period of time). In fact, I just re-checked my save at the end of the game (post-coronation) and my time up to that point was exactly 346:39:03. How do you like them apples? :P

I'd put pictures up of it if I could but I have no clue how to do so on a Vista... or any other computer for that matter. I could take a photo of it with my camera I suppose, but then I'm not entirely sure how I'd upload it to the comp. . Yeah, I'm hopeless with technology. :/

I cannot comprehend how you managed that, other than by leaving your computer on for lengthy periods of times without doing anything. It's just...there just isn't that much content in the game. I'm boggled.

There's the fast people that finished the game under 10 hours .. and the very very very very slow people lol

idk. I guess it's a combination of walking through every area (I rarely ever ran), talking to every NPC, exploring every area to it's fullest extent (and often in the better looking areas simply standing still and admiring the scenery while rotating the camera around) and fooling around with the tactics a lot. I don't know how I managed it really, lol. However there was one night when I left the game on by accident.. Oops. :X

Anyway, to get back on topic. I do hope that DA2 proves to be as long as DAO at least, though I'd prefer it to be longer. Mass Effect 2 was far too short for my tastes.

ROFL, loved DA:O but you can keep saying its a 60 hour game, it will be as untrue this time as the last time you said it.

Do you need physical evidence of how long it took me to beat the game or something? The way I play, it took me 60 hours to beat the game the first time. I have gotten much faster now, but I can't possily comprehend how you can call me a liar about something you don't  know.

Average time playing when game released was 35 hours (but with excellent replayability)

Okay, good for the average person who played the game (that isn't even as useful as a median play-time, which might account for silly long or shot playtimes that do not complete the game).

Based on recent Bioware lenght of products, DA2 will be 30 hours and lack the replayability DA:O had.
If you look at Awakening and the DLC, Bioware is pricing its stuff at around $2.50-$3.00 for every hour of content!

Or, you can potentially comprehend that not all people play at the same rate, and the average is informative only of a hypothetical average person, who may or may not exist.

Even if you wanted to make that claim, and your data was entirely right and infallible, all you could say was that Bioware prices the average game who completes the game at an average rate of $2.5-$3/hr. But playtime is varaible.

For me, as a consumer, it doesn't matter how long it takes an average person to complete a game. I know I take longer. I can approximate the content and price for me. I am buying the game for me. So yes, some average gamer might pay 2.5 for content, but this particular gamer would pay less.

Also, your numbers don't make sense. If you pay $2.5/hr and play 35 hours, the cost of the game should come out to $87.50. If the cost $3 then the game should have cost $105.

I don't know where you're buying games, but you're getting cheated.

ETA:

Awakening is priced at about $40. If we take your rate, it should have between 13hrs to 16hrs of gameplay. That does not seem accurate either, but given these average pricings you are producing...

I don't think it's BS, there are loads of contents and sidequests specially in DAO, I'm still playing my 2nd playthrough and about 130 hours now, though I'm in the final stage now and still trying to get the most out of it. There are little things that really adds up to your long-playing say like reading codex and research how to create bombs, potions etc, watching the cutscenes, stuff like that. And by the way I thought the level cap is only about 20 I read somewhere, but I'm already 22 that kinda boggles me maybe it has something to do with the Awakening installed.

And oh, about the main topic, I think DA2 will be pretty much around the same length, if not maybe less. Posted Image

it is sad to see that for a sequel that sould be great insted evryone is compromize that even 30 hours will be ok??its very sad to see that !! becuse the fact that it dont have origins, and you play only 1 race the game sould be even longer than dao.. if it will be shorter than DAO it will be a failure as a sequel..but well with all the changes i dont have any expectation for this game at all...

I think there's invariably going to be a lot of variation in DA:O play time. My first run took me over one hundred hours (with Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar) whereas on my second I didn't do that many side quests and it around fifty. Third and fourth runs were almost exactly seventy hours each.

I actually think DAII could stand to be a bit shorter than the original - I find the endgame of DAO drags slightly. If I get between forty and fifty hours out of it I'll consider myself satisfied.

Well, I would rather point you to the famed Baldur's Gate seriers and how it came to be:

-Baldur's Gate I

Release Date: Nov 30, 1998 (US)

- Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast

Release Date: Apr 30, 1999 (US)

- Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Release Date: Sep 24, 2000 (US)

- Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal

Release Date: Jun 21, 2001 (US)

As you can see, it took about half an year to publish the expansion and less than two years to publish the sequel, which, I dare say had from three to five times the content and game length that had the first game. It took two years, while at the same time developing an expasion, to produce a game that built on the previously developed Infinity engine and the coded D&D rules. The expansion to the sequel took 9 months.

Let us take a look at the Dragon Age franchise:

- Dragon Age: Origins

Release Date: Nov 5, 2009

- Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

Release Date: Mar 18, 2010

- Dragon Age II

Release Date: Q1 2011 (US)

As you can see, it took a little more than 5 months to churn out the expansion and the sequel is scheduled for after an year and a half after the original game. Dragon Age was delayed though, and was scheduled to arrive at the end of 2008, beginning of 2009. Thus, it can be safely assumed that due to extra beta testing, the sequel will need less time to develop the technical side and more time to work on content, which I might add, was just what happened to the Baldur's Gate series.

The development cycle for Bioware in particular has no bearing on the quality of their end product. I would also like to direct your attention to Fallout I and Fallout II, developed by Black Isle, which also had a very fast turnover rate and while Fallout II had some content cut out and bugs, it was truly a great sequel with twice the content it had its predecessor.

In any case, if I'd have to guess I too would say the length will be closer to ME2 than to DAO - a respectable (albeit not nearly as impressive as DAO) 40 hours or so. Although one can always hope...

I would prefer it to be longer, but only if the length is justified. There's no point trying to drag the story out any longer than it needs to be.

Would hope for a similar length as in DA:O, which took up around 70 hours reading up on all the codex entries, constantly talking to all companions, NPCs, etc.

If shorter, I would hope for a lot more codex entries and other lore to discover.

It will be fifty percent shorter.

According to BioWare, that is.

All signs point to DA2 being significantly shorter than DAO, both in terms of actual game time and replayability.

at the least i hope it will be similar to DA:O 60-80 hrs.
i would prefer DA2 to be longer than Origins, but only if it is justified and not just to drag out  the story
my first playthrough took 100+ hours
i would be disappointed if it would be much less than DA:O

IT WILL BE A 10 HOUR CAMPAIGN WITH NO DIALOGUE ONLY SWORDS AND SEX SCENES

RUINED FOREVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR

Jokes aside, it will be as long as an RPG story needs to be. That is, "long". I mean, the story spans 10 years. I'm hoping for a 70-hrs average campaign like DA:O

It's going to be shorter then Bg2 was.

Probably even shorter then DA:O is.

Well they said they had at least 2 years worth of future content for DA before it was released.

We have not seen anywhere near that content so far. Maybe DA2 is has a lot of those ideas in it.

I don't think that DA2 will be that different to DA2 in the games engine or feel of it.

And we don't know how long they have been working on it.

I bet with a 10 timeline it will be at least as long as DA:O.

Im overall quiet fast completing everything i could find first time took about 35-40hours give or take.

Overall i think it will be shorter (or just a illusion due to the "talk" they have added.

>>The bulk of people post the 30-35 hour range (except for JE which was insanely shorter) and then year after the fact we start hearing about 60, 61, 200 hours. <<

I don't know who you were talking to, but I was on these forums right after release and the average play time I was hearing was 60 hours. It took me about 70 hours to get through the game the first time and then probably half that every subsequent playthrough.

But I am guessing it will be closer to ME2, which means 25-30 hours ... a real drop from the original, but maybe something I could tolerate - especially if it had better replay potential. (aside from going through each of the Origins DA:O had horrible replay value)

I actually got the impression you'd have better replayability, as each of your choices would effect how your history unraveled and send you in a somewhat different direction.  I expect it to at least provide encouragement to play it through twice - which was very difficult for me to justify with DA:O.
