Hi, ive been playing Mass Effect for a few days now, up to 6hrs. Im a little over whelmed with all the options and upgrades (last shooter i played was the original CS).
Im at the Thorian Stage. The green chicks that the Thorian spews out are too strong and good for me. They disable my shield, freeze me and my team and kill us all in about 10secs.
Ive tried upgrading all of our weapons and armor as much as i can/know how to. Also, ive tried using the special moves (Right Bumper moves), but i just cant get past these green chicks. I think ive died over 30 times now.

What strategy should i use?
Im standard Shepard, i have been leveling up my assault, pistol and sniper skills. Team is Wrex and Ali.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Up until this point ive just been hiding behind boxes and sniping the enemies, but now the new enemies can move it has become a lot harder!

Well there are two types of missions, main story and side missions. Personally I like to do some side missions before starting the main story missions, for levels and gear. Also you really should be choosing one main weapon to concentrate on early, then armor and Assault spec to open up the line for Immunity(which rules all with soldiers). So for leveling I would start with a least a couple of points into soldier class for regen and hp, then drop pts into Assault rifle, and maybe a few into sniper. Once I had decent Assault then Armor to get Heavy then try to get Immunity, with Immunity maybe even more important than Armor for Soldier. Also shotguns work well in this area especially with poison or knockback shells(added force shells).

Now on to strategy, well, learn to lead with your toughest crew which is probably Wrex and learn to use throw to knock them down or better yet throw them off the cliff for instakill. You may have to start over( I know hate the idea) but you may need to call this one a practice run and restart. Also did you explore the Citadel and do all the missions you find there?? You can gain valuable levels if you explore carefully. You may also want to pack along Kaiden instead of Ali, for the extra biotics and tech, one of which prevents the use of talents in enemies.

what level are you?

what i would do is have everybody use shotguns for that stage, and try to kill her with those. use biotics on her so she falls and cant use her biotics, try dodging her biotics so you stay up, try positioning your squadmates at a doorway and draw them in, and try to save when you can (when there isnt enimies around)

i would say that would be a really hard part of the game, so good luck!

p.s. if all else fails, can you load into the normandy and do side missions and maybe do the missions again?

How do you have your companions leveled? Tali has a power called damping that will reset the cooldown on enemy biotic and tech powers. The biotics are what the asari clones are using on you to lock you in stasis. So pop the clone with that it will shut down their biotics for several seconds and give you time to kill them.

You could try lowering the difficulty if you're not trying for the hard core or insanity acheivement, and not already playing on casual.

There are to many adversaries on that level to successfully "snipe" them all, no matter how powerful the sniper gun is unless on easy difficulty. (Although I'd love to snipe them to my hearts' content too).

I advise a high level damage assault rifle: The HMWA Spectre class A.R. gun (Available via C-Sec requisitions officer) is a good option.

Using "Frictionless Materials X" & "Snowblind Rounds X" are also good upgrades that will give near endless fire with little heat build up.

If you have any grenades left, the gas mod that you get from, Juliana will kill creepers outright.

Wow, thanks for the replies!

I wasnt really aware i was plowing through the main story when i chose to fly to this planet. But im stuck with it now, i cant backtrack, the road is black. Yeah i realize i may have to start again. Ive tried to do all the side missions like spying on the keepers etc, but jumping straight onto this planet was definitely a mistake!

Im lvl 14.

I cant find any "Biotics" or "Tech powers", and i dont have "Frictionless Materials" or "Snowblind" etc. All i have is Armour piercing, poison resistance etc..

With RightBumper button, i tried using Wrex's "throw" on the green chick, but he just stood there and died? was that a "Power"? am i doing it wrong?

Ok, ill have a few more goes, with shot guns and try damping and what you guys have said! thanks!

One more thing, the blue bars next to the main health bar, what are they? how do i get more? i only have 1 but my wrex and ali have a 3 or 4.

I'm not trying to be rude here but are you sure your playing the right game for you? It sounds like your not paying much attention to any of the background information of the universe, haven't really followed any of the tutorial boxes on Eden Prime or anything, most of what your asking is explained in game. The blue bars are your Shields, you get more by changing your armour for better ones or if you have the skill put points into your electronics skill. I'd have to reccomend starting over and paying a little more attention to things and finally you keep refering to someone called Ali, her name is Tali. Again not trying to be rude or anything, just seems like you expected a straight shooter when it's more of a rpg heavy TPS.

Companions that should be in your party.....

1) Tali---tech specialist, with pistols and shotguns for weapons.

2) Garrus--Hybrid tech combat specialist with Sniper rifles and Assault rifles for weapons.

3) Wrex-- Hybrid biotic combat specialist with assault rifles and shotguns for weapons.

4) Kaiden--Hybrid tech biotic specialist with no real weapon specialist but does get some pistol bonus from class skill.

5) Ashley--Pure soldier combat specialist, with all weapons available.

For this area Wrex and a tech specialist are ok, with you being soldier. You may want to try Kaiden for his extra biotics.

Yes Throw is a power, it is a biotic(mental) push of force doing some damage and knocking people back. You will also get lift, which does exactly that, lifts people and objects up. Singularity with is a swirling vortex that lifts people up and whirls them around(can be cast on ceiling in areas for great effect) . Stasis is also just that, putting someone on hold so they can't move or be hurt(one exception for biotic Shepard upgrade). Warp does some damage but more importantly it lowers defenses so enemies take more damage.

Your armor should have three main stats, damage protection, shields, and tech/biotic protection. The better the numbers the more protection you get, so an armor with high shields means you get more blue bars but if it has lower damage protection you will take more damage once your shields drop. And the tech/biotic defense means how much resistance you have to attacks like the green girls holding you or knocking you down. You also have upgrades to put in the armor that can modify each of these stats. You need to really look through your equipment and see what is offered and maybe try out different ideas. I personally like running medical interfaces on my characters so I really don't have to worry about health packs because my guys heal in a fairly short time out of combat. For a soldier you want to look into things that increase damage protection and lower poison times/damage with hinder/stop health regin.

This can be a fairly complicated game to initially learn, but once you understand it, it can become very easy and fun to play.

you can always walk backwards and run away durring that part with all those swarming thorean creepers puking on you. main thing here is to keep the asari clones crowd controlled. youll need biotics so best thing to do is turn off companion ability usage and use wrexs throw to put that asari **** on her ass. also you have to shoot those limbs of the thorean too if you were unaware of that. the right bumper should realy be your best friend in this game. youve got abilities so us them, hopefully youve invested in immunity for your solider.

if your unsure how to upgrade and level things you need to hit the start button and scroll through your options. it takes a bit to figure it all out bit its worth it and its actually a pretty adictive part of ME1 they left out of ME2.

good luck!

Ok some gameplay basics,

1. the blue bar is your shields.  The basic amount you have will be determined by what kind of armor you're wearing.  There are certain armor mods that will give more points, and tech using classes (engineer, infiltrator and sentinel) can get more points through electronics skill and better omnitools.

2. The tech powers are decryption, electronics, damping, hacking, and medicine.  These give the sabotage, overload, damping, ai hacking and neural shock abilities.  The decryption and electronics also let you open locked objects.  Most are decryption but a few are electronics.  Tali, Garrus, and Kaiden all have at least some of these skills.  The different difficulty locks will match the various levels of decryption/electronics.  1 point will open basic locks, 5 will open medium and 9 will open hard.

3. Biotic skills are throw, lift, warp, singularity, stasis and barrier.  These provide abilities with the same name.  For the most part these are crowd control.   They have the effect of disabling enemies in the case of throw, lift, singularity and stasis.  Warp reduces enemy defenses.  Barrier provides the user with an additional bunch of shielding.  These can be resisted.

4. Judging from your earlier posts you've probably got at least your companions set to auto level.  I'd go into the options and disable that.  You'll then have to level them up manually in the squad screen but, I think you'll get better results that way once you have a better understanding of the basics.

Here are a couple of wiki links to provide some help

Take the level slowly, very slowly. Look around carefully and you will see there are a few funnel points you can use to stop yourself from being overwhelmed too quickly.

Dont try and destroy the neural nodes in one attempt. Hit it a few times, deal with the creepers it awakens, hit a few more times, deal with more creepers and so on.

Ledges + throw are your friends. Asari clone thrown off a ledge means instadeath for her.

If you still have the gas grenades left, use them to deal with the swarming mobs.

actually if you take out those nodes most if not all the creepers in the area will die. my strategy with doesnt really differ much for me, revolves around singularity. throw a singularity on the floor and take out the nodes. use your biotics offensivly. thats something that took me awhile to apreciate. you can become a wrecking ball if you use biotics to your advantage instead of a last ditch effort at stopping a charging krogan. again, the right bumper is your best friend.
